I forgot to mention yesterday that I took two photos for my “Home Was Where the Hearth Is” project. The two newly discovered freestanding hearths were inside Clinton Nature Preserve. I haven’t uploaded the photos to Flickr yet, but will soon.
I didn’t do a whole lot yesterday, feeling blah and all. I did manage to finish the book “The Last Devil to Die”, the fourth in the “A Thursday Murder Club Mystery” series by Richard Osman. These are easy reads, and my virtual copy is due back to the library this week, so I wanted to finish it. I wound up making a squash soup last night. I roasted a large north Georgia candy roaster squash along with a small butternut squash, and the proceeded to make the soup using the, as the base. The soup is good, but could possibly use a few enhancements like a dash of cream.
Today I will travel to one of my old work neighborhoods, Perimeter Mall, to make a few shekels by doing a product evaluation. I picked a 9am time slot to limit the possibility of spending the money immediately on food and/or beer.
May or may not ride tonight depending on my energy level and the temperature. I do have to show up regardless since I have a bike stand to give to one of the guys. My buddy Chip was getting rid of this bike stand, so I offered to take it off of his hands and find it a new home.
I solved today’s Wordle in five attempts; my starter today was HYENA. Life has been no laughing matter for me the past eighteen months, but I decided to start with this word anyhow.
Recently I have been too depressed about my weight gain to weigh myself. Henceforth I did not weigh myself again today.
Another good Connections day for me. My order of solutions was: Purple > Yellow > Blue > Green. The blue group was the first I identified, but saw five possibilities so I waited to solve other groups first.
purple 1st? you are better than me with that grouping.
Wordle in 4 starting with DRIVE. Connections was hard today. Too many of the groups had 5 words that could fit the bill. I had 3 mistakes. I almost didn’t get it. The Braves pulled one out last night. The whole Israel – Hamas war saddens me. GUTS run tonight. Not sure what I will get done today. Not real motivated but there is plenty to do.
Wordle in 3 and it should have been 2 if I had been paying more attention. Connections complete.
So I FINALLY got out on my bike yesterday and headed west- into the wind. I took a route I don’t normally do and completely forgot about the bridge being out on US27. I decided to give it a try anyway and as it was a state holiday as well, I had the place to myself. They are almost ready to pour concrete, so the rebar was in place and made for a fairly easy walk across the bridge. I’m pretty sure that make me the first cyclist across the new bridge! Once a hasher….
Otherwise, a pretty quiet day. Debbie’s TPMS was complaining so I checked her tires. The “book” says 60 in front and 70 in the back (80 in the spare!) so we’ll see if it complains now. She can’t get the brakes to sing like I can. Lead footed as she must be.

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention that my TPMS fired while drive to Villa Rica on Sunday. Cold morning plus interstate driving must heat up the tires quickly, at least that is the theory to which I am sticking.
Mine did too on the way to Fort Mountain. Colder temps. I’ll just reset it and be on my way! 🙂
Yep, reset it as soon as I got to Villa Rica.
Very busy day at work, then met my boss (who lives in Roswell) for the 1st time in person, and our big boss (from Chicago) for dinner. We met at Taco Mac at the Prado and it was central, and ate some apps & wings & drank beer. Then Andre said we needed to eat dinner. Drew & I were like “what??” So, we went across the parking lot to Genki & got some sushi. I’m still full.
It was fun meeting people in person, even though I do “see” them on Teams occasionally. We originally were supposed to go to Top Golf, but Roswell to the Westside area didn’t interest my Roswell boss.
Well, you did follow the first rule of sushi- never go really hungry!
And how long have you worked for these guys? Over a year now?
almost 2 years – started Jan 3 2022.
BTW – any interest in PorchFest Saturday?
We are thinking it would be fun to go see Brewery Road – but aren’t sure where to park. Figured maybe we’d bring the bikes & park somewhere & get a little (& I mean little) ride in.
I’m going to check the weather and how I feel. If I go, Brewery Road will be the one band I skip, you can imagine why. Besides, I have seen them multiple times.
Afraid I may succumb to some of Amazon’s “deals” today. I keep a close watch on the price fluctuations that occur for the items in my wish list, and a few have legitimately come down in price.
hmmmm – what to buy today…………..
After I’m done commenting I will buy another stand sprinkler for WLF and some small baking sheets. Wish CIC paid immediately with a gift card so I could apply today’s earnings to today’s purchases.
Well, strike that. Earlier I saw the sprinkler was going to be a deal from 10am-3pm, but I just went to buy it and saw it’s back up to its original price. F’in Amazon…
It was a great game last night! Although the first 7 innings were very disappointing. But we’re not going to any other playoff games, the fans are such assholes! Kevin didn’t stand for God Bless America and some guy confronted him. Like, seriously, dude? It’s NOT the national anthem. After that we only stayed until the Braves got the lead and then left.
I swear – people today are so up in everyone else’s business.
Glad Kevin survived the assholes.
And – glad the Braves pulled off the win.
Can’t say I liked the outcome. 😉 I almost wish they wouldn’t do God Bless America for that, and other reasons. Asshats!
Why haven’t you published that book yet? It’s a great idea and would make a good coffee table book. I’ll bet David can get you a contact 🙂
Crunch wraps on the blackstone was a success last night! Definitely will keep it in my rotation. Super easy to keep the vegetarian wrap separate too.
Wordle in 5 and Connections fail, I was too impatient today
the folding of the tortillas would be my problem with making the crunch wraps – but – what a GREAT idea. We might have to attempt that.
I failed on Connections too – the Blue made me mad because there were more than 4 choices.
The folding wasn’t too bad, seems the secret is including another tortilla on top so your folds don’t have to fully cover. Such a simple meal. Also we had corn tortillas so I put some oil on them and put them in the oven and made my own tostadas. Win win!
Well done, Roberto!
We had a donation of Japanese Eggplant and I made some “French Fries” with the air fryer last night. A bit chewy as The skin was still on, but workable. A little marinara to dip them in. Eggplant is not Debbie’s favorite, but she managed.
It’s eerie to me that you took Home Was Where the Hearth Was pictures yesterday because I took two as well that I’ll be sending you. I hiked 14.4 miles yesterday in North Carolina. It’s the longest hike I’ve done since my 20s. I drove back from Knoxville this morning, so I’m back at the salt mine, which is fervently awaiting my attention so I’ll do a better write-up of yesterday tomorrow.
I’ll read the blog later, I just skimmed the first part just now.
Wow, put my eight miles to shame! You probably has hills too, to boot. Well done.
Hiked? 14 miles? That’s why God invented bicycles!
Speaking of hiking. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it in this space, but I’m following “32 feet up” on that other social media. A mom and her 15 kids (!) hiking the AT. Wow.
I had some hella hills. We had a 2,000 feet descent at one point. I think we had a 1,000 foot ascent on the front end. I’ve never done a back country hike like this one. Part of the hike was on the Appalachian Trail. And no, we were not speedwalking at 3 miles an hour. I mean, Sally probably could, but our progress was mostly 1.5 miles per hour, which is a testament to how intense the terrain is.
That sounds terrible. Glad you had fun!
holy cow – that’s a hell of a hike. Wow, congrats – I don’t think I could do it these days.
LOL, Steve. I wouldn’t want to take a bike on this trail. There’s probably people that have though.
Well this sucks, I might have something trying to make a home in my attic again. There are two spots on the roofline that need attending, so if this is the case, shame on me.
Was hoping to get through one more winter without intrusion before getting roofing done next year.
