The only thing that kept yesterday somewhat normal is that I didn’t ask anyone out on a date.
Fire Drill? Seriously?
Just as yesterday’s stage of la Vuelta a España was to begin (10:00am EDT) the fire alarm in our building went off. Dangen! Even with the weather being nice descending six flights of stairs, behind many people who have no clue where the stairwells are located within our building, is a chore. It just being a drill we were allowed back inside the building within twenty minutes of our evacuation and I climbed back up those six flights of stairs.
A Whole Lotta Shaking Going On
And more than just on my belly!
First there was an earthquake in southern Colorado.
Then there was an earthquake centered in Virginia.
The oddity about the latter is that I felt my office building shake briefly, “Earthquake?” entered my mind, but I assumed that it was related to something that my cubicle neighbor was doing. It wasn’t until about an hour later when I got up for a cup of afternoon coffee that I found out that I really had felt the after-affects of an earthquake.
Perhaps calling what I experienced an “earthquake” is a bit extreme, but little fell under what I consider to be normal in my life.
ITP Flickr Pic
As photos go this won’t win me any prizes. However this photo proves that ITP-Reader Steve is indeed in Colorado working the USA Cycling Challenge.
Here we see Steve signing in Christian Vande Velde before yesterday’s departure from Salida. Pretty cool in my books.
A Whole Lotta Laundry Going On
The lavanderia was crowded last night; it was as crowded this week as it was empty last. Strange. I was able to get all of my laundry done and fought the urge to go over to Las Tortas Locas and scarf down some tacos.
With Ones Witch
As I mentioned last week I am currently reading Shopgirl. I brought my iPad into the lavanderia with me and read while waiting for my laundry to complete.
I don’t claim to be the best reader, but when I read the passage
WITH ONES WITCH, THE LIGHTING in Ray’s house goes from post office to jazz nightclub.
I had to double-back a couple of times before I realized that the passage should have read
WITH ONE SWITCH, THE LIGHTING in Ray’s house goes from post office to jazz nightclub.
Maybe if this programming gig doesn’t work out I’ll go into editing.

The Great East Coast Quake of 2011 was definitely a big topic of conversation in the office yesterday afternoon. To me at first, the slight shaking we experienced really did not warrant the amount of conversation it produced – but then again, it doesn’t happen that often around here, so it was kinda fun. The best piece of audio I heard regarding the quake was a replay of an interview on our local NPR station that was interrupted by the quake – both ends of the interview experienced the quake, but at different times. If you want to listen, look for Quake Felt in NC at:

OK, one of our lab analytsts just let me know that his septic pump was knocked out by the earthquake, so I guess we did sustain some minor damage… 🙂
I’ve read your blog, better stick with the programming 🙂
I felt nothing, I might have been in the car, driving to get a new CDC ID. It was a failed mission, for as I got about half way to the badge office I remembered they would be taking a new picture and the frizzy mess that sits on top of my head was not in a photo friendly mood yesterday.
When I was locatated at the CDC on Clifton Road we would have to evacuated the building about once a month, even with all that practice it was a cluster fuck everytime.
nice screen shot of Steve…….. I realized yesterday that they are doing the coverage live, so I missed the ending. We taped the 11pm version, but of course haven’t watched it yet. Allan’s mom said they painted some interesting stuff on the road into Crested Butte – a huge pot leaf being one of them.
no quake felt in Marietta, the news coverage of the local idiots was hilarious, you’d have thought some fo those folks were in VA the way they described it.
Looks like Irene is going to not hit Savannah, so I guess I’m going to be reccying the Wheelhopper trail for InterAm this weekend.
😛 at you, Martha!
I seem to be better at noticing others’ flaws than I am at my own, unless the subject matter is dating, eating, drinking, not exercising, being fat… 😉
I saw the marijuana leaf on the road yesterday. I also saw a few spots where it said “UP DOG” as in the “What’s up dog?” joke. I know the riders are used to idiots running along side of them but there were spots where I was certain punches would be thrown. I’m loving these double-dose of cycling days!
Seriously, I understand the local news business but I shake my head constantly…
Huh, Mark Cavendish has abandoned the Vuelta a España.
Hey, I know him!
Good thing I dvr’d the race since Steve missed the finish. There was a sprint line 5k from the end so they had to trail the caravan to the end.
I read between 4-5 ebooks a week and ALL of them are poorly edited. I have actually thought of trying to market editing services to the sector since they are so clearly needed.
