I am worn out. Upon leaving work tonight I’m shutting my brain down until Monday. If you see me around, please don’t ask me any complex math problems. And if you do decided to pepper me with complex problems be prepared for the deer-in-the-headlights stare that will be present upon my face.
Sometimes It Works For Me, And Some Time It Doesn’t
After finally finding a parking place in Little 5 Points last night I headed into Variety Playhouse for the Neko Case show. The show was sold out and last night’s humidity didn’t help my comfort level inside the building.
Sometimes shows pull me in and I feel like I am the only one in the building. and sometimes they don’t and I wonder why I am there.
I’ve seen Neko Case before and I knew what I was in for — a great night of music listening but nothing that would move me to the point that I felt I was going to miss something huge by leaving early, so I did. I lasted about six songs before my comfort level sank to the point where all I could think about was getting home early enough to do a few things before going to bed. From what I saw and heard it was a good show, however I think I made the right decision.
RealiTV : Maybe NBC Was Right About “The Chopping Block”
I am always confused when a broadcasting network cancels a program mid-way through its run, especially when it’s a “reality” show. After watching the latest The Chopping Block I think I understand NBC’s decision.
While I really liked the first few episodes it is becoming clear that the format is stale. I think that Marco Pierre White is a good television host and from his past accomplishments is probably one hell of a chef. However, the contestants he was saddled with on The Chopping Block just made the show a dud.
And after saying all of that, I will continue to watch the show to the end on Hulu. I want to know who “wins.”

One Well-Seasoned Cast Iron Skillet + Two Chicken Breasts Seasoned With (Salt+Pepper) + A Smidgen Of Bacon Fat = One Delicious Dinner
If there is one thing my faulty plumbing has taught me it is the beauty of minimalistic cooking. The fewer pans and utensils I dirty, the less water goes into the sink. Some dishes can be constructed using only “disposable” cookware, but many times that is not the case.
The other night I took my gigantic, and now well-seasoned, cast iron skillet and put it over flame to heat thoroughly. To the heated pan I plopped in some bacon fat (now conveniently on-hand in my refrigerator) and then carefully added two room-temperature chicken breasts. Once in the pan I added some salt and pepper to each breast. In a very short time I had two perfectly-cooked, moist, breasts each with a browned exterior for added flavor.
Simple. Deliciously simple.

It appears that I have shut my brain down already! I completely forgot a huge “news” story that I heard about yesterday.
New Belgium Brewery will begin distributing in Georgia soon!
I believe distribution will begin in May and as with Tennessee and North Carolina, Georgia is scheduled to get Fat Tire, Mothership Wit, and 1554.
This would have made an awesome fake April Fools joke the other day. Wish I had heard about it then.
You need to get to George’s more, PE and Little Easy have been talking about Fat Tire coming to Georgia for a couple of months.
I knew it was only a matter of time, but I haven’t been scouring sources for a date since I still have some in stock since my last trip to Raleigh.
I wish they’d get us some Blue Paddle or Sunshine Wheat……
I think they are delivering their “biggest” flavors.
In other news, I am going to Denver in early May and I was going to extend my visit so that I could spend a few days in Fort Collins. Unfortunately since I am going out for a convention the travel agency was unable to work with me to change my travel plans. Dangen!
I’ll be in Colorado mid July, and for Labor Day for Invihash. We will be driving to Invihash, so if by then you need some of the “other” flavors, we might be able to fit a case or 10 in the back.
but – just a note to everyone, this beer does go bad (it won’t last forever like a budwiser), so having a big stash is a good & bad thing. I had to dump out a Sunshine Wheat just the other day. it was so depressing.
What is this “storage” of which you speak? 🙂

We have plenty at all times in the house. At least beer is a smaller per ticket price.
Barb I just shed a few tears….so sad. I’m not sure beer has ever gone bad at my place. I’m hoping to clear out some back stock this weekend.
BTW everyone – it is Party like a Parrothead Rock Star weekend – let’s hope I survive, I’m way out of practice – hanging with my rum & margarita drinking friends may kill me. (no Buffett concert involved either, just a tribute band or two, and lots of other beach types of music)

Sunday’s low is supposed to be 45. It’s the start of a short cold-front that is supposed to take us back into the low 30’s for a few nights.
Right now I only care about the weekend. I need it to be dry and sunny so 1) I can get outside and run, I haven’t done much of anything since Sunday, I’m feeling like a slug and 2) so I can get the damn puppies outside and burn off some energy. I just want Toby to have a little peace during his last couple of days.
