Not much going on today. I was going to rant about land development in Atlanta, but that’s as useful as yelling at clouds.
Hoping to ride again tonight. I’d like to keep up my momentum. Who knows, I might shed one pound prior to BRAG STU next month.
Wordle: two, my starter was GRIND
Connections: perfect, Green > Yellow > Purple > Blue
Strands: one miss, mostly because I have an issue with one of the answers
With apologies to the 60’s band The Angels, “hey-la-day-la, my brain is back.” The malaise I’ve been amidst started to lift yesterday afternoon. My knees have been sucking all of the air out of the room. Between ibuprofen, a massage gun, and epsom salt baths the tide has finally turned. To quote Mick Jagger, “Thank you, Jesus, thank you Lord.”
I booked a flight to Cincinnati on April 8 with Lucas to meet my brother in the path of totality for the eclipse. I also bought Peachtree Road Race numbers for Rachel and me. I sure miss the days of spending $20 on the race instead of a multiple of that number. Rachel wants to run it and so we shall. I won’t call what I’ll be doing running but I’ll he on the course.
Apparently if you start Wordle at 11:58 PM but don’t finish before midnight it doesn’t count toward a streak. Fuckers. Today’s Wordle in 4, I was robbed as I has 4 correct letters in 3 starting with FAIRY.
Clean Connections, and I smoked through Strands in under a minute.
You are taking life by the balls and giving them a good tug, my friend. Well done.
Well, that is certainly one way to put it… 🙂
Calls ‘em as I sees ‘em. 😉
I think I’m the only one who doesn’t even notice the streak part of Wordle. But – I play it on my work computer, or my phone, or my iPad, so it won’t ever happen.
We talked about doing something for the eclipse, but haven’t made any plans, so I’m guessing we won’t be. Plus we don’t have any glasses.
I’m one of the rare people ambivalent about the eclipse, and would never consider traveling to see it. I was in Raleigh for the last one, when the path of fullness (or whatever that’s called) was north Georgia.
Same. While I recognize the cool science aspect of an eclipse, I would never go out of my way to see it.
You are not the only one, Barb, I don’t even notice the streak either. But not only do I use all different devices, I almost never play Wordle two days together.
My Wordle streaks tend to be a barometer of how smoothly life is or isn’t going for me. I’m 11 days behind on the daily NYT Crossword (and who knows how far on the Mini). I was either too busy in California or too tired. Once my knees started stealing the show on me I had to just hunker down and get through my days as best I could, which again meant no energy for Word games.
I don’t normally care about astronomy events, but I took my kids to see the total eclipse in North Georgia in 2017, and it was flat out amazing. So much so that back then I set an intention to see it again this year. I didn’t have Cincinnati on my radar as my location, but that’s where the cheapest flights are at the moment, and I can drive an hour north and be right in the center of the path. My brother hasn’t seen an eclipse and I definitely want him to experience it.
Barb, I might have extra eclipse glasses. I need to look for my brother anyway, I’ll give you first right of refusal on any extras that I find.
Thanks David – Allan said we might have some, but we need to search. We have a few weeks to look.
We went to Murphy for the eclipse in 2017, it was a very cool experience. It was also a huge campout/party so that made it even more fun.
We drove to BFE South Carolina for the last one and it was really worth the trip. We thought about trying to get to this years, but flights and rental cars were over the top. Still haven’t ruled it out, but now Debbie is working Mondays…
This is why I’m going to Cincinnati. Airfares were nutty elsewhere. I’m using miles/points for the tickets and hotel, and although I’ll believe this when I see it, I have an Audi, BMW, or equivalent rented for the day for less than $100. There’s a Doubletree Hotel at the Cincinnati airport where we’ll stay because I don’t want to navigate eclipse traffic in time to get back for a flight. We’re returning on the 6:00 AM flight Tuesday morning. This year the total blackout portion of the eclipse is supposed to last twice as long (4 minutes instead of two), and the next one won’t be for 20 years, so I’m seizing the moment.
Glad you’re back with us David!
Not much to report. I did manage to cut my grass and do laundry yesterday. Going to be another beautiful day, unfortunately I have to work and then work the evening as we are hosting a ladies’ night.
Wordle in 5 starting with YOURS. I just could not see the dang word. Not sure how you got it in two with your starting word. Same as you on Connectons. green, yellow, purple, blue. One hint on Strands to get me started. 🙂
I struggled to get an appropriate second guess given the knowledge I gleaned from my first guess. I finally came up with a word, and then immediately thought of the word I played, because I felt it was more “Wordley” than the first one. lol
Thanks, Sal! I didn’t have much choice but to drop out and hunker down, and in retrospect I’m glad I did, because that’s what was needed.
It was my intention to treat myself to lunch at Red’s Beer Garden today, walking there after returning home from a CHaRM appointment. Well, seems as if Red’s opens at 4pm, so that plan was squashed. Instead I just finished a huge breakfast of cheese grits with breakfast “sausage”.
Wordle in 2 as well! My word was AISLE!
Yesterday’s stress test was almost like “American Flyers”, except for the cheering crowds, and the nurse stopped the test when they had seen enough, not when I was done- though I doubted I could have gone much longer. No issues whatsoever, so we’re kinda back to square one.
I spilled the beans on FB and had lots of comments and well wishes. A couple folks messaged me directly with suggestions- all very appreciated. It’s nice having friends that are concerned about me.
Dinner out with Games crew to discuss changes in staffing- we’re going to un-invite a long time volunteer who’s a nice guy and also a PITA.
-FP
Steve- hope you figure it out.
It’s no fun not knowing.
Well, I qualify as one of those two — hint: I’m not a long time volunteer of the Games.
It’s just been brought to my attention that today is the sixteenth anniversary of the downtown Atlanta tornado, the same that passed within a quarter mile of the ITP Estate.
Within half a mile from my OP house and dropped a big tree limb in my roof!
We were home when the tornado blew through. It came within a mile. A friend called us that night and asked if we were OK. We were baffled, um, yes, thank you, we’re good. The next morning I turned on CNN (back when I watched far more TV than I do these days) and about swallowed my tongue when they reported that a tornado had blown through downtown Atlanta. I mean, we knew it was a bad storm, but we had no idea how bad.
Former ITP-Commenter (Reader?) Martha Screw It called me as it was passing and I was staring out the window marveling at the wind, wondering how much of the dying pine tree it would take down.
I was on the patio at Cantina La Casita when it came through EAV, that was an EXPERIENCE. The friends I was with lived in midtown and it took them two hours to get home because so many roads were blocked with downed trees and detritus.
Wordle in 3, no matching Paulie today.
Connections green & yellow – then could not see it, so I just wasted the guesses to see what the answers were.
Heading up to hike to the Hike Inn in a few hours. Today looks gorgeous, tomorrow might be rainy. Trying to figure out how cool it will be tonight, what jacket to bring.
Enjoy your stay, Barb.
You guys are living large, Barb! I’ll be somewhat in that vicinity on Saturday, I’m meeting one of my high school friends at Fort Mountain State Park. We had planned to do the 9 mile Gahuti Backcountry trail, but I think that is completely aspirational at this point. I think we’ll cobble together a series of shorter hikes so that I can be mindful of my still recovering knees.
Enjoy the park! One of my favs.
Yes, mine too. I want to show the overlook to my friend. Hoping for a good hawk day. I’ll never ever get tired of being eye level with hawks there.
I am not travelling this weekend!
Busy as hell but staying close to home. Tennis last night, ramble tonight, bowling Friday night, my social calendar is packed 🙂
I’m home for 2 weekends until our trip to Key West. We are driving to Fort Myers and taking the Key West shuttle. Barb, any tips for taking the boat to KW? We will be there for 4 days, looking forward to some chill time.
Bob- get on the boat early to get a good spot.
There’s a movie running subtitles, I don’t know if there’s a way to get sound.
Maybe a deck of cards ? We all read books when we weren’t chatting.
Sneak in snacks, or buy from them.
Where are you staying? We just walked 4 blocks or so to our hotel.
There is zero need for a car in Key West.
Thanks for the tip!
We are staying in an air bnb a few blocks from the dock. Gonna do some history stuff, snorkeling excursion, and some beach time. I figured we wouldn’t need a car, just uber or walk wherever we need to go.
You can rent bikes really cheap and that’s an excellent way to get around. This is the company I used in January, they were EXCELLENT:
https://www.eatonbikes.com/
Thanks Jenka! This is a great idea!
Yeah, you didn’t need a car 25 years ago, though we rented scooters back then.
If you like cats, the six-toed cats at Hemingway’s former house are fun to visit.
Key West? Joining your nephew for his honeymoon? 🙂
Dang Bob…you’re going everywhere!! Nothing for me until STU.
I’ll be in Florida for business and pleasure, but nowhere else prior to STU.
I hear ya, good thing I get 6 weeks of PTO 🙂
Only 6 weeks….. so awful.
What do you work for the Fed? 🙂
I know, you have toiled for your company for many years. *high five*
Waitaminute – I’ll be in Fort Myers later this month, when will you be there? I’m going March 22-24.
I’ll be in Fort Myers the next weekend, driving down the 31st.
CHaRM trip a breeze, back already.
Planted radish seeds in hopes they will grow while I am away. Was hands deep into a bag of cow manure, who says farming isn’t glamorous?
I just did ten exhausting minutes of the same manual labor I did in 2020. I now realize why I lost weight, and have no clue how I was able to work that hard for hours.
Ugh, sitting in this chair I must look away from the belly bulge I have brought back to myself. #shame_on_me
