Three Out Of Three Would Have Been Better
Last night I headed out to Smith’s Olde Bar, specifically to hear a band called Smalltown Mayors. I arrived early enough to have a beer and a wonderful “Fox Bros Cuban sandwich” in the smoky bar prior to heading upstairs for the show. The meal was more expensive than I had hoped, but luckily for me the show was much cheaper than the show, as last night was a “3 For $5” night at Smith’s on which you get to hear three bands for only $5. Even though the night started a little after 8:00pm, I was only able hang for the first two bands.
When I got inside the (thankfully some-free) music room I grabbed a table next to an older man, who I later found out was one of the Smalltown Mayors’ fathers — had I noticed the “Smalltown Mayors” t-shirt under his suit jacket, I’d have figured it out sooner. I was pleased to hear him tell me that his son’s band was going to be first to play, as it meant that I wouldn’t have to be out until 11:30pm on a Monday night.
Smalltown Mayors put on a good, straight-up rock show which lasted about an hour. I’ll definitely make an effort to see them again sometime in the future.
I decided that since I had a decent table I’d give the second band a listen. The second band of the evening was called Michael C. Smith And The Neighborhood. MCS&TN were more countryesque in their sound, which provided a nice change of pace, especially since they played it rather well.
Because the first two acts had been so good I really wanted to hang for the third band of the night (whose name I never found out). But, since it was already past 10:00pm on a Monday night I knew that I had to be somewhat responsible and head home. Hell, getting up this morning was hard, even with my attempt at responsibility.

I joked about this being the flowers I sent my mother for Mothers Day.
Instead, it was a lucky find while heading for dinner at Five Guys Burger And Fries last week.
The Hardest Part Of Using Them Is Remembering Them
I have four, count’em four, reusable shopping bags — two from Target, one from Publix, and one from when I went to see “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.” While I don’t especially like having to buy these in order to use them, I think that they are a good idea. I like to think that I’m clever, so I leave each of the bags in the trunk of my car so they’ll be available when needed. The only problem is that I only remember they are in the car when I’m inside the store with a handful of merchandise. DANGEN!
It happened again yesterday as I shopped in Target, except that I only remembered when the cashier asked the guy ahead of me if he wanted a certain item put into a bag.
I guess that I’ll have to improve my memory in order to save the Earth. Do you have a remedy for my malady?
The Glorious Life Of Laundry
Somehow it has been nearly two weeks since I’ve done laundry. As you might imagine I have a bushel to clean and fold tonight, and, I’m not exactly attired in my “Sunday best” today. Actually, if I waited much longer only my “Sunday best” would be clean and I’d be forced to wear it.
I thought about branching out and trying a new laundromat/dinner combination tonight, but I think with the amount of clothes to be laundered that I’ll be better off going to a place that’s familiar. Oh, and I won’t be disappointed by having to eat a Banh Mi tonight either. ๐
Oh, and tonight will also be known as my first laundry night with an iPad. W00t!

I used to do the same thing with my re-usable bags….so now, I keep them on the back seat where I will see them and remember to take them in with me!
So, yesterday I finally decide to put my bike in the car in hopes to ride after work….BRAG is in less than a month…….but no, it has to rain and foil my plans to get in a bike ride!
Bought a live trap to try to trap the garden critters….so far, I have gotten nothing, but then it was rainy yesterday so maybe they weren’t out and about……….maybe today! ๐
For some reason the rain really caught me by surprise. I had intended to take a walk to Target and my bank yesterday, but when I went outside I realized that walking was no longer an option. ๐
I’m with Sal – I try to leave the bags in sight, or I forget to take them into the store with me.
I had no idea it was going to rain yesterday, I even turned the sprinklers on the garden yesterday morning for about 30 minutes.
I’m tired today too. We are leaving for vacation in Utah on Friday, and I’ve developed a nice cough (nothing like trying to get sick right before vacation). I slept like crap last night, I just hope I don’t get any worse. I usually only drink caffiene (soda) at lunch, but I may have to break down & get a diet coke or something this morning.
Barb, I’ve got an occasional cough. I ran at lunch yesterday and was coughing for half an hour afterwards- maybe something is blooming but I’m not normally susceptable.
I have to give a shout out to Debbie, who always remembers (well, almost always) to bring in the bags. She’s just good that way. No trick I’m aware of.

It wasn’t suppose to rain yesterday but I was glad it did. I spent Saturday and Sunday working in the yard and planting bulbs and veggies. The rain was perfect.
I hope it warms up a little bit today. I’m taking the day off and really want to spend some time outside. I’ve been to the gym, cleaned the kitchen and now I’m thinking about a nap. ๐
I’m with the others, keep the bags in sight, at least until you get in the habit of taking them in. I have to admit, sometimes I don’t take them on purpose, so I have bags for the litter box. I got most of mine for free, one from a race and three from boot camp. I don’t know if the Target here is the same but when I was in Cinncy they gave me a $.15 credit because I didn’t use a bag.
I’ve been keeping plastic bags for hashing clothes for so long that I have quite the stockpile.
I think the Target stores here give a $0.05 discount when you use their bags. I know that Publix does not give any financial incentive to keep using theirs.
Whole Foods gives you $.10 for every bag, plastic, paper or cloth. I try to take more than I need, to give me a bigger discount. And – if you buy 6 bottles of wine, you get a 10% discount. Since it is the closest grocery store to me, (actually my office, and sort of on the way home), I tend to shop there as much as Kroger & Publix.
