And and intro.
I blog so much better when I am not busy as all get-out at work.
Stuff White People Like
There is a blog out there called Stuff White People Like and while I’m not 100% sure, I think “eating from a food truck” is included. If not, it should be. Now you understand why I was so giddy to try food from the Yumbii truck on Friday, even if I was just considering it to be a “pre-lunch.:
(sorry about the over-exposed photo, it was the best that I could do at the moment)
The Yumbii truck serves tacos, burritos, nachos, all with a Korean slant (using Shiracha sauce for instance). The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. I order two, $2 tacos — one beef, one pork — and a side of sesame fries (fried in sesame oil). I will return.

Ho, Ho, Ho. Ha, Ha, Ha
On Saturday evening I was fortunate enough to have dinner at The Porter Beer Bar before attending “The Santaland Diaries” at Horizon Theatre.
First, here’s a pro tip: If at all possible, do not accept the table closest to the front window and door when eating on a cold evening. The food, beer, and conversation more than made up for the inconvenience. You have been warned. I ate a Buffalo Shrimp Po-Boy with fries and had two, 8-ounce, higher-alcohol-percentage beers which sent me through the roof. With some time to kill prior to the show’s starting coffee was consumed, which served the purposes of bringing me back down to normality as well as unstuffing my nose which had become impassible due to sitting in the cold of that front-window seat.
“The Santaland Diaries” outdid itself this year (and I highly recommend attending if you can). All night long I was in stitches from laughter, and keep in mind that this is either the third or fourth time that I’ve seen this plays during its twelve-year limited-performance schedule. The cast was outstanding and managed to crack themselves up by either executing some in-cast jokes, or reacting to the crowd’s feedback.
Maybe It’s Okay That Santa Comes But Once A Year
It’s but once a year that BWanA Claus and Kringle Crochet get together to lay the Black Sheep Hash‘s Christmas Hash. And after the punishment that was walking through a freezing-water creek maybe that’s a good thing. The trail was also briar-filled which made for some interesting blood lines on foreheads, faces, and necks at trail’s end.
What really stood out was the outstanding hare blessing and circle management performed by some stud named “Wee Little Bit.” Um, I mean I did the best job that I could given that it was the first time that I’ve been asked to bless the hares prior to their departure, and run the Black Sheep circle at the end. I have to admit that I was more than a little nervous when asked to do each. I also have to admit that I think my spur-of-the-moment rhyme at the blessing was weak, but I think I did a good job at remembering almost everyone’s hash name while running circle.
All and all I think it was a fun day of hashing.

I like the 2nd (smaller) picture.
We sat at a table too close to the front door at a restaurant Saturday afternoon too – I was cold.
I’ve been wanting to see the Santaland Diaries for years, just haven’t gotten around to it.
I was going to say I liked the first one (portrait orientation).
I’m sorry I missed the hash, I always like to see BWanA Claus in his bright red tights. I realized we didn’t do our Sunday Runner’s Cookie Exchange either this year. That week in Indiana has really thrown me off.
I love “Stuff White People Like”, I sent it to Jerry just to prove it was normal for me to like camping.
It looks like we will probably be saying ‘goodbye’ to the green Escape this week. We went car shopping yesterday, I have it narrowed down to two cars…probably make my decision today. I’m so bad at negotiation…I gave the guy a price yesterday, he whispered back “we can do a whole lot better than that”…and it looks like he will!
Good luck with the car purchase, Martha. Believe it or not the Jackmobile doesn’t feel as if it is shifting properly. I will attempt to check the transmission fluid and take it into Lam sometime very soon. As much as I hate to think about it, this may be the final straw which separates me from the Jackmobile.
I thought about the cookie exchange too. Not running has really taken me out of the scene.
so Martha – what 2 cars are you deciding between?
(I’m jealous, I want a new car so bad, but it just isn’t in the budget right now)
They are both Escapes (one is a Black Limited, the other a blue XLT)…
I’m leaning towards the blue one, it has a darker interior, side steps and the larger wheels…otherwise they are pretty much the same, except for some trim. There is a lot more standard equipment and options available than there was 10 years ago when I bought the first one.
Yesterday I was set on the black one, but after getting home and looking online a little more I want to check out the blue one. I’m going over at lunch to check it out.
Paulie, let me know if you have time for lunch when you bring your car in, I’d be happy to come and pick you up.
So here is my car buying tip- make your offer and leave. They have your number and they’ll call. If it’s the best offer you are willing to do, there isn’t any haggle to it. If they want your business, they’ll take it. And if you wait until next week, you’ll have a better chance of getting what you want. The downside of the strategy is if the deal isn’t one they can do, you’re left hanging…
The trail yesterday was as wet as I can ever remember running, and I had no idea that swamp was there. Almost lost a shoe a couple of times.. and almost had to jump in to save Little Willie from drowning!!

Thanks for the website “shout-out”…thrilled to hear Loretta Mae Sanders’ trailer was featured so prominently :). “Jolene Beckett” is my friend Erin (“Smully”) who talked to the guy and then realized he was conducting interviews for NPR.
Her response: “Oh, great…the one time I’m ever going to be on NPR and I’m giving a fake name and talking like a redneck!”
I didn’t know the site was going to feature her pic (she’s the one in front of our entry with the blacked-out tooth and the “Happy Birthday Jesus” Confederate flag booby shirt). Bet she’s doubly thrilled about that!
They really seem like they want to move cars…the offer they made on the black one was less than what all my ‘on-line research’ told me. Really the last big hurddle is fianancing…WellsFargo gave me some crazy bad rate, not sure what that was about, I’m hoping Ford comes through.
Two other things:
1) I love the Kindle I got Jerry for Christmas, I may have to get one for me (or just take his).
2) I have a new hound, just for the holiday, his name is AppleJack and is sooo great, maybe you all will get a chance to meet hime.
all the girls that read a lot here at work decided that the Nook is better than the Kindle. Not really sure exactly why…….. but something about being able to share books.
what kind of hound?
Tell me, does it make a difference to get “VIP” tickets at Horizon Theater or not? I’m thinking of going.
Thanks!
VIP tickets are nor necessary. However, get there early because they’ll give you a number (like an airline zone) for seating.
AJ is another Basset, but he isn’t anything like old Toby. This guy is HIGH energy, him and Logan have been playing non-stop since I brought him home. He’s a big sweetie too. Man, it’s going to be hard to take him back after the first of the year.
Anyone planning on running Friday and/or Saturday? I reall want to hit some trails if the weather cooperates.
And did “we” ever decide about the hockey game on Sunday???
I’m going to say we are out for hockey on Sunday (and anything else for that matter) – my periodontist decided I needed to have some work done before the end of the year (to save me a bunch of out of pocket money next year), so I’m going to be having gum surgery on 12/23. I will be filled with painkillers, and probably taking it pretty easy all weekend.
Paulie – I’m going to TRY to make it to A Christmas Carol on Thursday night, I told them I had tickets, and they said I should/maybe be able to go….. just no eating for me.
Gum surgery? Okay, you got me, I will not complain about the mamogram I’m having that same day any more.
yeah Martha – I’m guessing a mammogram is the lesser fo these 2 painwise.
I’d love to swap places with you 😉
I think “Whoops I forgot a title” is a perfectly fine title. And see? Some of us even read your titles. 🙂
Barb- I had gum surgery in October. It SUCKED! Only good thing is I lost a little weight…bad thing is, the holidays put it all back :(.
Stock up on smoothies and soup. Any food, even soft food, hurts.
