Well, not really. Today I returned to the Grand Experiment by taking Marta as transportation to work for the day. There have been times when I’ve used Marta for one part of my commute, such as Wednesday when I dropped my car off for repair, and I rode the train to go fetch it.
My philosophy today was that it’s the first Friday back to work, there is a ton of rain coming, and tonight I am headed to Clarkston for a party (there is no good way to get from Perimeter Mall to Clarkston when traffic sucks).
The commute this morning went as well as it could — I didn’t have to wait too long to get a Westbound train and I boarded (nearly slipping ass-over-tea-kettle) a North Springs train immediately at Five Points — but it still took me an hour to go door-to-door. When I drive to work the commute takes no more than thirty-five minutes.
This will be a work in progress.
Please Pass The Whine
Tonight will find me at a wine and cheese Christmas re-gifting party. Long time readers will no doubt remember that two years ago I brought the beloved Jesus Clock and last year I brought a six-pack of nasty Thanksgiving-flavored Jones Soda.
This year’s gift will not be so outlandish. I’d tell you what it is now, but as of yesterday my great friend and one of the party’s hosts can read my blog and I don’t want to tip my hand. Darn, I should have thought to take a picture of the item before I boxed it up last night.

On Tuesday afternoon the sky was blue and the weather was unseasonably warm. Remember? That’s the day I took off from work and one of the things I did that day was take the camera to Oakland Cemetery.
Time To Board The Reality Train
Admit it, you are jealous that I can watch so much RealiTV; okay perhaps you are not. However, if one of your New Year’s Resolutions is to be more like me and watch more RealiTV then I have some good news for you. This Sunday The Apprentice returns and this time The Donald is doing his bidness in La-La Land, that’s Los Angeles. I’ve programmed the TiVo-like Dish Network DVR to make sure that I have all bases covered for my viewing pleasure.
From the website it appears that each candidate has been given a nickname of sorts. To no one’s surprise the first picture I clicked on was that of a woman. When her bio appeared I found out that I had clicked on Heidi, “The Hottie.” Damn I am talented.
Decisions, Decisions
This is a huge (extended) weekend of football for me.
J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets!
The Jets have returned to the playoffs and are in a Wild Card game against the hated Patriots this Sunday at 1pm. This is also a Black Sheep hashing weekend. I haven’t been hashing in a few weeks and, if the weather report is correct, there will be rain on Sunday. I am going to wait until the last minute, but as of now I am leaning toward staying at home and watching the Jets game in HD on the big screen.
Go Gators!
Monday! Monday! Monday! My alma-mater attempts to win another National Championship in Men’s Football. A decade ago I stayed at home alone and watched them defeat FSU to win their first. This year I am contemplating going to a bar with my fellow supporters and see if they can pull off another miracle and win it all.
And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – pretty good all things considered
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing The Decemberists — “O Valencia”
Website Of The Day – There comes a point in life where one must question — “Will It Blend?” If you have some free time today I suggest you go and see what crazy stuff Blendtec is putting in their blenders. It’s weird, but it’s also neat.
Training Target – don’t know
Exercise (b)Log – none, why can’t I break this habit?
January Goals
1) Lose two pounds. (starting weight 205 lbs)
2) Run no fewer than fifty miles.
3) Do twenty push-ups and fifty sit-ups at least three times a week.
4) See Manchester Orchestra in concert. (January 6th to be exact)
5) Read two books.
Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]
Come on Paulie, get moving!
I’m on Take 2 for my weight loss goals. I stated back in September, I lost a little, but the holidays, family, etc, send me back to square one. I’m not going to let that set back get to me.
So as of Jan 3rd, I’m back to the gym and hitting the treadmill (9.5 miles for the week so far). I’m also keeping a food log (that isn’t fun). Next step is to work on some strength training and maybe yoga.
I also want to lose about 15 – 20 pounds this year. If I can do this you can too.
Exercise (b)Log – none, why can’t I break this habit?
Because you are choosing TV/DVR/comfort over working out and BSH and…
Phone rings in background, Gentri answers: “Hello? Yes? Really? No! Really? No! Yes, I’ll tell him, no he won’t be happy. Ok, thanks for the call.”
Paulie, that was your A**, he wants you to know that watching sports is not like PLAYING sports, you don’t get any exercise from it. Your A** would like you to go to BSH on Sunday and get him a little 5 miler in!
Run no fewer than fifty miles.
What’s the count? Seems like a pretty high goal from cold turkey. Do BSH and you are 1/10th of the way there!!! You need to log 2 miles a day for the rest of Jan for this goal! Evan at 5 miles per, you need to run almost every other day! Damnit man, where the hell are your shoes!
PS yes, this is the pot calling the kettle black… I don’t even have goals…………………………….
Having access to your blog at work now is like cocaine! How oddly appropriate your title is today. Okay, I mean it’s like cocaine as in *addictive*, not…well, however else you’d describe the affects of cocaine. How does one describe the affects of cocaine anyway?
In any case:
a) we will definitely photograph said present AFTER it’s unwrapped (for my blog if nothing else – the one you’ll turn purple for me).
b) let me know what you decide come Monday on Gator Game. If you’re at a bar somewhere, I’d like to join you if I can! I don’t have Gator Gear but I do have cute little Gator stuffed animals I can drag along to show my alliance.
Martha & Gentri: My lack of exercise is a combination of lack of motivation and lack of time. Last night I decided to cook a meal instead of eating out and as you both know, that never really happens really quickly. The meal was only a mild success, that’s why I didn’t blog about it today.
Stacy: We’ll talk about the Gator game tonight at your party. I also have my first photography class that evening — which complicates matters. (I signed up for the class before I knew UF would make it to the BCS Championship Game)
GO PATRIOTS!
Hehe, I wondered if I would be hearing from you today Dave.
Official Gator Viewing parties:

The only one that is close to us is Sidebar — I’ve never been there so I don’t know anything about it.
I tried to go to Sidebar once but it was closed that day. Therefore I too know nothing about it. Perhaps I should invite people over. I’ll be getting home about 8:30pm that night because I have my first photography that evening.
If I was a Gator fan, I would go to Buckhead, you can hang with all those drunk just out of college kids……. But wait, I would have done that about 10-15 years ago. Now I would go to Alpharetta. Most importantly, you would have a better chance of picking up a drunk sorority girl in Buckhead, maybe you could accomplish your goal of getting laid quite early in the year??
These days I’m more likely to get hit by a tumbleweed blowing through Buckhead than getting laid by a sorority girl.
There is no good way to get from Perimeter Mall to anywhere when traffic sucks.
Fill flash is your friend. Just mount the SB-800, put it on TTL, remove the stupid plastic alleged diffuser and go to town. The ASICs in the camera will handle the rest.
DUDE—reality TV—WHAT ABOUT BEAUTY AND THE GEEK?? Man oh man that show is silly. It premiered on Wednesday—the BEST part (required several rewinds and rewatchings) was when one geek did his “impersonation†of a blender on high speed–whoo hoo that was funny!!!!
Thanks for starting to try the MARTA again—it usually makes good blog fodder!
OH—I just looked and Beauty and the Geek will rerun the premier show Sunday night—I highly recommend it! http://thewb.warnerbros.com/shows/beauty-and-the-geek I like Mr. Pi’s (sp?) gang flash/hand signal a lot too. I’m assuming a TV fan like yerself would have dual TiVo(-ish) Dish tuners and you can record The Apprentice AND the beauty and geek show at the same time right?? You shan’t be sorry…
Oh—as far as your resolutions—try getting one of those inflatable big exercise balls. If you don’t use it to exercise, it makes for a GREAT foot rest/ottoman. Just my .02.
