Good morning. Expect radio silence again today, I’m (finally?) heading back to Atlanta.
It was a lovely weekend in Raleigh, hanging out with friends. Not even the inability of any of my favorite sporting teams to win their respective games could taint the weekend.
Amazon continues to work in mysterious ways that aggravate me. Over the weekend I put items on my Wish List that were labeled as “Cyber Monday Deals”. I returned this morning, on the fictitious “Cyber Monday”, to find most of the items no longer on sale. Fuckers! I guess the positive takeaways from that is that I am spending less money and possessing fewer things.
Hope you all had a spectacular weekend. I’ll check in from the road occasionally.
Wordle: five, my starter was EARLY
Connections: perfect, Yellow > Blue > Green > Purple
Wordle in 3! Connections perfect.
Friday was finish off the tree and light it up! The biggest pieces are sitting along the fence while one became a jump. The rest burned nicely over several hours. There were still coals glowing Saturday night when I hit the hot tub.
Into the office Saturday to test the gear that was built to take to Newark tomorrow- fail! On the PC support folks to get it working so I can swoop in and pick it up later today. A run/walk and little else Saturday.
Sunday, Debbie was getting ready to ride and noticed part of the fence had been undone and CL was injured. I spent a couple hours cobbling on an additional piece of fence and securing it as best I could. It’s some of MY work (not the pro’s) that really needs to be redone, but that wasn’t happening in the rain.
30 steady minutes on the trainer while watching CX.
Safe travels, radio silent boy.

Safe Travels Wee. Wordle in 4 using FIRST. Perfect Connections in order, green, yellow, blue, purple.
Schools back in session. Mia and Emma been barking non stop this morning.
Hope Wheelhopper was fun Bob.
I worked on Saturday. It was crazy busy and chaotic. Small Business Saturday. Everything in the store was 15% off.
Ran the Second Helpings 1/2 marathon Sunday morning. Worked in the afternoon.
Sal, the pics from the Second Helping looked a bit like a hash. They gave you a map and said good luck?
Kind of like a hash/adventure run. It’s a solo, self supported, self reported event. You could start anytime after midnight on Thursday to Midnight on Sunday. When finished, you send a screenshot of your completed map and time. It had to be elapsed time, not moving time. In other words, no stopping your watch for trying to decipher the route’s arcane byways, stopping for beers, going off course or because you’re hopelessly lost. You are given a cue sheet and map. 80 some turns this year. Janice and I had fun doing it. We got turned around on the trails in one of the parks. Instructions like don’t cross the bridge, don’t turn left, go straight at the big birch tree….that’s what got me….I didn’t see any birch tree. There was a giant BEECH tree……
Birch, beech, tomato, tomatoh!
Sounds like a hoot.
And we found a body face down in the park on top of a bridge. His wallet was laying next to him….couldn’t tell if he was dead or alive. Didn’t want to touch him in case he was on drugs…never know how they may react. We thought we saw his back moving some. But we did flag down a police officer and told him about it. He said he would call 911 and get someone to check on him.
Yikes, Sally!
where did you see that guy? What park?
(welcome to Allan’s world of 911 calls)
Back to the salt mine. I’m basing out of Joe’s today. The barrista did me a solid by serving my Americano in a mug that says “You Rock. ” Thank you, I needed that.
Out of necessity I have upped my game against my parent’s charm offensive (and boy howdy is it offensive to me). AT&T has an app called Active Armor that offers a higher level of blocking. Up to this point my mother was blocked but could still leave voice mails that I wouldn’t see unles I checked the Blocked Voicemails folder on my phone. Now when they call a recording will state “The person you are calling is not accepting calls at the present time.” Period, end 0f sentence, do not pass go, you cannot leave me a voice mail.
Thanksgiving dinner at Six Feet Under was nice, it was an ebb year with a much smaller crowd than can show up. My friend Stuart bailed on me with regard to riding the half-marathon route, but Jamie rode with me instead. I’m glad I asked him, I wouldn’t have ridden it alone. We started just before the runners, and next year I need to tweak my timing a bit, because for the last five miles or so the streets weren’t fully blocked, which is the major appeal of riding the route.
Tonight I have to drive to Carrollton so that my daughter can take her driving test tomorrow morning. Most of the DMV offices are booked into January, this was the closest thing that we could find. We’ll spend the night with Rachel’s grandmother, it’s always a joy to visit her.
The day after tomorrow I will be standing on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. I cannot wait. Thursday will be some level of day hiking in the canyon, Friday and Saturday is work, Sunday morning I’m planning to commune with some cacti before I get on the plane back.
Wordle in 5, kudos on getting that in 3, Steve. No misses on Connections. It was hard enough that I almost said fuck this.
Safe travels, Paulie.
Connections is funny -how we see the grouping in such different order.
Green – purple – yellow – blue
Wordle in 4 – wasted #3 guess, put a letter in the same wrong spot. Duh.
Mini – it took me a while.
South Rim sounds great about now. Bundle up, it’s going to be cold!
And the barista was right…
Thank you, Steve. 🙂
One last drive out to Carrolton for the driver’s test isn’t a bad thing, dealing with interstate driving out of the city can always be a little different.
Does Rachel have a college picked out? There’s a college out there too. Do a little tour of the campus?
Presently Rachel has her eye on UGA and then law school. This is always subject to change, but that’s the current plan. My “wife” spent some time at West Georgia, and her father was an accounting professor there. “Let’s go Trojans, lets go!” What an unfortunate mascot name. 😉
A number of years ago the powers that be granted university status to West Georgia, which used to be West Georgia College. The first iteration was State University of West Georgia, to distinguish it from UGA. That resulted in the unfortunate abbreviation of SUWG, pronunced “sewage”. 😉 They pretty quickly amended it to West Georgia University. Our tax dollars at work, I tell you what.
Well that’s some interesting trivia about West Georgia.
I’ve heard it is so hard to get into UGA as a freshman, I hope she can do it. That would be awesome.
It was hard to get into Paideia and we pulled it off. We’ll cross the UGA bridge when we get to it.
You’ll enjoy the big Ditch! One of a my favorite places to run.
It’s going to be a spiritual experience for me. I sure as hell won’t be running, and I’m going to use a 1 to 3 ratio on my day hike into the depths, meaning for every 1 hour I walk in, I’m going to plan on it taking 3 hours to get back out. I need to save me from myself. I remember how seductive going in is, it’s like “this is no big deal!”. Plus, I’m 31 fucking years older than I was the first time around. I am definitely aware of that.
Sounds like a solid plan! :).
Barb, it was Emma Millican Park. Maybe Allan can check to see if anyone actually responded.
Allan said – “do you know how many person down calls we get in a day?” when I asked him.
But – he could maybe look it up when he’s back at the station – what time was it?
What a week, I had 8 people in my house all week. Getting these people off the couch to go do stuff was frustrating as hell. I love my family but this may have been my last year hosting thanksgiving.
House painting got done in time and looks great, really happy with the work. This spring I’ll have to host a back yard party.
Wheelhopper was super fun and totally needed as I only had to get me out the door and not 8 people. We missed you Sally!
I just could not convince myself I needed to do a pub crawl yesterday – so went hiking instead. The possibility of drizzle/rain on the bike is just not my idea of fun. If Allan wasn’t working, we might have done it, but to get there myself, I knew it wasn’t going to happen.
Hearding the family cats is extra fun. Glad I don’t have to do that anymore.
Great work, Bob, on pulling off that renovation work and using the approaching storm of 8 people in your house as a lever. I am a big fan of using the discipline of a deadline to get shit done.
Glad it was fun! Missed seeing everyone but I made money instead of spending it. What did Deaner cook up this year?
The hash was all of about 4 miles or less. Wild haven, Little Cottage, Lost Druid, Avendale pizza, and Trackside tavern. More social than riding and very little rain so we didn’t get wet at all.
Good times were had all around.
Busy morning! I didn’t have a chance to do Connections or Wordle.
I had a great long weekend. We had planned to go to the cabin but when the packers got scheduled for Tuesday and demolition to begin Wednesday, we needed to stay home and get shit done. I did a MAJOR purge on my bathroom stuff, to the point where I don’t even need the packers to pack it up. The new bathroom configuration will have a lot LESS storage space so it was really necessary to get rid of everything but the essentials. David, I hope you are proud of me!
Yesterday I signed up for NFL Sunday Ticket because they had a pro-rated Thanksgiving sale for the rest of the season. So Kevin and I got to watch our very bad teams play each other at home in our jammies (the Giants won a game which was basically a series of punts back and forth). I made a shepherd’s pie with the leftover vegetables and mashed potatoes from Thanksgiving.
Exceedingly! 🙂
I was noticing all the stuff I have in my bathroom just the other day – thinking, I don’t need all this crap! So many half bottles of whatever.
But – I haven’t gotten around to purging – but I think I may do that soon.
Yes! So many products I used a couple of times but haven’t touched in years. It was great to get rid of it all.
Hey gang! Decided not to stop at all the places I intended to visit on my drive home, so I have arrived home already. About to catch up…
