I Am Tired Of Cold Weather And Unexpected Bills

The title of this entry has changed at least three times. Last night it was finalized. Even with the cold weather and mere single victory posted by the Mets I was having a good weekend — until I got into my car to head home from the Variety Playhouse. My weekend was spoiled by my car, specifically a little red light with the letters SRS on it. Apparently for some unknown reason my Secondary Restraint Sensor indicator felt the need to illuminate. I know two things about this light. One, I can drive the car with it illuminated. Two, it’s not going to be an inexpensive trip to a mechanic to get it turned off. The reason I bought a Honda was to avoid bullshit such as this.

One Child Left Behind
Spring is here, although you may not know it by looking at the temperature. More and more of the people I know have entered into lasting relationships. I haven’t had a date in ten months. I quit.

From Friday night, the only game that ended the way I had hoped.

Oliver Perez Delivers During Opening Week

I’m also once again frustrated with my photography. I had an awesome seat, and with my camera I expected much better shots.

Always Be Closing
That is the underlying theme of “Glengarry Glenn Ross”, the play I saw on Saturday afternoon with my friend Stacy at the Hertz stage of the Alliance Theater. The cast did an admirable job of performing each role and no curse was spared which made me appreciate the performance further. We were also pleased to find out that after the show the actors came out for a brief question-and-answer session with the audience. If you fancy live theater and specifically the play “Glengarry Glenn Ross”, I have heard that its run has been extended until the end of this week. Go see it.

The Mets should have used the same “A-B-C” logic yesterday as they blew their one-run lead in the eighth inning of yesterday’s game. Thankfully I didn’t venture out to brave the cold, I watched it all go down in the (almost) comfort of my own home.

It Takes All Types I Suppose
At 8am on Easter Sunday the current temperature in my neighborhood was 30 degrees. And my neighbor started mowing his lawn.

Now I understand time schedules. I understand that they might be having company over today and it would be nice to have a pristine lawn especially if it is to host an Easter egg hunt, but come on, 8am? What if I wanted to sleep late on Easter Sunday?
It’s bad enough that I was awaken by their faulty car alarm that sporadically goes beep-beep-beep when the temperature drops below freezing.

Fortunately for me I am an early-bird, and I had one of those bizarre sleep-pattern nights where I doze off extremely early, wake up around 2am, and then go in-and-out of sleep the rest of the night/morning so I was wide awake when the mowing began.

Easter, Sebadoh — Yes; Amazing Race — Recorded
Having a ticket to the Sebadoh concert I convinced myself skip watch Amazing Race and not another concert. Until the SRS indicator I felt I had made the proper decision.

Sebadoh put on an incredible concert. The show was a mix of tunes from Harmacy, Bakesale, and III — to the best of my knowledge (I have been wrong about set lists in the past, so I make no guarantees. The band members switched instruments often, and there was a good mix of crowd interaction thrown in as well. I saw Rich in the audience recording the show (Sorry buddy, I wasn’t in the socializing mood otherwise I would have come up and said hello. Your identity was unveiled by a conversation I eavesdropped on by two guys I’ve seen at a million local shows.) so hopefully you might get to hear the show even if your didn’t attend.

Perhaps the most interesting thing I saw, other than the really attractive short-haired woman wearing bunny ears, was the number of people carrying records, that’s right, vinyl. Huh, I didn’t think people still bought those.

The crowd was smaller than I had imagined, until I realized how long ago I used to listen to Sebadoh. A quick calculation revealed that the majority of Atlanta’s showgoers were probably in short-pants, or perhaps diapers in Sebadoh’s “hey day”.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – beaten
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing Sonic Youth — “Schizophrenia”
Website Of The Day – I need a drink. Maybe this week I’ll use Local Wine Events to find a wine tasting nearby. I will no longer care who else is in attendance, but rather how to get my wine on.
Exercise (b)Log – 20 push-ups, 50 sit-ups
Mode Of Transportation To Work – Marta

April Goals
1) Lose two pounds. (starting weight 202 lbs?)
2) Run no fewer than thirty miles.
3) Do twenty push-ups and fifty sit-ups at on Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays.
4) Read three books, specifically
4a) “722 Miles: The Building of the Subways and How They Transformed New York”
4b) “Programming Interviews Exposed: Secrets to Landing Your Next Job”
4c) “50 Fast Digital Photo Techniques”
5) Take Marta to work at least ten times.
6) File my Income Taxes. (since they are due in two weeks I better get this done)
7) Wear “nicer” clothes to work at least one day a week.
8\) Cook dinner at home at least two nights a week.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Bummer, no Amazing Race comments until tomorrow. And I was sure to watch it so I could comment.
So – here’s something that has nothing to do with your blog – Zach Johnson, winner of the Masters, went to my high school ib Iowa (10 years later). Now we have 2 famous athletes from my school (otehr one is Kurt Warner), I think that is fairly impressive since it was a small catholic school.

  2. Sarah says:

The SRS sensor in Hondas of that era (mine is a 2001) is especially sensitive to electronic interference from cell phones, laptops, etc. They know this. I was told by the dealer not to use my cell phone in the front seat. Brilliant. Anyway, the dealer will probably turn it off at no charge, but there has been no recall because it doesn’t affect safety in any way. So you can either make repeated trips to get it turned off, or get used to it. Mine has been on for over 2 years. Hopefully it’ll burn out one day.

Or as Click and Clack of “Car Talk” would say, a small piece of black electrical tape would take care of that problem nicely.

I was considerate of my neighbors yesterday, and decided not to start jack hammering the driveway until 10:30… it being Easter, after all…

… and some of us are bombing out of our relationships and then questioning ourselves as to what the fuck we are doing… for everyone that goes good, there’s another, Paulie, where someone just hosed it. The upside to what you are doing (or not) is that you avoid the wonderful roller coaster ride of a relationship both the good and bad.

  5. Oliver says:

Looks like this will be an outstanding battle between the Mets and the Braves all year. I’ve got a new hook-up on tix so if you want to go catch any of the Mets games this year for free, I can probably hook it up. (It’s the least I can do for the daily entertainment and music tips) Plus these are in the shade which is good for the summer games (Not so good for our sub-Arctic April games). I think the Mets come through next time for either Fourth of July or Labor Day weekend.

  6. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Sorry for the delayed response, folks.

@Barb: Sorry. But hey, there is something to look forward to for tomorrow. 🙂

@Sarah & Steve: Very interesting… Mine is a 2002. I think I might be getting a bit of electrical tape ready. I’m not willing to take the chance of bringing it in right now.

@Oliver: The Mets return again in May (22-24 to be exact). I was considering the 22nd as I will be unavailable on the 23rd and 24th.

@Gentri: I am still trying to figure out if it is truly better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

  7. Stacy says:

So you feel like a drink, do you? (“Website of the Day” comment) Too bad it’s the wine that’s ticklin’ your fancy, because it IS a new month at Taco Mac after all…and Thursday’s but a stone’s throw away for us optimistic types….

And d’oh! Who else is newly off the market? Why am I never up on the latest gossip? This is a good thing for them I hope. And I hope it’s a lesbian couple you know so that *my* possibilities aren’t dwindled either. Okay, dwindled by one, but, hey, it’s still one! (Am I bloody selfish or what? Huh. And we wonder why I’m not dating either) 😉 Hehehe

Keep yer chin up — Spring is the season!!

  8. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I’m free on Thursday. My Taco Mac Passport needs some love.

    The newly off-marketeers are non-hashers.

Spring may be the season, but I’m no longer in the game. This won’t change my life much since I haven’t really been in the game much anyway. Remember one of my ’07 goals was to get a girlfriend or to give up trying. I think I’ve gone for the latter.

  9. Your camera is fine, the lens is too short. There’s a reason the pros on the sidelines have big honkin’ glass.

  10. Understood Smoove D, but it seems that people with P&S cameras get better close ups than I am with my 300mm lens. I’m just a bit frustrated with all of my endeavors recently.

It’s better to have loved than not loved at all. Really, think about it.
