I know, it’s exactly an hour and twenty minutes long. However, that’s how long it took, and normally takes, for me to walk my five-mile route in the Perimeter Mall area. The exercise is good, the time it takes to accomplish it is not as good.
Today’s Daily Challenge
Check your toothbrush. If the bristles are bent and frayed, add a new one to your shopping list.
The recommended lifespan for a toothbrush is just three months, but many of us keep using the same old brush for much longer! Toothbrushes become infested with bacteria, bacteria that moves into your mouth. Most is harmless, but over time, more and more gets in there. If you think about what a toothbrush does for a living, you are doing yourself and the toothbrush a favor by moving on.
Who recommends that the lifespan of a modern-day toothbrush is only three months? The toothbrush manufacturers? I feel as if it’s like the oil companies telling me that I need to change my oil every three months. I’m due for my semi-annual checkup tomorrow (hoping that all checks out well and that my little front-tooth problem turns out to be nothing), and I assume that I’ll be getting a new brush in my take-home baggy.
A Weekend Of Body Punishment
After a relaxing day on Friday I headed up to meet coworkers at the Wing Factory on Roswell Road in (near) Buckhead. Doing the reverse-commute wasn’t bad at all and I punished (in a glorious way) my body by drinking beer at eating chicken wings knowing full well that I wasn’t going to have to wake up early, drive to Jackson county, and ride sixty-four miles of the Jackson Brevet century.
Instead on Saturday morning I rallied myself onto BlackJack to do my Stone Mountain ride. A funny thing happened along the way, while waiting for a traffic light I realized that I knew the two guys also pulled up on their bikes to cross the road. The guys were hashers Tastes Like Sh*t and Dumb F*ck, who were also riding from East Atlanta to Stone Mountain. I joined them on the journey to the mountain and was quickly dropped like a hot potato once the smallest climb was encountered. Undaunted, I kept going, took a few minutes rest inside the park, and the started my journey back to the ‘hood. Along the way I was passed by a pack of seven riders (none of which I knew) and I managed to jump to the back of their pack and ride along with them. The pack disintegrated along the ride toward East Atlanta and by the time I hit Kirkwood I was alone again. Oddly, as I crossed I-20 I was passed by another rider (boy, this is not painting my cycling skills in great light) but couldn’t maintain his pace for very long. It was a fantastic ride — until I realized how much I had strained my right knee (probably more like my IT-Band) and suffered the rest of the day.
With a nap behind me I attempted to get a lot done the rest of Saturday. I did not. I did manage to drive to Hop City in an attempt to get a growler filled with beer from Red Hare Brewing, but as I arrived there I noticed that I had done an incredibly poor job of cleaning out the growler the last time I completed it, and mold had grown. Did you know that Hop City has no provision for this, no discounted trade-in program for growler bottles? I would have had to buy yet another new growler bottle — for a system I’m still not sure I find economically viable — but with two other empty growler bottles at home I balked, and left the store with no beer. I stopped at Mink’s Package store near the household of ITP-Reader Barb (and her hubby Allan) where I then joined her, Allan, ITP-Readers Steve and Debbie, and Sal for a Tasty China outing.
Let it be known that when the nice waiter at Tasty China warns you that the dish you are ordering is “very spicy” that he is not lying. My “Shredded Beef with Wild Peppers” tore the roof off my mouth for the better part of the meal and was too spicy to eat for many sitting at the table. The leftovers are what I have for lunch today, and that will probably be the last time I encounter “Shredded Beef with Wild Peppers.” For me spicy food is good — in moderation.
After Tasty China the gang, sans Sal, headed off to Brunswick Zone for a game of bowling. I’m not going to mention who bowled the highest score, but let’s just say that it was the most deserved of the five-some. 🙂
I celebrated “You’re a Nice Guy But Not Deemed Husband/Father Material” Day like most men yesterday. I lounged around the house until about lunchtime and then headed out for a celebratory meal. I chose to try my hand at going to Big Tex Cantina again mostly because they were smart enough to answer my tweet about where I could go to get a “You’re a Nice Guy But Not Deemed Husband/Father Material” Day Special. Finding parking was much easier (now that I know the ins-and-outs) and I gorged myself on (more) chicken wings and a concoction known as a “Frito Pie” (a small bag of Fritos into which chili has been added). I may have packed on the calories at lunch, but considering there where about the only calories I consumed yesterday I was okay with that.
Big, Short Week Of Planning And Packing And Chores
I have another busy week ahead. In addition to my dental checkup I want to get my car emissions done this week and have all my stuff ready for get-away day later in the week.
In order to accomplish everything in time I’ve decided to skip the meeting of Roswell Photographic Society tonight, and may well also skip tomorrow night’s meet up of the Atlanta iOS Developers — if the meet up happens at all.
Busy.
Busy.
Busy.

I like how you forgot your Cheesehead championship belt……..
I’m taking my car over to Peach Auto today, I’ll have him get my emmissions for me, since I know my catalytic convertor is bad. He can do something to trick the machine.
Oh, I didn’t think that the belt was mine to keep.
I’m going to try the $9 emission place on Ashford-Dunwoody at I-285 and if I fail I’ll take the Jackmobile to Lam to see about getting things fixed. I’m trying to get at least one more year out of the Jackmobile.
Do you realize that if the NBA Finals goes to seven games it’ll take them two WEEKS to finish it? I thought these were elite athletes. Even stranger, during those two weeks games are not scheduled for Friday or Saturday nights.
The fact that you pay attention to the NBA amazes me, I really don’t know very many people that follow basketball anymore.
Oh, I am as far away from basketball as I could possibly be. Some of my coworkers follow and have asked me to join them for game watching; I have declined. Out of curiosity I checked the schedule yesterday and was astonished to see how long it takes them to get the NBA Finals over with.
When scouring the fridge last night for leftover dinner, I passed on my “fish with needle mushrooms” and instead tried Debbie’s “Crispy beef”. Did you know crispy becomes “downright tough and chewy and not in a good way” beef after microwaving? Me neither. I think the first layer of skin on my tongue has healed up from Saturday night.
As far as the bowling- clearly I was not representing the reigning Cheddarhead champion very well. There will be more practice… you have been warned.
Lovely to see Sal on Saturday.
My check-ins on the blog may be later in the day for the rest of the week, as I head over to “balmy” Augusta for Nationals. We already have over 1,000 individuals registered. Highs expected to be 98 and 100 this weekend. Oh joy.

And thanks to Barb (and Allan) for hosting the Tasty China pre-lube at the Garage/Deck Mahal.
BTW Steve – we were giving TJ lots of crap about being the manager of USA Cycing, Mary told him he needs to demand a raise.
He was wondering what your offical “job” was going to be over there……..
I’m one of the Comms and on the jury, in case we need to hang someone. Last year I was Chief Judge and I’m glad not to be doing that again.
The current spreadsheet shows me as being Comm2 (out with the break) for the elite mens’ road race next Sunday, which should be fun.
I had friends riding out to Stone Mountain Saturday, wonder if he was in any of those groups?
I ended up at SCT on Sunday, eck, wow were the crowds out if full force. Once out past 20 miles it wasn’t bad. I did tag along with a few groups, either they pulled way ahead after a few miles or peeled off early. I managed 50 but coming back was tough, felt like I was only using about half my lungs. Whatever I started to come down with on Saturday has hit me full force today. Throbbing head, sore throat, body aches. So I’m at home, trying to rest…I need to turn my Blackberry off.
Jerry got back yesterday afternoon. He really enjoyed the race, I think I might have to try it next year for myself.
So what kind of a race is that, Martha..
And we missed you Saturday.
It was the Chattanooga Mountain Stage race. They did 60 miles, over 3 days. It looked like a lot of fun, there was just no way I would have been ready for it in time this year after not really running for most of March and April.
I was looking forward to Saturday, I was hoping if I stayed in and behaved myself I would nip whatever this is before it got bad, I guess I was wrong.
Girls in a race? Now I’ve heard everything!!! Speaking of girls, *ahem* women, racing, it seems as if Sal crushed the ladies at another event on Saturday. It wasn’t until Saturday night that I finally found that I can do something better than Sal, unfortunately that something is eating spicy food. 🙂
Even with a big ride elsewhere there were a good number of people riding in and around Stone Mountain on Saturday morning. A word of caution to all of those using the “Pizza Ride” route — the roads are atrocious, specifically E Ponce / Church; same road on which Ken (the bike lawyer) wrecked and broke ribs last year. There are potholes galore on that road, so many so that I may have to devise a new route to ride.
Feel better, Martha.
Oh, and I’m keeping my eyes on Florida’s weather for week’s end. If it’s not supposed to rain (much) I’ll probably lug BlackJack atop the Jackmobile on my trip.
Hey at least you got out on your bike this weekend, that is a bonus.
Finally back from vacation. 2 weeks off is awesome, coming back to work after 2 weeks off is not so awesome. Holy crap did my schedule fill up fast. I also get to work late Wednesday, Thursday, AND Friday this week. Woo hoo
I thought June was “love bug” season.. throw Blackjack in the car.
You were missed Saturday Martha, but I’m glad you kept the plague to yourself 🙂
Welcome back to the real world Bob. Sorry you have to hit the ground runnning.
