Up until Saturday morning things were going exactly to script. I’d hung out with coworkers at Chuy’s (their choice, not mine) after work on Friday and returned to the office to do some wrapping up before heading home for a night of rest. On Saturday morning I awoke, somewhat revitalized (must have been due to sleeping until 8:30am) and headed into work…
Yesterday’s Daily Challenge
Check out the “salty 7” and learn which processed foods contain the most sodium.
Our bodies need a bit of salt to work properly, but many of us take in way more than we need on an everyday basis. Too much sodium ups the risk for high blood pressure, stroke, heart attacks, and kidney disease. By familiarizing yourself with the “salty seven,” you can make healthier choices when you shop, prepare food, and order in restaurants.
Heat, It Zaps Me Of Desire
After stepping one foot into the office I realized that the weekend air conditioning request we had put in was not being honored. The temperature at 9:30am was in the high 70s and I knew that it would only get higher. By the time the temperature hit 81ºF I knew that I was not going to be able to stay. I packed up my shit and took a nice, slow drive home. I had some ideas in mind and I resigned myself to writing code at home (I’d do this instead of going into the office on the weekends if I had a data source for running the majority of my code).
Did You Say “Upgrade”? Sayonara Snow Leopard
I sat at my main Mac, a machine I’ve resisted to upgrading to OS X Lion out of laziness and fear that it wouldn’t play nicely with some of my older hardware. I’d upgraded my laptop so I knew the process fairly well, and “upgrade Mac Mini to Lion” has been on my To Do list for months, but I’ve never made the time.
A hitch in getting my coding environment (Xcode) led to an attempt to upgrade Xcode, which led to me finally biting the bullet on Lion. Unlike previous Mac operating systems Lion is delivered and installed online (in hindsight I should have installed using the USB flash drive I constructed after the last install). The download took over three hours and I’ll never know exactly how long it took to install Lion because I had to give up on keeping an eye on it so that I could head out to Theatrical Outfit for “A Wrinkle In Time.” When I arrived home I saw the install had completed and I stared the daunting task of upgrading all of the essential applications which have been upgraded for Lion.
I spent the majority of Sunday doing configuration and backups along side the coding which did not happen on Saturday.
“A Wrinkle In Time” Was Not Exactly What I Was Hoping For
The actors did their best with what they were given. That’s really the best thing I can say about “A Wrinkle In Time,” a play adopted from the book of the same name published fifty years ago (remember when you thought “fifty years ago” was some amazingly old time in the past?).
The most entertaining part of the evening actually occurred before the show. I had noticed an attractive couple of women eating dinner at the Landmark Diner (around the corner from Theatrical Outfit), where I ate my somewhat questionable meal of a Bass Ale and a plate of french fries (what can I say, I wasn’t really that hungry because of the large lunch I had consumed). As it turned out the women were also attending the performance and had seats in the front row (I still think my dead-center, row ‘C’ seat is a better seat) when two men approached them. Apparently the women were sitting in these men’s “season subscriber” seats. The foursome compared tickets and when it appeared that duplicates had been issued, an usher was hailed. The usher the story and with one quick glance looked at the accusative men and said “Your tickets are for April 14th, you’ve missed your assigned seating.” The usher was polite, and I believe that she was able to find seats for the men (the four seats in the row ahead of me were never filled, so there was obviously room somewhere). I was amused. Most plays at Theatrical Outfit are without intermission, so I could neither see if the two men were in attendance, nor use the amusing situation as a way of talking to the women. Pity.
RealiTV Update: The Amazing Race — Dance Dance Revolution
SPOILERS AHEAD
It amazed me that 8:00pm raced up on me last night and I had not accomplished nearly as much code writing as I thought I would. It could have been the backups, the naps, the bread making, my malaise, whatever.
In last night’s The Amazing Race episode all teams raced into India where they had to perform a Bollywood dance as one of their Road Blocks. It was not a great surprise that the women who participated seemed to do much better than the men. Apparently some stereotypes were shattered as Mark, the African-American half of Kentucky’s “Bopper and Mark”, had difficulty performing the dance routine.
While it looks as if Rachel and Dave (Team The Bad Wife) are the odds-on favorites to win it all, I can’t say that I really want them to win. While I do think he is a bit of an ass, I think it’s her attitude which makes me dislike them. There just something about them…
Team Border Patrol, at least JJ, irk me too, though I think that they were justified in being miffed at Rachel and Dave for not U-Turning Team Big Baby as the (allegedly) had agreed.
Whoa, the preview for next week makes it appear that TAR has brought back the headshaving Fast Forward and that Team Big Baby has gotten there first. Does anyone think that Vanessa would shave off that lioness’ mane of her for a non-guaranteed-half-of-a-million-dollars?
Walking Starts Again Tonight This Week
The weather wasn’t an issue this weekend, I just never made the time to go out walking. I need to start this again today this week (the cold which started appearing with this cold weather snap has convinced me to hold off on my return to walking).
Related: This will be the last week that I bust my ass to get my app written. The Big Trade Show is early May and I’m trying to wrap up the version I’m sending to it by the end of this week. I’ll have plenty of work to do once the version is cut, but I’m going to try hard to cut back to a forty-hour workweek, exercise daily, have more fun, and start thinking about taking some vacations.

A good weekend of racing in Anniston. I had every bit of rain gear I own with me- therefore it didn’t rain a drop. A bit windy yesterday… Good turnout for the races. Great turnout for the Cheaha Challenge which they ran as a Grand Fondo- basically chip timed and they post results for overall and K/QOM.
It’s been an amusing morning at JEFDSDR- Izzie showed me that she knew how to get my display to turn 90 degrees and it took me an hour to turn it back (show off bitch). And Tate R. Tot. has learned what we’ve been trying to teach Farley for weeks- “sit down if you want to go outside” I let the dogs out, closed the door, then Tate came up and sat right down. Too funny.
F’ing hockey ran long last night and into Liege Bastone Liege… which just ended with 15km to go!!! Guess I’ll look it up.

“a bit windy”??? Holy crap, I’d say so…I ended up bailing on STU, Betsy wasn’t up to it and it sounded like the campers were having too fun of a time on Saturday to do much riding Sunday. So I hit the comet by default. It sucked…on a positive note, there weren’t a lot of people getting in my way. After 16 miles, I called it quits and turned back…when I finally got to my car I still had 40 minutes to go…I drove home and put the bike on the trainer to finish.
We spent the rest of the weekend searching for the source of the cat pee smell in the house. I think we found it and managed to toss a bunch of stuff from the junk room in the process.
I think I need to reread a “wrinkle in time”, for the record the last time I read the book it was probably less than 20 years old.
Good weekend of camping & drinking, only so so on the biking. We rode 44 on saturday, they changed the mileage choices to 67 & 43, we just weren’t sure we wanted to do 67 (seemed a bit much & might cut into our drinking time), so we opted for the 44. Had a blast with Team Roadkill, and Steve, Vern does remember you & says hi.
Sunday was “WINDY AS SHIT”, we all got up, put on the warmest clothes we had & had fun taking down tents in the wind. Sharon & I decided we only ride our bikes for fun, and that wind wouldn’t be fun. So, we came home & I went to the Spring Dress Wheelhopper pub crawl.
Oh, btw, do anyone want a cat? Apparently, he’s ‘mostly’ litterbox trained 🙁
Ewww, hashers wearing spring dresses in that wind?
It’s official, in addition to the hip, the back which doesn’t want to go flat again, I’m fighting a cold. It also doesn’t help that my office, which I complained was 81ºF on Saturday, is currently hovering around 69ºF — I’m wearing a fleece — ON APRIL 23rd!
I failed to mention my only previous exposure to “A Wrinkle in Time” was more than forty years ago when it was read by my “best friend Allison” who was, and I guess still is, a year or two older than me. Speaking of Allison I heard she’s divorced with kids. I’ve always wondered how/if my life would be different had we not moved from New York to Florida in 1978.
Martha, I laughed out loud at “mostly littler box trained.” The quote of the day.
I love a Wrinkle In Time and have the book with me in Georgia–the opening sentence “It was a dark and stormy night” reminded me of Saturday at 3 AM when I woke up, looked out the window, and thought “I ain’t riding a bike in this crap.”
Sorry I missed you guys! Sharon said she had so much fun camping she’s considering BRAG/BRAG lite. I’m gonna figure out a new dog-sitting protocol and look over the vacation…
Betsy- good call, we did the same.
I heard a crazy cat story this weekend, something about a mega colon & this one is definitley NOT litter box trained……. I will NEVER be getting a cat after that story. But, at the same time, I’ve never laughted so hard at a cat story either. Let’s just say its this guy Dan’s wife’s cat, he hates it.
