Only rain and hip pain could have shortened my BRAG Spring Tune Up weekend, and it was the former that did so. Friday’s 69 mile ride was brutal, in part due to two nonexistent rest stops, and I because suffered some saddle sores and foot pain; I believe the saddle sores arose from the wetness in which we rode which lessened the effectiveness of the chamois cream I used. Saturday’s 48 miles were tough, but a beer and wings stop forty miles in provided some recuperation. I saw Sunday’s weather forecast and decided to pack up everything Saturday night and sleep in the M6 so I could be there for Bob’s Breakfast Sandwiches yesterday morning. That plan ended at about 1:30am when I woke up as it started raining and watched two cars leave. At that time I knew my sleep would be horrible, and the roads would most likely be open, so I drove home.

Overall the trip was a hoot. There was much beer consumption and laughter. Let the mental and physical preparation for Big BRAG begin!

The combination of arriving home around 2:30am and a cold, dank, wet day meant that I did very little yesterday except for emptying the car and putting away camping gear.

Hooray, this morning I finally was able to set up my bank accounts so I can electronically transfer money between them. Whew, this needed to happen soon. Now I need to figure out how I can replace the $20/month earnings I lost last week when Crowdtap unceremoniously cancelled my account.

I am using this cool morning to bake a breakfast casserole.

    Kudos on the mileage!

Quiet weekend for me, I mostly laid low, which I needed.

I have an unfortunate new Wordle streak going of 2 consecutive fails, which replaced a 31 day streak. Oh well. Both days I got trapped in the gutter with a single missing letter and too many matches to choose from.

Clean Connections today, purple was first. WTF on Strands, I have no idea. I’m letting it percolate and might use a hint.

    • Thanks.

I had to get a hint today in Strands in order to get the gist.

After picking it up and setting it down a few times, the “spanagram” materialized (I hate that fucking portmanteau), and from there I still had somewhat what of a death march, but I prevailed in the end with no hints.

Wordle in 2! A good day for my starter word…

I’m so glad you had a good time at STU. I don’t blame you at all for bailing on the rain. We had 2 inches when I got up Sunday morning and I thought of all y’all.

24 miles Friday on the gravel bike. Returned on 27-Alt and the DOT has just cut new rumble strips on the white line. Won’t be using that again during the week at least- lots of trucks.

Saturday was the big Newnan race and it was big time. We were a hand short, so I was doing double duty as pit ref as well as chief. One bad crash in the last lap of the pro race and I have to do the paperwork and it will be done.

Yesterday, we “rebuilt” the barn to have one more actual stall. Somehow, we’ve lost the hinge pins for the gate. After picking up possible replacements at Tractor Supply, I Just couldn’t modify them enough to make them usable. $24 flushed…

Trying to wrap up today and prepare for a 06:45 departure to Gila tomorrow. yippee.

  3. Another day where comment mail is delayed, so if I don’t respond in a timely manner…

I thought I was going good getting Wordle in 3 starting with FIRST…but then I see y’all got in 2. Connections was an easy one today. Purple, Yellow, Blue, Green. I had to use a lot of hints to get STRANDS.

STU was fun as always. Bob’s breakfast sandwiches and Stan’s hash browns were even better in the rain! I love hanging out with the crew all week-end. The late night chats are the best laughter. It’s always a let down when I get home. Looking forward to big BRAG!

So glad you all had fun at STU! Sounds like Paulie made the right call leaving in the rain. Like Steve, I woke up yesterday morning listening to the rain and thought of you all. Well, I knew Barb and Bob would be just fine. 🙂

The big gala went off without a hitch on Friday! My speech was short and sweet and, most importantly, everyone laughed at my jokes. Saturday we did some errands and had lunch at the General Muir, but otherwise I laid low. Sunday we went to see Phil Rosenthal from Somebody Feed Phil at the Tabernacle, and we had dunch/lupper beforehand at McCormick & Schmick. We looooooove Somebody Feed Phil and he was just like that in real life.

Back to work again. My boss is here today but out most of the week so I will get to WFH two days! Yee haw!

    • Steve says:

I watch “Somebody Feed Phil” while I ride my trainer. Not sure what the show was you saw- an interview?? I’m unfamiliar with his work other than SFP.

      • Jenka says:

It was all about Somebody Feed Phil. A local broadcaster did sort of a very loose interview-type conversation with Phil for about an hour, and then the second hour (or longer) were questions from the audience. The audience had a LOT of questions. We left after about 45 minutes of questions because a lot of them were pretty dumb; and also it is our practice to leave slightly early to get ahead of the crowd.

  6. Bob says:

How is your hip doing now after 2 days of riding? Hopefully you are BRAG ready.

STU was fun as always, I did 40 and 47 miles and my legs held up well. I have some work to do before BRAG but confident I will get there. We also solidified our RAGBRAI team for July. That has been a bucket list ride for me so really looking forward to it. The bus ride to the start will be highly entertaining. Sally is very worried though 🙂
Sunday morning packing up was rough but not horrible, just rain and not cold or wind so just annoying. Worst part for me was I had a trailer light burn out and when I tried to take the bulb out it broke stabbing my thumb and finger with the broken glass. My thumb bled all the way from Rutledge to home so I had to drive one handed while squeezing a paper towel to try and stop it. All good though, got the bulb replaced and camper is cleaned up and ready for the next trip

    • Barb says:

bummer we left before you needed medical attention – you know Allan has ALL TEH SUPPLIES needed for that sort of thing.

    • The hip is fair. I can still feel pain, but am somewhat heartened that it doesn’t hurt while riding. Hopefully I will continue to improve in all realms of my life before June arrives.

  7. Barb says:

work is crazy busy this morning

Weekend was fun – cleaning up almost everything Friday night made getting out of there in the rain so much easier.

rode 30 on Friday – then 38+ – lets call it 39 on Saturday.
Wings place was overwhelmed with 17 of us – we picked up a random girl on the ride to join us. I also now have a new FB friend (Sarah). She doesn’t have a mtn bike – or we’d make her come to Wheelhopper. She does have a gravel bike – I’m going to send her the Spring dress info for this weekend

  8. Out assessing the State of WLF and doing some planting / transplanting. I intend to grow struff, even if I miss the dates for harvesting.

    • David says:

I finally managed to get the plants I bought last weekend into the ground. I now have flowers in pots on my patio, along with grape/cherry tomatoes, sage, thyme, and basil. With apologies to Paul Simon, I perenniallyhave rosemary in the front yard, and I don’t have any parsley. I also repotted a fern/some other plant combo. The fern was so root bound that I had to use my shovel to bash into the “decorative” pot that the fern came in. It felt good to use my left hand today, I think I’ve been being too cautious and prolonging the pain. It feels like tendonitis between my index finger and thumb. It does abate a little each day.
