I’m Back, It’s Friday, And I’m Buying Plans For An Ark

My vegetable container held about three inches of rain which had fallen over the past two days. I go away for two days and this is what you people let happen? Why is it that we either have no rain or too much? Can’t we bargain for a little moderation?

Today is another short blog because I’m too busy to dedicate the time needed to write a longer one. Sorry about that.

Wait Wait Do Tell Me!
My tickets for the performance of Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me! in “Atlanta” arrived in the mail yesterday (or on Wednesday — I don’t know since I wasn’t ITP).

I was thrilled to get half-decent tickets because I figured out the presale code “KASELL” the day before tickets went on sale. I was surprised and disappointed to find out afterward that many people already knew this presale code. Oh well, it doesn’t diminish the accomplishment that I figured it out on my own.

What still confuses me about my ticket purchases is that I purchased two tickets. Two? Me? The guy who hasn’t had a date in three years? What the fuck was I thinking? Oh well, I’m (almost) sure that my extra ticket won’t go to waste.

TWO ITP Flickr Pics
These are two of the four free-standing hearths that I passed on my way home from Clemson, South Carolina yesterday.

After passing through Iva, South Carolina…
House Is Gone, And The Garage Is Following Suit

And a little further down the road in Georgia…
Roadside Hearth

I really should have stopped to take photos of the other two as well, but I was being lazy.

Time Is My Enemy
Sooooo muuuuuuch to do! Sooooo littttttle time!

I’ve still not selected what I want to print for the upcoming photography exhibit. It’s driving me nuts that I’ve waited this long and I’m about to throw up my hands and quit.

If I feel the desire to go out for a concert tonight I’ll be heading to Masquerade to see/hear She Wants Revenge.

Tomorrow and Sunday are already overbooked and with the weather the forecast that I’m seeing the one thing I really want to do — cycling — may lose out.

Stats & Goals
Daily
Current Mood – meh, hating this weather
Current Music – listening to last week’s “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me!” podcast.
Website Of The Day – One of the things occupying my time this weekend is the Atlanta Linux Fest. No, I’m not a nerd. I’m trying to return to nerdome so that I can be employable where ever I go.
Mode Of Transportation To Work – my car
Exercise (b)Log – nothing
Morning Weigh-In – 200 pounds

Monthly
Foot Mileage – 5 miles, Wheel Mileage – 136.7 miles
Consecutive Days Of Bed-Making (Longest Streak) – 1 (10)
Vegetarian Days – 1, Carnivorous Days – 16
Marta Rides – 0

September Goals
– Not get fired from my job
– Take at least one photo every day
– Restart work on house, actually making progress this time (note: not successful during August)

2009 Goals
– Reduce my weight to 190 pounds (today’s weight was 199.5 pounds)
– Completely read the book 1001 Paintings You Must See Before You Die
– Earn at least $150 through photography sales in order to cover the cost for the renewal of the Jalapeño Beach SmugMug account I opened the other day.
– Save $500 for the sole purpose of donating to charitable organizations of my choice
– Attend at least one professional photography workshop

The Unmeasurable
– Continue backing up all data, including the off-site storage
– Become a proficient programmer in Objective-C (iPhone development) and Ruby on Rails (Black Sheep web page concept)
– Do not create a solution for something which is not a problem

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Wait wait, we got tickets too! Except I think Laura chose will call, we already had to pay too much ticketBastard “convenience” fees I did not want to pay shipping fees too.

I REALLY want to ride 3 gaps this weekend. Allan seems to think the rain will not be so bad up in the mountains. I’m torn on what to do.

  2. Barb says:

At least you stopped to take pictures of 2 of the hearths.

My weekend isn’t as booked as it was supposed to be, our Wheelhopper hares decided it was too wet to do the trail up in Ellijay, so we have Saturday free now. I think we may now go ride some of the gaps instead, and then we are now able to go to Martha’s birthday party that evening.

Sunday we have Falcons tickets – hopefully that will be a good game.
My friend may still have 1 ticket available, anyone want to go? $25. I don’t know if she has sold it or not, I can ask if anyone is interested.

  3. Steve says:

C’mon Bob, how bad could it be? Steep decents on wet pavement, killer climbs in the pouring rain. It’s all good.

  4. bob says:

True Steve, I have ridden in worse. At least it won’t be snowing 🙂

  5. Steve says:

    Snow! That’s what we need… E.P.I.C.!!

I just tried to get 2 seats to Wait Wait and they were not to be had. Ugh.

  6. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Bob, are you sure it’s not going to snow? 🙂

Hey, today is Lance Armstrong’s 38th birthday. Young bastard!

  7. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Bummer Steve. Had I known you and the Mrs were interested I would have picked up two more last week.

  8. Steve says:

We had discussed it, then I let it slide too long. I couldn’t even get singles.

  9. Barb says:

I think I’m one of the few that doesn’t listen to NPR. But- that being said, I don’t just listen to much, I like visual media.

Bob – it isn’t going to snow.
That being said, I’m not going if the radar makes it look like it will be raining.

BTW Paulie – new season of Survivor started last night – I don’t suppose you are going to be back on that bandwagon, are you? I saw the first part (yes, I love DVRs) but then we switched over to Fringe. Allan only likes to watch the challenges, he has no time for the rest of the show.

  10. RanLiCoop says:

If nobody else wants to go, I’d definitely consider a trek down to the ATL to attend WWDTM.

  11. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Barb, odd weather circumstances (no satellite because of nearby trees being drenched) did lead me to watch Survivor last night using my over-the-air skills. If they keep eliminating pretty girls I might not stay long though. Btw- Amazing Race starts in two weeks (Sep 27th)!

Randy, there will probably be good chance that the extra ticket goes unclaimed. Stay tuned.

  12. Barb says:

Amazing Race – yippee! I gotta set my Tivo for that too – don’t know what time we will be back from 6 Gap.

I don’t really see any new (regular) shows that look all that interesting this year. At least they renewed Castle – it was one show that was new last year that I really enjoyed.

  13. sal says:

At least one of my activities this week-end will involve water….rafting down the Ocoee River….should be flowing pretty good!
Running a trail 1/2 marathon in Ducktown. Rain and Mud…woohooooo!

  14. Jenka says:

I had the special code for Wait, Wait, too. I got online, picked out the seats I wanted and then faltered because I didn’t think I could find anyone to go with me. Didn’t think anyone else would want to see it! Hubby doesn’t care for it.

  15. Out of curiosity, how did you get the code? I doubt that I’ll be able to crack codes in the future, so I’d like to know how others found out.

  16. Jenka says:

I’m a member of NPR and donate once a year. So I get all the pre-sale codes for whatever events they have going on. If you’re interested in an NPR event in the future, feel free to ask me for it! (Or, um, you could donate yourself.) 🙂

  17. I have been an NPR member for years and have never been sent anything with presale codes. WTH!?!?!

I even complained aloud with the Wait Wait tickets because new members were getting the opportunity for tickets but I was never offered the opportunity. No one ever mentioned anything then either.

  18. Jenka says:

That’s weird! I’m also on a panel where I respond to surveys called NPR Listens. Maybe that’s why? I’ve been a member of NPR for, like, 15 years so the details are fuzzy.

  19. I’m just not as well-loved. 😉

If “A Prairie Home Companion” ever comes back to these parts please let me know the presale code. Thanks!

  20. Steve says:

Didn’t PHC go to Savannah, or is that coming up?

  21. I think that they went through Savannah earlier — of course I could be wrong about that.
