As predicted by NO ONE, water fell from the sky this morning! If I had any warning I would have brought in the seed pods I was drying, and put out some pans to capture rainfall.

Though I have lived in the ITP Estate for twenty-five years it still reveals mysteries. On Saturday I decided to do some cleanup and reorganizing of my utility room and found a pamphlet from a memorial from forty years ago. The pamphlet was stuck behind the boxes of linoleum tiles which were left behind by the previous owners.

Here is the eulogy from the pamphlet.

LISTON MAX SMITH was born to Jane E. Johannes and the late Herman Smith, on June 6, 1954, in St. Thomas. Known affectionately as ‘Mac’ to his family and many friends, Liston grew up in Coral Bay, St. John.

He completed his early education at the Guy H. Benjamin Elementary School in Coral Bay,
and at the Julius E. Sprayer Jr High in Cruz Bay. He attended the Nazareth Bay High School, presently I. Eudora Kean, and graduated in 1974. Desiring more education, Liston started his formal education at the College of the Virgin Islands. He later transferred to Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida. Graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in math and physics, Liston ventured on to the world of employment.

Making his contribution to society, Liston taught at Jacksonville Jr High for several years. He then moved on to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS), working a total of 5 years, first in Jacksonville and later in Miami, before his untimely death.

Liston believed in his God. He was baptized, confirmed, and a devoted member of the Moravian faith. He enjoyed music, played the trombone and was a member of the Edward Waters Gospel Singers. And, somewhere in the halls of Heaven, Liston is either singing or playing to the audience of Him on High.

He (Liston) will be remembered by each of us in our own special way, but for those of us who got to know him, he will be remembered most for bringing a smile to our face and laughter to our lives.

Though the journey be one that you must make alone, our memories and prayers are full of you.

WE LOVE YOU, LISTON!!!

Rest, and may God bless you.

    Wordle in 5.

A long boring weekend of being sick. Started feeling better yesterday, but still haven’t beaten it, and now Debbie is a carrier.

We typically don’t see many deer here, unlike JEFDSDR, where they were common. I went to reset the hotspot, which sits in a front window of the spare bedroom and 4 of them are chowing down on the little peach tree in the front yard. It’s been buckling with the weight of all the little, ping pong ball sized peaches. I scared them, I suppose, but not until they took a lap around the house, through the back pasture, and away.

    • Continue better health to you two.

Fortunately deer are one of the few vegetation predators that don’t visit WLF. It’s not that they couldn’t hop my fences, it’s that they have a hard time crossing the busy streets, even with the proliferation of “all way” stops.

bummer you aren’t feeling well Steve (& Debbie)

Wordle in 4. Connections: yellow, blue, purple, green. Getting ready to head to Kennesaw for a run with a friend. Off today. Worked on Saturday. Ventured up to Amicalola Falls on Sunday.

Poor Liston. He didn’t live very long.

  3. Forgot to mention that on Friday I drove up to Schoolhouse Brewing in Marietta, where I had a few beers with Hank, and then joined Sal, Barb, and Allan. I ordered a delicious pizza from the food truck “Paulie’s Pizza”, which unfortunately had no signage on their truck, otherwise I would have included a photo of it today.

I found a huge file of those funeral pamphlets in the file cabinet at my parents – I did not read thru them – there were so many.

    busy enough weekend –
beer & pizza at Schoolhouse Friday.
Saturday a long around the neighborhood – to a friends house to water plants, to a Truist ATM to get cash, a stop at Kroger for some rye bread, then Waffle House for breakfast & then finally back home. 6.36 miles my watch told me.
Off to Breaststroke’s for some pool time in the hot afternoon.
Dinner with Kevin (& Donna) at Il Giallo – sitting at the bar with Sharon the bartender is always a great time & meal.

Sunday I ventured to Powder Springs for a short hike to go see the abandoned monorail, to another park in Austell to see a rock called Frog Rock (it really only sort of looked like a frog) stopped at Reformation (Smyrna) for a beer, then more pool time at Donna’s.

    A pretty good weekend.

I have returned from my travels! Got home Saturday mid-afternoon. We hadn’t had a decent meal in two days so we went to Rathbun Steak for dinner as soon as they opened. Yesterday I did nothing all day long, Kevin went and picked up Finn and we ordered greasy Chinese for dinner. Today I’m in the office for one day and tomorrow I fly out to Denver for a work conference.

I gotta say, it was hard to qualify Cincinnati because it was so hot we stayed inside the hotel until game time. The Great American Ballpark it was not — we had club tickets and the club was further away from our seats than the regular grills up on the concourse. I had a brat that was the worst brat I’ve ever eaten, I did not finish it. Then it was so ridiculously hot that we only managed to last half the game. Hopped in a Lyft and watched the rest of the game at the hotel bar. I understand that if the weather had been better we would’ve had a better experience, but with 20 more stadiums to go on the list and other places to travel to, I just don’t see us going back there.

    • Barb says:

I can see that – I’ve only been to Cincy for Allan’s grandparents funerals – so those were all family stuff & never really saw much of the city.

      • Jenka says:

Kevin really didn’t like it, I think he would absolutely veto any suggestion of a return trip.

  6. Barb says:

Quick trip to Aldi – no 50% off deals on monday – I guess they have enough shoppers over the weekend that nothing is close to sell by dates.

BTW Paulie – Wheelhopper was down around your ‘hood Sunday – if you see any flour.

  7. Barb says:

hey – and we got a little rain this morning too – I don’t have to go water the veggies!

  8. Barb says:

    green – yellow – purple (total guess) – blue – I didn’t fail!!

  9. Bob says:

Pretty good weekend, Saturday did another onewheel ride up to Amerisbank amphitheater to listen to Joan Jett open for Alanis Morrisette.
Sunday was Wheelhopper and it was a shit show. Gina decided to lay it live and have 3 beer stops. She was using a water bottle filled with flour so the marks were barely visible. The pack got totally lost and thankfully we knew where the first stop was so we just went there. Gina was about dead when we got there, totally overheated. Thankfully Will You Suck was there on his electric bike and threw flour to the second stop. Third stop was in a park where Gina stashed a cooler and when we got there the cooler was gone so somebody enjoyed some free beer 🙂 Got back to the cars around 4:30 and hung out for too long, didn’t get home until almost 8. Fun but long day.
Not sure what this week has in store since the temps will be close to 100 just about every day. Bowling Wednesday, US Men’s soccer Thursday and leaving for Orlando Friday, so I guess sort of a busy week.

  10. The assault on my tomatoes has begun. I found four large tomatoes today with chunks taken from each. I hate motherfucking thieving critters!

  11. Barb says:

ran out to grab a slice of pizza & a salad from this little place nearby.
There’s a Dash Mart next door.
I asked Davey – he almost never sees any orders from that place.
Well – we saw 2 people go in & get their bogs of stuff.
(so, they aren’t very busy – hard to believe its even a thing)
I don’t Door Dash – but I guess its short of like a convenience store?

    • First I have heard of Dash Mart. Not surprising, since I’ve not used a delivery service since 2020? I just don’t find the service worth the cost.

      • Speaking of services. I think I’m one day away from getting screwed by Upside again. My 9% cash back from a trip to Wrecking Bar on June 15th is still “processing”. If Upside fails me again I think I will delete the app from my phone because I’m tired of them not fulfilling their end of the agreement.

        • Barb says:

i really don’t worry about it – it just sits there until its above $20 & then I get an Amazon card.
If something doesn’t work, I don’t lose sleep.
I’ve had a couple gas stations ones take forever, or not work at all.

          • I don’t worry, but I do get angry when they advertise a discount and don’t fulfill it. Dish seems to be able to do their discounts in minutes, I don’t understand why it takes Upside days for them, or they completely fail.

        • Barb says:

Seated is a MUCH better deal – use it once (with my code) so I get the bonus. & you will get a bonus too

          • I will. Wrecking Bar is on Seated and I am contemplating going there to get lunch or dinner next week.

          • Barb says:

I double dip whenever possible – if you ever want to go to Kennesaw- Anchor Bar almost makes the meal 1/2 price sometimes – usually at least 20% on Seated (21% & 17% on Upside today)

          • That’s the thing about Upside though, I can’t be assured that they will fulfill their agreement. So if I go somewhere based on their offer and they don’t, I get really aggravated.

          • Barb says:

its annoying, but less annoying when you at least get 1 of 2 to pay.
