Flashing Friday

Don’t worry, today’s music won’t be “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”, today’s website will not be Flash.com and I promise that there will be no nude pictures of me nor flashing text.

Flash Back
I first considered moving to Atlanta some time in 1993/1994. It was Atlanta, GA or Austin, TX where ever I found a job first. Back in those days we computer geeks communicated used the technologies of the times — email and USENET (anybody remember USENET?).

It was through a USENET group that I inquired about Atlanta bars, music venues and bands. It was through USENET that I was informed about the LaBrea Stompers. (somewhere on a 3 1/2″ floppy I probably have a copy of that posting). When I moved to Atlanta in January of 1995 I kept an eye on the Creative Loafing looking for LaBrea Stompers show. Sadly, I came to the conclusion that the LaBrea Stompers had already ceased to exist by that time.

With time to kill yesterday I visited a local Goodwill store and much to my surprise I found this

The disc is in very bad shape (but I successfully ripped it to mp3s last night) and cost my a whopping $2.75.

So after twelve years of hearing a name of a band recommended to me I am now able to listen to them. My conclusion? Not bad, definitely influenced by David Barbe (who produced and engineered the disc), which is a good thing in my book; it was well worth the $2.75 gamble.

Flash Forward
Tonight I’ll be back at one of my favorite haunts, The EARL to see Captured! By Robots. I have no idea exactly what I am in for tonight. I, or should I say PodBop, downloaded a couple of songs from Captured! By Robots the other night but I’ve not found the time to listen to them. Sometimes I think it’s better off to be completely surprised.

Flash In The Pan
Also purchased from Goodwill yesterday was a book called “Vegetarian Pasta.” And you thought I was bullshitting about that vegetarian thing especially because I ate meat yesterday, didn’t you?

Is it just me or does anyone else believe that producing a cookbook that contains no (color) pictures is a really dumb idea? Of course you now know that “Vegetarian Pasta” has loads of pictures that make each dish look delicious (but not del.icio.us). Starting this Sunday I am going to try something that I have never done before, making each entree in the book in the order that it appears in the book. Yes, I am crazy enough to try and do it…

Flash Envy
Since jumping into the Nikon D50 digital SLR world back in January I have been accessorizing (pretty hard for a straight man to do I might add). I’ve got a telephoto lens on order, and have been trying to decide if my next purchase will be one of these

The cost is ridiculous, but can be justified that it is an awesome shoe-mounted flash that can be used off-camera through the use of a cable, and can participate function as a master or slave flash for those advanced photos that I will probably never take.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – even more frustrated
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing Sebadoh — “Ocean”
Website Of The Day – Ooops, I left this out in the first revision. Go play with some pretty colors with the Colr Pickr.

If you ever want a quick glance of the sites I’ve picked for my Websites Of The Day, you can check them out on del.icio.us, my user name is InsideThePerimeter (go figure), and they are all tagged as “blogged.”

Exercise (b)Log – nothing

Cheers!

Looks like the LaBrea Stompers seemed to have been quite familiar with the Clairmont Lounge, given the cover….

  2. Paulie says:

Yeah, I have a feeling they visited once or twice…

  3. Cory says:

Get the 800 so you can tell me if it’s worth it. I’m debating between the 600 and 800 myself.

  4. Paulie says:

You know I added the 800 to my cart three times today but couldn’t pull the trigger.

  5. Cory says:

    Just get the 800.:)

The specs seem to be worth it. Besides for the cost difference, you don’t want to be in a situation where you’re regretting not upgrading. Personally, the extra “lighting output” is worth the cost. I woudn’t necessarily use the slave/master setup, but I’d prefer to have a wider range of lighting options. My 2 cents anyway.
