My pants this morning are bothering the hell out of me. It’s not necessarily their fault, though they may have shrunk slightly because of drying, it’s because most of the weight that I’ve added this year has settled around my waistline. I’m a pear, and as such may never again be part of a pair.
I Left Variety Playhouse Feeling Horny
Wha? What?
Last night I made it down to Little Hollywood Five Points for the Beirut show at Variety Playhouse. If you are not familiar with the musical stylings of Beirut they can best be described as a six-piece indie band whose predominant instruments are horns (trumpet, French horn, tuba, trombone were all played at one point), an accordion, and drums; there was an occasional ukulele sighting as well.
I left work around 6:30pm and wove my way down to Little Five. When I arrived I had a difficult time finding parking and was surprised to see a line waiting to get into Variety which stretched around the building. I never figured out why Variety was late to open (I know my commute to Little Five took about an hour and the doors normally open at 7:30pm), but once inside I purchased a Lagunitas IPA and an overpriced slice of mediocre pizza. With the thirty minutes I had between finishing my food and the opening band’s arrival on stage I used my iPhone as an eReader and started to get into the Steve Jobs biography.
It has been nearly four years since I listened to a lot of Beirut’s music so I wasn’t intimately familiar with their music any longer, I still had a great time. I was home at about 11:00pm and went to sleep soon thereafter.
Sometimes A Cigar Is Just A Cigar
Unless the God of Bad Traffic screws me royally tonight I’ll be making my way downtown to the Theatrical Outfit for their performance of “Freud’s Last Stand”. (as an aside, you can always use Freud’s last name to remember how to spell mine. In German “eu” is pronounced “oye” while “ue” is pronounced “ew”).
Because of the predicted rain I considered taking Marta to work today (what a concept!) but didn’t want to deal with idea of walking from the Five Points station to the Balzer Theater.
It’s Friday? Really?
Days have started meld together. Too much work, plus a lot of things going on in my world.
I have a “big” weekend planned. My house is one of the beer stops for tomorrow’s Hash Halloween Home Crawl. It’s now been at least five years since I last participated in a Hash Halloween Home Crawl and I’m interested to see how many people participate these days. I’m hoping today’s rain doesn’t completely screw up my plans to clear the driveway and carport of leaves as well as mow down my scary front lawn.
It’s also Georgia / Florida football weekend. I have a feeling that this year I will end the day disappointed because even though I don’t think Georgia’s team is that good Florida’s team has proven to be less than good.
On Sunday I’ll be back in the office working. Even though my demo went fairly well yesterday I’ve committed to getting a lot more things coded between now and CES in the beginning of January. Unfortunately, working at least one of my two weekend days will become the norm instead of the exception between now and the end of the year. I do plan to take Thanksgiving, the day following, as well as that weekend off as a respite however.
I’m Sure That I Have More To Say, But I Need To Get To Work
For my TAR Game players, have you gotten your download yet? Muhahahaha! And as last week’s winner I’ll go ahead and choose Team AARP; they’ve lost once already and I can’t imagine that they’ll go much further.
Happy Weekend All!

Hope you have a good weekend and that the Home Crawl goes well. Don’t work too much. And go ahead and get that physical.
OK, now you have at least one comment for the day.
Thanks, Randy. I guess my lack of quality posts has chased people away.
What was the download? Crap…I forgot who’s still in TAR. Are the Gay Divorcees still racing?
…and I’ll see you at the Home Crawl tomorrow. My costume doubles as a public health message for those who dress all slutty for Halloween.
Beirut can best “be described as.”. I think you wrote “subscribe.”
I’m almost ashamed to admit it, but I haven’t had a physical (or even been to the doctor) in about 15 years or so. I’ve been thinking about scheduling a physical. Why have fantastic health benefits and not use them?
The download was either
“Bohemian Rhapsody” a cover by a band called Cru
OR
“Where is My Mind?” a cover by a band called Trampled By Turtles
Cool. I’m told that mine is the next-to-last stop. That should give me ample time to get my driveway and yard cleaned up, and get my camera ready.
Ha, I indeed typed “subscribe” instead of “describe.” It’s amazing how my fingers and mind are trained to type certain words.
Jenka, consider yourself lucky for being healthy enough not to need a physical.
