I’ll Drink To That!

OMFG, some day in the future parts of Georgia will be able to buy alcohol in stores on Sundays. Welcome to the twentieth century, Georgia!

Meanwhile, I’ll Be Drinking In Bars
With traffic at a standstill and me needed to work extra-late I joined two coworkers for a few drinks and dinner at Outback last night. Holy crap I need to stop going to Outback, I’m not fond of their beer selection and I think their food is over-priced. Last night I sat next to a man who bought dessert for the female member of our group. He was married and clearly too old for my coworker, but I figured whatever. After she consumed about half of the dessert I got to talking to the guy and found out that he works for the company that owns Outback. So while he was being “generous” he really wasn’t paying for the dessert out of his own pocket.

Overnighter
Like the proverbial Japanese businessman I never made it home last night. Thankfully I have no dependents so I was able to make the decision to return to the office and pound out some code prior to falling asleep on my cubicle floor. Even more fortunate for me I had packed clothes “for exercising” into which I was able to change after showering in the office building’s workout room this morning.

If there were a Waffle House within walking distance of the office I’d be taking a hike there for breakfast today.

No Overnighter Tonight
Tonight I’ll be home, hopefully watching some Modern Family and Top Chef: Texas. If all goes to plan I will be accompanied by ITP-Reader Betsy and food and wine will be consumed. [Related: I’m doubting that I will lose any weight this month.]

Sunday beermeisters in the ATL are rejoicing! ๐Ÿ™‚

Question: did you take the buying her dessert as a hitting on her type thing? I only question because you mention his marital status and age. Did it come across that way?

  2. Steve says:

And didn’t you make a recent proclaimation about limiting your alcohol intake?

Doing the walk of shame from your office to the WH? A new low!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    -FP

  3. It seemed a bit creepy. He even went so far as to say “And if you don’t like the Oreo waffle with ice cream I’ll buy you another dessert of your choice.” And for the record she is an attractive mid-twenties young lady.

  4. I have Steve, but drinking with the boss has some benefits. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And a walk to a Waffle House is still exercise! LOL.

For Modern Family/Top Chef-a-palooza this week, I was going to prepare a chicken pot pie. Then I decided I’d already made a pie this week and opted for a red wine sauce with fresh tagliatelle and sauteed green beans in olive oil.

But since you’ve declared you’re not losing weight this month, I’ll help us both out and bring a kale and celery root salad, topped with bean sprouts. Maybe a soybean tart for desert. Mmmm!!

  6. You bring whatever you want to bring Betsy and I will eat it. Btw- I’ll sign up for making the dinner next week. See you tonight.

  7. Barb says:

I’m with Steve – thought you were cutting back?
At least tell us what hanging out with the boss is getting you (besides not skinnier)?

And – please tell us you didn’t eat the french fries covered in cheese & bacon! (not that those aren’t tasty, but so very bad for you)

I actually went home at 5:45pm- first night I’ve gotten out of here before 6 in weeks. Had a roast in the crock pot & we were done with dinner before 7. By 9:30pm I was asleep – my schedule is so messed up, I was awake beffore 6am. So, I finally logged on FB for a few minutes, watched some morning TV (Damn this who Penn State former football coach stuff is CRAZY) & still got to work 30 minutes early.

  8. No, fries were dinner Monday. ๐Ÿ˜‰ (they were free and shared among many). Last night I had the flatbread appetizer.

Drinking with the boss is good, especially when you tell him (or her if that were the case) that you are headed back to the office to work and spending the night at the office. Hey, we’re seven weeks away from Performance Appraisal preparation time.

  9. Steve says:

And the shame of all the Penn State stuff is it’s going to take Joe Paterno down with it. So sad, on so many levels…

  10. If Paterno knew then shame on him. If Paterno was unaware of what was going on then it’s a shame that his legacy will be tarnished.

  11. Steve says:

Paterno knew and reported the SOB up the chain, as he was supposed to do.

And going back to work after drinking with the boss?? If you code suddenly starts working, maybe.

  12. I actually made progress when I returned to the office. A couple of hours away from my code cleared my head somewhat. I worked until about 11:30pm when I decided that I should go to sleep so that I wouldn’t still be sleeping when my coworkers arrived this morning.

  13. Barb says:

I’m thinking Joe had to have had some sort of idea that something was wrong, but had no real knowledge of actually what was happening. I’m sure he is shielded from lots of stuff & the university made sure of it. At least, that is my hope, I’d hate for all of his achievements to be ruined by this. But – at the same time, if he did know, it is just like the Catholic Church & their looking the other way – there is no excuse for that.

I’ve heard Outback mentioned lately for this produt. These are the infamous aussie fries. 2900 calories. For an appetizer. Wowsa. Who eat’s this? Do they go instantly into cardiac arrest? Does it come with one of those scooter chairs to help you to your car? Help us, Michelle Obama!!!

  15. Barb says:

Betsy- if you look around at many, many Americans – I think plenty of people eat those fries……..
It is those types of items that make me eat at home most of the time – it is just too damn tempting.

  16. Stacy Fox says:

Errr…. Paulie, it does seem really bizarre that dude would offer dessert ONLY to the female at the table? That’s a little creepy.

And I like your “not making it home last night” event. Have to admit, that often happens to me. It’s why I have an extra change of clothes and a sleeping bag in my car at all times. ๐Ÿ˜€ You just never know….. (of course, mine has yet to be work, so you’re making me look bad!!!)

  17. Martha says:

Jerry has to go to a lot of buiness lunches and dinners. He always checks out the menu online before he goes. That gives you the time to make healthy choices and not be tempeted or presured into ordering something you shouldn’t have.

This is the kind of thing I’m asking about when I want to know “what’s your plan?”

You need to be prepared for dinners out, getting home ‘too late to cook’, leaving your lunch at home…”He who fails to plan, plans to failรขโ‚ฌย.
