Mum’s The Word

You’ll notice a certain topic missing from the blog from here on out. Don’t ask, I’ve decided no longer speak about it in public. The life must go on.

Something Expired In February, Thankfully It Wasn’t Me
I went to lunch out the other day — the first time in a good eight days. When a man returned my card I made the assumption that he was going to request my ID as is instructed on the back, but he said that my credit card had expired. I’ll be damned he was right. The card I handed him was good through 02/11 and thus the card was invalid a few days after my accident.

After thinking for a few minutes I recalled getting a “replacement” card some months ago, which I kindly ignored because I assumed that by activating that card I’d buy into some new terms of services or something. Rarely does a company reach out to a person in order to improve the user’s lot in life.

Searching For My Roots, My Blond Roots
Could I have been anymore air-headed than I was yesterday afternoon? First, I pull into this parking garage in which I’ve never been and I am flat-out confused by its design. Parking spaces were two-deep with no exit for the car pulled all the way in. “If I park behind someone, how the fuck will they get out?” I thought. Finally a parking attendant showed up and “explained” the procedure. As it turns out, if you are the car blocking the other car you must leave your keys with the attendant. Um, ew.

Having never been to this particular business before I confirmed its residence in the building whose parking lot I just mastered. The same parking attendant confirmed my assumption and instructed me to the glass doors nearby. I walked up and tugged on the door to no avail. After a few attempts I turned around and shrugged, the parking attendant opened her window and instructed me to press the button on the speaker next to me in order to speak to security. Duh!

Upon leaving the building I arrived at those same doors (at the same time) as a very attractive young lady. Under normal circumstances I’d have sped up and opened the door for her, but in my current condition I couldn’t get there first. So, I smiled and followed her out. It’s probably a good thing as there was a necessary button push in order to unlock the door and I’m certain that I would have gone face-first into the door in front of her. Who knows, it may have created a laugh which would have given me an in. Opportunity missed.

If I had taken a photo yesterday (or recently) it would have been nothing more than a self-portrait of an extremely frustrated man.

And There It Was
I like to consider myself to be organized. I have critical information stored in two locations only because I’ve not dedicated the time to consolidating the two databases into one. I was quite flummoxed the other night when I could not find some critical information pertaining to one of my online accounts. After three failed attempts I successfully locked myself out of my account. Frustrated I called the company’s help line and went through the procedure of unlocking my account.

Yesterday I was going to write a check in order to renew my High Museum membership. When I was done writing the check I noticed a sticky note in the back of my checkbook. Wouldn’t you know that the sticky note contained all of the information I couldn’t find the other night!

Like I said, I like to consider myself to be organized. I guess that I am wrong…

Taxing, Not So Poetically
As if I had no idea it was coming Tax Season is back, and after that last section I’m really feeling as if I’ve been kidding myself about organization. Holy crap, how is it possible that I could be missing so many documents, or only have them in electronic form, especially regarding Sharpened Stone, LLC.

I’m “ready” for my morning appointment with my tax preparer, and I’m also ready for her to shake her head mightily regarding the handling of my LLC. And I have a feeling that because of this, this year’s taxes will be painful, but not as painful as the events of last week or of tax filings of year’s past.

so, where was this confusing parking deck? And- did you block someone in, or did you park on the inside?

  2. Steve says:

Since there was an attendant, perhaps you were not the only one confused.

I forgot, today’s shirt.woot made me think of you.

  4. Barb says:

and the words to the song to go with the shirt are cracking me up

  5. Ha! That shirt is great. If I needed another t-shirt…

The parking deck is near the Earthlink building on Peachtree near 17th St. Of course in this city street addresses have no correlation to the streets so naturally the building number in which I went was 1350.

I did not block anyone in, I took an inner space. The attendant was then confused as to why I tried to hand her my car key.

Even better, I forgot to put this in the blog. To make sure that I was in the correct parking deck I called the office to which I was headed. Of course, the call got dropped. When I went inside and apologized for the confusion to the receptionist she laughed. She then said, oh I heard your entire conversation with the parking attendant. Hahaha.

“Upon leaving the building I arrived at those same doors as a very attractive young lady. ”

Is this the subject you will no longer address in your blog?

  7. Unfortunately for all who read the blog that is not the subject that I will no longer address.

For a while I’ll euphemistically refer to “attractive young ladies” as “VW drivers” or “Prius drivers” if that’ll help ease the pain.

  8. Barb says:

VW drivers & Prius drivers – now that is funny.
I guess you need to go get a part time job at a car dealership to find your next girl.

  9. That thought had crossed my mind, Barb. As an added bonus I’d get to see their financial situation.

  10. npts says:

read the quoted sentence slowly and reflect …

  11. Martha says:

No longer addressing? He’s never mentioned it before…this is news 😉

HAHAHA. Okay, now I feel even blonder.
