Unrushed

Recently I wrote about constantly feeling rushed. Today I’m doing something about it — in the form of taking another day off from work. My initial plan was to get up early and go out for a long bicycle ride, however I’m taking my “unrushing” (not a word) strictly and am relaxing this morning. Today I will go out and eat pancakes, I might read, I might clean, I will do some coding for work (I know, I’m supposed to be taking a day off but I need to get some coding done). Or not.

Today’s Personal Project
Put the new license plate onto the Jackmobile.

Today’s Daily Challenge
Take a walk and take a closer look at the trees.

Spending time with trees means you’re getting up and out, and walking is a great way to improve heart health, strengthen muscles, and lower your risk of certain diseases. And studying trees’ many interesting features may motivate you to walk farther! Even though we see trees every day, we may take them for granted and not notice them. But they are an important part of our environment and can enrich your walk. They can also help to make you more mindful of your surroundings and help connect you to nature.

Very applicable for my current lifestyle, though ironically appearing on the day I’ve decided not to go to work — where I do most of my walking.

Tomorrow’s Daily Challenge
Spend 10 minutes looking at your books, and set the ones you no longer want aside for donation.

Owning fewer things makes cleaning house much easier, and a cleaner house is a healthier house. If your bookcases have some open space to display a few treasured photographs or objects, they are easier to dust off and more pleasurable to look at. And passing on books that you have read (and will likely never read again) gives them new life in the hands of another reader.

Wow, talk about applicable…

Rain Rain Please Stay Away
Last night’s weather took an amazing turn for the better. I was unprepared for this and went to Chuy’s with coworkers and then promptly zonked out as soon as I returned home.

I’m hoping for a similar reprieve from the rain today as I will be joining ITP-Reader Betsy at the Neko Case concert at Atlanta Botanical Garden. The concert is “rain or shine with no compensation in the event the concert is canceled due to extreme weather” (why do I agree to participate in these events in which I can get screwed so badly?) so I’m hoping for some decent weather. [I’m trying to ignore the huge green/yellow/red splotch which is slowly moving southeast from Tennessee currently.]

ITP Flickr Pic
Because of the way billing cycles run July is traditionally a very expensive month for me. One of the recurring bills I’ve been paying for the past handful of years is my Flickr “Pro Account” membership.
I've Been Here A While
In year’s past (actually including this year) I’ve hemmed and hawed over canceling my Flickr account, but hell, for $25/year it still seems like a good “investment.”

On Preparing For Forty-Seven
My birthday is coming this Sunday. (I know, I know, you are probably as tired of hearing about this as I am of hearing about the goddamn upcoming Olympic Games).

I can’t say that my life is not how I expected it to be as I become forty-seven years old, because I’ve never really thought about getting here. If I had to have guessed about my life during this segment of the human cycle I would have assumed that I’d be married (or divorced) and would have never hoped to endure the extreme companionship dry spells that I’ve encountered.

All things considered I’m okay with my current lot in life. I’m doing alright financially, my (current) biggest health concern is dropping at least twenty pounds (mostly for my vanity), and while the ITP Estate and the Jackmobile have been all-to-frequent nags they’ve served me as I should have expected.

Allan get rid of some books….. that is an idea he’d never agree with.

  2. Martha says:

Books are really hard for me to part with, but I haven’t had much choice. We just don’t have the room.

I still have my Pro Flickr account as well, don’t remember the last time I used it. But what’s $25/year?

Well I was able to get an appointment yesterday to see the PA at Highland Urgent Care. All and all a pretty good experience. The appointment was at 2pm and I was back in my car, prescription in hand, heading home by 2:20. I need to go back in 10 days but she is pretty confident it isn’t anything to worry about.

I guess Nibbles was feeling left out, so she decided to have a seizure last night. Dropped her off at the vet this morning for some blood work and observation.

  3. Steve says:

Good morning from Savannah. A small wrinkle in the plan- the shipper has only just left New York. He was supposed to be arriving this morning. Oh well, Debbie said it would be an adventure.

  4. Barb says:

so Martha, did I miss it – why did you have to go to the doc? did you get another injury?

  5. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Just left? Yikes! Is this guy a hasher? 🙂

I’m currently sitting at Java Jive, you guessed it, eating pancakes. I am contemplating spending a few hours at the High Museum, something I don’t do nearly often enough.

  6. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Yikes, my pancake habit is getting pricey. Stack of three with coffee at Java Jive comes out to $9.29 (tax, but not tip, included).

  7. Barb says:

Steve – there’s plenty to find to do in Savannah – or go over to Tybee & hang at the beach. That’s a bummer the guy forgot to leave NY yesterday, I hope you can deduct the hotel cost from the horse’s price……..

Now I’m thinking about breakfast, ngith have to have some Waffle House for lunch.

  8. Steve says:

Its a pancake kind of day. Nor waffles. The Mighty 8th Airforce museum is right here and I might toture Debbie with that.

  9. Barb says:

I like waffles & french toast better than pancakes…….. sorry kids.

  10. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Nearing the end of my third beer at The Marlay House in Decatur. I spent a few good hours at the High Museum (whose Twitter account is managed by Au Whatta Pair as I found out today) earlier.

I’m trying to kick a funk before meeting up with ITP-Reader Betsy later.

  11. Martha says:

Barb, no for once I didn’t hurt myself. 🙂 I’ve had a strange bump on the back of my neck since last week. It’s probably just a swollen lymph-node, I’m on antibiotics now, blood work and vitals are all normal. If it’s still there after 10 days of antibiotics, I’ll need to go back. Normally I don’t worry about this sort of stuff but this one just had me a little concerned.

Just heard from the vet, Nibbles is still on seizure watch but she’s doing fine and her blood work came back okay also. Not much else to do unless she has another.

  12. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Jeez, a lot of drama your way Martha. Glad to hear all sounds good however.

  13. bob says:

How can you be in a funk at the end of your third beer? That is impossible! 6th or 7th beer maybe but not 3.

  14. Barb says:

what’s up with the new bike Bob? going to start mountain biking more? what kind is it?

  15. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

It’s easy, but no body wants to hear my tales of woe.

    New bike? What what?

  16. Jenka says:

Happy, happy birthday, Paulie! Hope you have a wonderful day! (Didn’t want to post to your Facebook page, heh.)
