Hello Friday the 13th.
The Taxman Cometh
Tonight I will complete my taxes. Writing the necessary checks is going to hurt like a motherfucker. Expect rants about government wastes of money in the future. 🙂
I will be happy to have this burden off my “To Do” list however.
Spring Purging
Along with purging my bank account I will also be undertaking another task which is long overdue — Spring Purging (that’s the level above Cleaning). Come Monday I hope to report that I am living in a tidy house with less crap, and that I am in possession of my first tax deduction for 2007 – a receipt from a charitable organization.

Last night I met up with Stacy and Phil at Taco Mac for a few pints. This is one of those, a Terrapin Rye2 as seen through my phone’s shitty camera.
In addition to drinking we played a game of “Guess Information About Someone” about a waitress-trainee that caught my eye. Many thanks to our waitress Kim for playing along and giving us the answers to our questions.
I Was Nearly Singing The Blues
When I was first planning trips for this year one city popped into my mind for the first time, Memphis Tennessee. I’ve never been to Memphis, and not being a humongous Elvis fan have not been drawn to Memphis like a moth to a light bulb. However, I have heard interesting things about Memphis so I’ve decided I want to make a trip.
Yesterday a weekend travel deal to Memphis popped into my email and I thought about taking them up on it for a second. I then realized all of the crap I need to do around here this weekend and put the idea of Memphis on the back burner — or until another deal is delivered unto me.
And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – blah
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing The View — “Wasted Little DJ’s”
Website Of The Day – Check out The Thrift Shopper to find thrift stores near you. Who knows, you might be able to buy some of the crap I am giving away this weekend really cheap.
Exercise (b)Log – none
Mode Of Transportation To Work – Marta
April Goals
1) Lose two pounds. (starting weight 202 lbs?)
2) Run no fewer than thirty miles.
3) Do twenty push-ups and fifty sit-ups at on Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays.
4) Read three books, specifically
4a) “722 Miles: The Building of the Subways and How They Transformed New York”
4b) “Programming Interviews Exposed: Secrets to Landing Your Next Job”
4c) “50 Fast Digital Photo Techniques”
5) Take Marta to work at least ten times.
6) File my Income Taxes. (since they are due in two weeks I better get this done)
7) Wear “nicer†clothes to work at least one day a week.
8\) Cook dinner at home at least two nights a week.
Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]
I love Memphis. You don’t have to like Elvis, you just gotta like some good BBQ and BB King and you’ll be all set. Oh, and little marching duckies. Gotta love the little marching duckies. (http://www.peabodymemphis.com/peabody_hotels/the_peabody_ducks.cfm)
Let it be known that I was the only person who guessed anything about Megan/Lauren/Beth correctly last night: her age. I still don’t know where the hell Stockbridge is, though.
Yes, you did guess “Lauren’s” age correctly.
Huh, I just realized that I made no mention of last night’s Survivor. I guess it was just that memorable. 😉
If you want to save the money/see the lovely countryside of Alabama & Mississippi, I’ve heard that the drive to Memphis now is only 4.5-5 hours. There has been major Hwy improvements I’ve been told. Beale Street can be fun, food is good, and Graceland is worth the money, even if you aren’t an Elvis fanatic (at least I thought so). Allan has never been as well, so we will be making a roadtrip someday. Then, there is Tunica nearby to gamble, to pay for the trip, or pretend you took two trips!
Survivor spoiler:
Taking away the cushy camp was the best part, the shock on Cassandra’s face, what will she do…… I’ll miss Michelle, I liked her.
Yes, I was very disappointed that they were returning to the cushy camp, until they showed that the cushy camp had been taken away.
Hey – don’t take any pint glasses (or other drinking vessels) to Goodwill or your thrift store of choice.
Allan can use them at the firehouse. I’ll even come get them.
Barb: Actually, that’s a very good place to find glasses as well! I’ve often got a lot of really cheap ones from Goodwill – 25, 30 cents a piece.
I know & thought about it, but I don’t want to buy them any……… I’m too cheap for that. I just noticed on Easter when I was down there that their collection keeps getting smaller.
I’m not sure of the exact dates, but the Memphis in May BBQ Festival is supposed to be amazing.
@Barb: I’ll give some glasses up for the firemen.
@Elizabeth: Sounds good except May is already nuts for me.
The only thing I know about Memphis is based on Hustle & Flow. But based on that, I bet Memphis is awesome.
