Another reason I am upgrading my iPhone this year, in addition to it being “old”, is that I am tired of doing the storage shuffle game in order to update the operating system. Starting sometime last year I never had enough free storage on my iPhone to download and install the latest iOS update, so I had to delete/offload apps, do the update, and then reinstall those apps. This happened again yesterday, and come Saturday I will feel relieved that it may never happen again.
Sadly yesterday I learned that my iPad Pro 10.5″ is not on the iPadOS update list, so it won’t receive the new OS. The budget currently doesn’t contain a line item for a new iPad, so I am just going to have to deal with this for a while.
On Tuesday I was “happy” to receive my Dekalb County property tax letter. Happy only in that the USPS delivered it, and I was the one who removed it from the mailbox. And then I opened it…
– I need to learn how to appeal my appraisal next year. No matter what you tell me, I find it hard to believe that someone would pay $430k for the ITP Estate.
– I know Cobb County gets this right, but at 59 years old and never sending a child to school, I think that I should be able to opt out of paying for schools. I’ve done more than my fair share, and the taxes I’m paying for schools this year consists of nearly half of my tax bill.
Weekend plans? None for me, well, other than getting my new iPhone.
Wordle: four, my starter was CRISP
Connections: fail, Blue > Yellow > X > X > X > X
I think we all will be glad when you get your new phone!!!! You would be surprised what people are paying to have a house in town. I saw a sign in my neighborhood that said for rent $2600.00. Who pays that kind of money these houses?
Everyone pays school taxes as the entire community benefits from having a better educated population. Citizens share the burden of supporting the community even services we may not use individually. However, I am glad I live in Cobb County and no longer pay that part of my property taxes. It took away a huge chunk.
Not sure of week-end plans other than riding on Saturday. I would love to do the Century but I still have Rocco and can’t leave him alone for that long. The hash is in Hartwell so I won’t be doing that.
Wordle in 6 starting with PARTY. Connections: B, Y, X, X, G, P. Strands was hard for me.
I think 25 years of footing a bill that I have never used should be sufficient. I suppose that I always have the option to sell and move to a place with much less need to drain its citizens of their money. Perhaps I’m just bitter. 😉
It should only be a few years more, there is a cutoff in DeKalb County for seniors (sorry) where they can stop paying school taxes. I am not sure what the exact age is.
Oh well. When I owned my house in OP, child-free, I never minded paying the taxes because that was the price I paid for making the neighborhood a safer place to live. Good schools make good communities.
It used to be in EAV/OP/GP that you’d see a pink or blue ballon on the mailbox announcing “It’s a boy!” and then the next thing you’d see was the ReMax sign and they moved out to the ‘burbs where the schools were better.
Maybe if it wasn’t nearly 50% of my property taxes? And it’s not an insignificant amount for my current financial position. At least the other 50% relate to services I use.
Wordle in 4. My third guess, with only yellow one letter got 4 out of 5 green. Luck, you may say, but I say SKILL (not the word).
Already back from taking Debbie to a friends so they can carpool to the airport for their girls trip to Niagara Falls. Rox’s sister lives nearby, so they have a place. Taking a cruise on the Erie Canal tonight, which sounds cool to me.
The Mazda 3 may be going to a new home. One of my volunteers for the Games is a nice guy, but has the worst luck. I don’t know how much is self-inflicted, but none of his current vehicles have either heat or AC. The Mazda has that in spades, so I offered it to him for a buck. That, or some charity sends it to the crusher…
Thinking of you, Barb. I hope today is filled with great memories and lots of love.

“None of his current vehicles” means that he his “bad luck” is most definitely self inflicted. At least you get rid of the old car.
no doubt, but I still feel bad for him.
Thank goodness it’s Friday, what a week. Although I should count my blessings because next week is going to be a haul.
My dad has been up at my cabin since he left my house a couple of weeks ago, so I’m headed up there with Ralphie for the night. Kevin will stay home. Tomorrow we have tickets to see Brett Goldstein at the Fox, whom you will know as Roy Kent from Ted Lasso.
Good luck, and enjoy the show.
If I was home I’d love to see Brett
I pulled the trigger, I’ll be there!
Woot! I’ll look for you!
Forgot that the Jets and Patriots played last night. Just saw the final score, kinda wish I had remembered. Oh well, probably would have gotten annoyed by the number of commercials and turned it off anyway.
It was on Amazon Prime- you could have watched
True, except I forgot that they were playing so I didn’t.
It was HEARTBREAKING. I went to bed at half time.
Sorry Jenka
I’m not sorry. Patriot fans have lived the Life of Riley in the 2000s. 😛
I learned the hard way that the Jets were playing last night. Debbie and I stopped in at Six Feet Under to have a beer since my daughter was working. Some assholes at the bar were shouting “FUCK THE JETS” at beyond the top of their lungs. I mean, they must have had a megaphone or something. I think the manager finally calmed that shit down, I was getting ready to head for the hills.
I may well make an appearance at the Brett Goldstein show tomorrow night. I’m definitely thinking about it.
I made a CHARM appointment for next Tuesday. Most of my possessions are presently in a 10 x 10 storage unit, and given that I’ve lived without most of them for 2 months now, I’m starting to look seriously askance at the remaining 20% of my possessions that didn’t get put on the curb or dumpster in my final days of living in Grant Park. A further winnow is definitely in order.
Dad is dressed, now I need to get dressed.
Leaving for the church in 15 ish minutes.
Wondering who of my parents friends are still alive & able to attend.
Best of luck to you.
Sending strength, Barb.
Best of luck Barb, hope all goes smoothly.
Noticing an increase in bird activity on my deck, where there is water which can be used for drinking or bathing. I guess migrations are underway?
I’m with you on taxes, I don’t mind paying my fair share (not just for kids but for everything) but watching the government waste annoys the hell out of me.
I finally rode my bike last night, I have been in a slump and have not prioritized riding. It felt good to get back out there. Not far or fast but I rode and jumped off some stuff so it made me feel good.
I have an adventure brewing involving motorcycles, hope I can connect all the dots and make it happen. There are a lot of dots 🙂
Hello from 30,000 feet over the mid Atlantic region. A rare day that I can check in with ITP before late afternoon.
I think I’m going to have to pull the trigger on a new iPhone too. My 11 is tired and not holding a charge anymore. I’m also running into the same storage issues. I hate how stupid expensive they are though!
Looking forward to a fun weekend. It’s a quick trip, but knocking Niagara Falls off the bucket list will be worth it. I got my passport renewed in adequate time to be sure to see it from both sides. Next up is renewing TSA precheck. The line wasn’t too bad this morning, but I’d rather keep my shoes on.
Thinking of you this morning Barb. I hope it’s a lovely service for your mom.
Wordle in 3! Starting with MOUNT.
Hello from the ground!
That expensive phone is helping live the life I do. 🙂 And if I didn’t have to pay school taxes I could buy two more this year.
Omg Steve, (& Debbie) – the flowers are beautiful.
Thank you
Yeah!!!! It was flowers or me showing up- and I did try and find a way, but DAMN those flights are expensive…
