The End Of The Week Doesn’t Mean The End Of My Fun

This Friday brings new adventures.

Even though my blogs have been a bit short of late (Look! It’s happening again.) In case it hasn’t been evident, I’m packing my life full of adventures in an attempt to finally live life.

Hello Failure My Old Friend
I’ve been pushing myself hard lately, perhaps too hard. After winding up laundry yesterday I returned home to catch up on a little television and grab a nap before the Cracker show at The EARL.

I succeeded in watching Top Chef Masters as well as the two episodes of Hell’s Kitchen which were shown this week.

I also succeeded in taking a nap, which was the harbinger of my FAIL. I wound up waking up at 10pm with no intention of leaving the house. As much as I really wanted to see Cracker again the thought of getting up and going to a smoky The EARL, return home very late, and get up early today to head out of town again was just too much for this forty-four year old.

It’s all going to be alright.

ITP Flickr Pic
Believe it or not I didn’t shoot the DSLR once in Athens. I just felt continually rushed and never had the time to explore with my camera.
Coffee And Milkshake
Instead I took one shot post-concert at The Grill where I capped off my birthday with a cup of coffee and a chocolate milkshake.

And For My Next Trick — Pardon Me Boy, Is That The Chattanooga Choo-Choo?
After work I’m Chattanooga bound for a Chattanooga Lookouts baseball game. After much deliberation I’ve also decided to cash in 10,000 of my “frequent stayer” points tonight and spend the night in Chattanooga cost-free. W00t!

And For My Next Trick After That — If It’s Saturday Then It Will Be Nashville
From Chattanooga I will be headed to Nashville. Tomorrow night I’ll be headed to the Ryman Auditorium for the Neko Case show with Jason Lytle opening (thanks again, Vic).

I’m pleased to be headed back to Nashville, if even just for one day. I plan to explore the city a bit with my camera, and load up my car with some beer that I can’t purchase around here.

Stats & Goals

Here you go Paulie, there is a beerfest in Nashville tomorrow.

  2. Hahaha. If I go to a beer festival tomorrow there will be no chance in Hell that I’d make it to the concert. I can’t even be trusted to go to one when it’s virtually in my own back yard!

I’m glad that I no longer have to be a Fat Tire Sherpa on my Tennessee journeys. That leaves more trunk space and beer budget for other brands.

Btw- Does anyone know of a cool Chattanooga bar in which I can hang tonight?

  3. Barb says:

hey – saw this on the Colorado hash yahoo group this morning – we now know where we are going. It is just NW of Colorado Springs.

    14th Annual Colorado Invihashional
When: Friday, September 3 – Monday, September 6 2010 (Labor Day Weekend)
    Where: Woodland Park, CO
    Limited to 150 Hashers
    The best scenery around
    The best shiggy around

  4. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Cool! I paid for 2010 at the end of the 2008 Invihash so I will definitely be there. Who knows, I might do something crazy like take a long vacation and *drive* to Colorado.

  5. Barb says:

We ARE crazy, and we will be driving this year and next, and next….. Having our own bikes makes all the difference, and the amount of money spent on flights, car rental & bike rental, it really is cheaper. (Car Rental in Denver last week was crazy, $45/day was the cheapest I could find).
You just need to find some things to stop & see along the way. And – we have friends in Kansas City & St. Louis to stop & see, so maybe no hotels.

Chattanooga – go to Rock City & get a bird house? and, you better go seethe Chattanooga Choo Choo.
I remember a cool micro-brew bar “downtown” near the Aqaurium. Its been years, but I thought it was really good. No idea the name.

  6. Oh, I know that you and Allan have driven and frankly I’ve been quietly jealous. I *want* to drive out there next year. I also want to drive alone, I want to bring my (road) bike, I want to sleep in state parks (in the Jackmobile) and I want to take a bazillion detours and photograph each along the way.

I’ve seen Rock City, but purchased no bird house.

  7. Martha says:

I can’t imagine driving to CO, we were just discussing the Chicago trip and I don’t want to make that drive. I hate spending time in the car.

Speaking of cars (and really off topic) but I took the beast to Lam’s yesterday (though I dealt with Harry). The AC wasn’t working, I had problems with one turn signal and I needed an oil change. They had to replace the AC compressor (it had a big hole it it)….they did the oil change, fixed the signal (at no cost) and fixed a random dashboard light that I didn’t even tell them about, all for about $450.

For that sort of price I may even get the sunroof fixed soon. Now she just needs a bath, inside and out.

My dad was born in Chattanooga but I don’t know anything about the place, except I have to drive through to get to IN. Have a great weekend road trip. We are taking a trip to FDR Park tomorrow, a scouting trip for “Providence Canyon”.

  8. Barb says:

I understand about the detours – we drove thru Hot Springs, AR last year, a place I had always heard of, but never seen. We didn’t stop nearly enough, but I got to see some places I’d never get to if we had flown.

Everytime we are out in CO we say we want to ride the road bikes someday from Frisco to Vail to Frisco on the path that is near I-70. (or probably pay for a shuttle for one of the ways). Maybe we will load up both sets of bikes if you decide to drive & take yours.

  9. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Oh, I *love* to drive, even more so now that I have podcasts and audiobooks. Barb, I will drive next year and bring a bicycle. I’d bring my mountain bike, but CO mountains scare the crap out of me.

I may bring the Jackmobile in for “routine” maintenance soon. Out of necessity I just
had an oil change done at the Firestone next to my office,

  10. Barb says:

Podcasts & Audiobooks are the way to go. Allan’s mom spends a fortune buying books on CD, so Allan has decided to see if he can download some of them into I-tunes, so we can play them without dragging all the boxes of CDs. But – I might miss that, it was my job to load them into the CD player. We “read” 5 or 6 books last year on the roadtrip. Allan loves it because the books keep me quiet (or sleeping if I get bored) 😉

Martha – I used to hate any time over 3-4 hours in the car, but I’ve gotten cheaper in my old age. The cost of renting everything, and then not beign happy with the rental bike, well, it makes the roadtrip worth it. I wouldn’t want to spend time in the car after a marathon, and since you don’t need a car in Chicago, I would definately fly.

  11. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Although I found flying home the day after my one and only marathon no joy either. Of course you will be properly trained so you will most likely have no issues.

  12. Martha says:

Looking at my current running log, all bets are off on me being “properly trained”. I think trying to do this tri next month may have been a bad idea.

I was thinking it might be fun to stay a few extra days after the race. I won’t really be able to enjoy myself, I’ll be too wound up before the race. So I was thinking of flying in on Saturday and leaving late Tuesday…just need to wait and see.

Bringing the bikes would make a difference. I would have to at least consider driving. I usually drive when I go home as well, then I can leave when ever I like.

  13. sal says:

I’m just the opposite….I love road trips!!!! And I love to take all the back roads.

    Paulie: have fun this week-end.

I’ll be camping out at Fort Mountain….running the trails in preparation for the Mystery Mountain marathon and 12 miler in October….I’ll be voluteering, of course.

  14. Martha says:

I’m going to have to skip MMM this year, Sal any idea why the date was changed?

  15. Thanks Sal. You have fun as well. If my lack of running continues (and it sort of looks like it will) then I’ll toss my name in ring from some MMM volunteering.

  16. Date changed? Shows how much interest I’ve had in running, doesn’t it.

  17. Martha says:

last year it was the first weekend of Nov, this year it’s Oct 11. I can’t make it since it is the week before Chicago.

  18. What, you’ll have a week to recover. 😛

It is a Black Sheep Sunday. *Obviously* the organizer is no Black Sheep hasher.

  19. Martha says:

If I hadn’t been ‘challenged’ to beat a certain someone’s time (from 10 years ago, when he was only 28), I might be able to do it. I’m more scared of falling of the mountain and then not being able to run Chicago at all.

  20. Martha says:

Oh, funny side story, when I saw “Cracker” I thought of it.

My first puppy was named Cracker, at the time cracker was one of the few words I knew and my folks wanted me to be able to ‘call the dog’.

About a year ago, I’m signing up for an online account. One of the security questions was “what was the name of your first pet?”…Cracker of course. I got a message stating that no derogatory terms could be used.

  21. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

    Too funny.

I’m going to start an online service and one of the mandatory questions people will have to answer is “What is your favorite curse word?” And I will keep hounding them until they type in one of the biggies.

  22. Martha says:

Okay, HUGE DUH moment for me….the Chicago Marathon is Oct 11th (not the 19th), now there is no way I can do MMM.

Thank god I haven’t bought plane tickets yet.

  23. HAHAHAHA. It’s a very good thing you had yet to purchase tickets. Delta want $150 to change tickets these days, I’m sure the other airlines are just as greedy.

  24. Barb says:

Or, you could drive to B’ham & fly Southwest – I hear they still don’t charge change fees.

hey- now you could come up to Pisgah for wheelhopper & camping, its 2 weeks later.
