A Week Late And Twenty Dollars Short
On Saturday night I joined a couple of photog friends for a trip up to Fort Mountain State Park for an interesting night and then some fairly nice weather in which to shoot.
The ride up there was dark and rainy and we arrived at the park just before the gates closed. Although the sign stated that there was no camping available we ignored that and paid the, now $5, daily parking for a state park. I had planned on buying my annual Annual Parking Pass on Sunday, but upon seeing that the cost has gone from $30 to $50 I decided not to.
While driving around looking for a place to sleep we chatted with some park rangers who told us that many had left the park that day, gave us the code for the camping area, and instructed us to “settle up” the next day. We easily found an open campsite but the “easy” ended there. Not expecting to get a campsite I didn’t bring any wood. Of course all of the wood and leaves in the camping area were wet from the day’s rain, so we were never able to get a fire started no matter how much we tried. Giving up on fire we turned our attention to shelter. Again, not expecting to get a campsite, and only expecting to get a few hours sleep none of us packed a tent. We had driven up there with a tarp and a pickup truck expecting to use them for our shelter. What we didn’t expect was the cold and wind which followed the rain. It was not the worst night of camping sleep that I’ve ever had and for that I can thank the items I did pack — a knit hat, gloves, coat, sleeping bag with a fleece blanket that I use a liner, and my therma-rest.
Sunday was a good morning of shooting, thanks in part to the “extra” hour of sleep, even though that meant the sun would rise earlier and I think that we were probably a week too late for the Fall’s best color.

I took a bunch of photos yesterday but was too pooped to process.
This lamp is not called the “HergønLÃ¥mpen” (although it should) but is one of the many that you can buy at IKEA.
Stick A Fork In Them, They Are Done
I’m officially giving up on the East Atlanta Deadbeat Dads for this season. Hell, while I’m at it I’m officially giving up on the NY Jets for this season too.
Did Anyone See The Final Score From Saturday’s UGA/UF Game?
Oh wait a minute, I did…
😀
Unfortunately (for me) I didn’t get an opportunity to actually watch much of the game.
Mr. Live Blogger
Tonight I’ll participating in something I’ve never done before. I’ve been granted free admission into tonight’s Wolfmother show at The Tabernacle in order to live-blog, and I presume pimp for, Clear. The show should be much fun, even though I am told that the VIP room in which I will be placed has no line of sight to the stage? What the fuck sort of VIP room is this? Doesn’t any one there understand that the V and I in VIP stand for “Very Important”? Oh well, at least I’ll get in for free.
I don’t know where my night’s work will end up yet but when I do I’ll be certain to mention it. 😉

Sal, I just remembered this: I saw a sign for a “Trail Marathon to be held on November 2nd 2008” while headed to one of the overlooks to shoot yesterday. I had a good chuckle realizing that was for last year’s MMM.
the Jets coach was kind of funny in the post game interview – he was saying how did we lose? We outplayed them & still lost.
And – why was there no Sunday night football? Because of the Wold Series? Who cares?
Oh yeah – I think the VIP section at most concert places are for the important people who really could care less about the show and are just there to party on someone else’s dime.
I watched that Jets game in horror. I differ with the coach’s assessment though, the best team on the field won that game.
You are right. There was no night game because of the World Series. I don’t understand why the NFL does this. Professional courtesy? I know there are many people who could care less about the World Series.
I *hope* I get free drinks tonight, especially if I don’t get to see the show. And I am interested to find out how I am suppose to “live blog” something I cannot witness.
So, Martha was nice enough to meet me at my Vietnamese mechanic’s place to have lunch while they changed my oil, and we decided to go check out your Lee’s Bakery. I totally agree, awesome sandwich for only $3. Good find.
Lam told me there is a restaurant right next door(? – I wasn’t looking) that is really good as well – check that out next time you do laundry. I need a guinea pig.
Today? Shit, I so would have met you too so that I could take my car in for an oil change!
I think the restaurant to which he refers is called Com, but I could be wrong. Did you peek into into the laundromat. 🙂
Lam didn’t tell me the name, just that it was next door.
Well – it was sort of spur of the moment for lunch, I’ve been blowing it off, and I decided if I want my car to get to 200,000 miles, I better not blow off the oil change any longer.
But – if you “bribe” Martha (as in ask her), I bet she would meet you over there another day soon. I don’t think they could get 2 oil changes done at the same time 😉 Actually, they only had the one bay open, and they rotated my tires & made my clock work again. I love those guys.
Yeah, the Jackmobile is about twenty miles shy of 100k. If I want it to run until I lose my mind and change my life significantly then I need to get its oil changed soon.
This weekend is the campout, next weekend cabin in the mountains after that I’m taking the car in for a little work and getting here detailed for our trip north.
She is covered in mud from the parking lot on Saturday…I need to find a drive through car wash to get the majority of the mud off…you wouldn’t know I never left town, looks like I went mudding.
Just let me know, we can go back to Lee’s (i couldn’t get over the bread 3 for $1) or Los Tortas Locos is right across the street as well.
