My ability to abstain from ordering from Amazon is weaker than the NY Times’s for not having a Wordle solution start with the letter R. My streak lasted from July 12th until August 27th, while the NYT’s has lasted since June 25th until (perhaps) today. I will continue to start with an R word until the NY Times gives in.
I had a good day yesterday. I worked in WLF for a few hours, mostly doing cleanup work and killing tomato hornworms. Three of the Tuesday night cycling group (two active hashers and one retired one) decided to brave the weather and ride. Unfortunately the rain started to fall while we were out on our ride and one of us (not me) took a spill turning a corner, so we cut the ride short in order for him to tend to his wounds and we could start drinking.
I arrived home a little before 10pm to discover my Amazon packages had not yet been delivered. They arrived shortly after 10pm; what a brutal job being an Amazon delivery person must be.
Apple announced a September 12th event, which is the right time for an iPhone announcement. It appears that in two weeks I will get a sneak peak at my next iPhone, assuming I decide to spend the money. My current iPhone is an iPhone XS, purchased about a month before the iPhone 11 came out four years ago.
I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was RICED. Thought I had cleverly solved it in three, but the final letter was different than my guess. After solving I found out that my third guess had already been a Wordle solution.
I had my first Connections fail today. While I figured out the final two categories for which I was trying to create groups, I made four incorrect guesses at doing so.
Wordle in 3 starting with GROVE as a nod toward a fun dinner last night. We tried to linger beyond the apocalyptic rain to no avail so we punted on the bike handoff and will meet up again next week. Last night we all learned that shrimp included in sushi IS NOT ALWAYS COOKED. Lesson learned, everything else on the table was great.
I’m meeting a friend at the Doll’s Head Trail this morning. It’s going to he her first time on it. I love taking people there for their first time.
Well done, except GROVE has been a previous solution.
I’m not sure I’ve eaten raw shrimp, but I have eaten shrimp which has had citric acid (lemon or lime) squirted on it which essentially “cooks” the shrimp.
Good morning to be out there, if perhaps a little muddy. Enjoy!
I don’t have it in me to look up past answers. I can see that you’re still seeking a Wordle in 1. I happened on that once, and having it happen again would not change my life any appreciable way (it sure didn’t the first time), so I go with whatever word strikes my fancy on a given day.
well – that dish Rachel ordered wasn’t exactly sushi like we know it, (what was it? I’m still not sure) -so my idea that shrimp in sushi is cooked still sort of stands.
Damn that drive home going north on Cobb Pkwy was crazy, it was flooded in more than a few places, at times could not see at all, just hoping we were in our lane. I’m very impressed Rachel drove & handled it just fine – I think she’s clearly ready for her driver’s license.
Thank you, I agree. She was really grateful to get to drive through that crazy rain with a coach by her side. She said most of her friends parents just don’t take them out in weather like that. Given my own hard knocks that I’m lucky to have survived, I’m putting her in just as many wacky driving situations as I can. It’s going to head off a lot of angst when she gets her license in November because I know she’s road ready and has been tested.
Am I missing something? Why can’t you pick up a bike in the rain?
it was POURING – just didn’t want to take it off the 1 rack & then put it on the next rack. (we brought it to the restaurant) We got soaked, but that would have been REALLY soaked. Since it wasn’t urgent to get the bike back, we decided we’d do it another day
OH, I see. That makes sense.
We really did sit and think about it for a few minutes. Rachel had a great time, Barb. She loves hanging out with you and Allan.
Wordle in 5 and there will be a lot of aces today.
I finally got off my recliner and rode last night. 40 minutes of steady state felt good. And I didn’t cough too much afterward. I’ve seen a lot more masks at the office and I can understand why.
We watched your “Amateur’s take on the TdF” last night. Interesting. Crazy people.
I think we should get a bit of rain out of the storm as it blows by. Mom should be fine.
-FP
Those Kiwis are a loony bunch.
Yeah, been watching the storm and it will bring some wind and a lot of rain, both of which her house should be able to handle. She spent the night at a cousin’s house so that she wasn’t alone.
Is the Doll Head Trail open to the public now? Crazy storms last night. I swear my house consistently sits in the purple blob. Cooler temps for the run last night but still very humid. Wordle in 3 starting with TOXIC. 2 mistakes in Connections. Even though WestStride is hosting a running event tonight at Scofflaw, I’m going to the United Game. Thanks Bob. Need to get my house Wilma proofed this morning. She is going to be dropped off tonight. I have her through the long week-end. I hope everyone that has friends and family in Florida, that they are safe from the hurricane.
Well done on Wordle and Connections. I got my first two Connections groupings immediately, but then whiffed on the other two.
It was far worse up by you than for us. Stan (Lawn Cut), Chris (Long and Red), and I sat under the large awning around from Meltons, though for all intents and purposes the rain had stopped.
Geez, Bob didn’t even invite me over to his section and I was already inside the stadium! 🙂 I hope they play well again tonight, they certainly could use the points to move up the table.
But you were alllll the way on the other side! So far away! 🙂
hahaha, true.
Sal – why would you think that trail isn’t open to the public? The few times I’ve been there it seemed like a public trail.
I think Sally is remembering the days when it was a bootleg trail. It’s an official Dekalb county park these days. It wasn’t too muddy, but man, the backside of the trail is seriously overgrown. I realized that up to this point I’ve always been there in the winter, which is definitely the best time to go. It’s hard to see some of the “art” when it’s hidden behind weeds. We had the trail to ourselves save for seeing one person on her way out as we were headed in.
or – maybe she is thinking of the area where Cop City is going to be built? (2 different areas)
C0uld be, it’s definitely two different areas. From my understanding there’s also an undeveloped park area on the other side of Moreland as well that I have yet to explore.
Interesting NY Times Mini Crossword today. I struggled, mainly on the spelling of one of the answers, and have stopped trying to work it for speed.
Mini – didn’t do that well.
Wordle in 3 –
Connections – sometimes I just don’t care so I just guess – so FAIL
Mini in 55. I’ve been off of my Mini game as of late. I’m amidst last week’s Friday puzzle, so I’ve made up some ground, but still need to pick up the pace if I’m going to get current.
I’m basing out of Joe’s again. Author review for book #6 needs to be done by September 8. I’ll hopefully get to the halfway mark today. Then I need to immediately get going on book #7.
Looks like the hurricane went more north than expected. I’ll check in on my nephew in Tampa this morning but I’m sure he is ok.
So much rain last night and seemed darker than usual, big ol storm cloud.
Before the rains happened though I handed Travis the spatulas and said go cook us dinner. Chicken quesadillas on the Blackstone were quite tasty.
Laura comes home from Seattle tonight, she texted me at 7:45 that she was up and getting ready. I think her plane lands at 6:30 or so tonight, going to be a looooong day.
Still have yet to christen the Blackstone. Perhaps next week.
Yeah it will be a long day, but at least her flight shouldn’t get impacted by the storm.
the way the airlines are these days -you never know if a problem in FL will affect the rest of the country.
I talked to Cheese Spread who lives in Punta Gorda – (they are of course out of town) but their neighbors say so far, their boat is ok. Water is above the sea wall, but the boat is still high enough its ok. They just got it replaced a few months ago after the last hurricane.,
Helped my friend with the shoulder surgery get ready for her trip. She has pretty good range of motion and a sling for walking, so I think she’ll be fine. The route is called the Camino de Santiago. Whatever. You would never find me paying actual money to walk 12 miles a day for a week. Or anywhere.
United game tonight! I’m excited!
at least there is cool scenery on that walk, and you can stop & chill at cafes.
I did the 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk one year – 20 miles a day for 3 days – the 1st 2 days were ok – the 3rd day – agony.
I had a T-Rex arm for a few months last year after I broke my arm, and simply cannot fathom doing an expedition like that with a partial arm. For one thing, those damn slings get hot. I would also get gobsmacked by needing to sit down during walks in Grant Park. Granted, that was in the immediate aftermath, but still. I wish your friend well and hope that she gets the experience that she’s seeking.
Yeah, she’s been dealing with that sling in the Atlanta heat for 6 weeks and she says it’s hot. But she’s also an endurance athlete who has run marathons/half marathons on all 7 continents including Antarctica, so her endurance threshold is higher than most. She’s kinda amazing.
Damn. Yes, that changes everything and explains much.
We just got tickets to the Atlanta United game tonight – with a parking pass in the Home Depot lot. So, guess what we are doing tonight? (poor Leslie & Jon are just getting over Covid, they are finally negative, but still don’t have the energy to go)
We could tailgate at our car with a beer before the game, if any of y’all want to meet us?
What time are you getting there? We might come say hi. We will be heading for the Mercedes club for dinner before the match.
not sure on a time frame yet – I need to be online “working” until 5. Our seats are on the lower level, but I’m not sure if they are in any of the club areas. Waiting on Leslie to send them over.
Jenka- we are in Section 111C – is that anywhere near you?
Uuuuummm, YEAH IT IS, we’re in 111C too!
That “C” means club, so you have club access, too.
well – this could make it fun…..
row 13, seat 15 & 16
Row 11, right in front of you!
I might have to buy popcorn jut to throw it at you!
Sure, on the night I have plans to go to a play you all decide to go to the United game.
Message received…
Is there a 5 letter synonym for petulant that you can use tomorrow? Ah, yes, PEEVE.
That doesn’t start with an R. 😉
Well then, OED says RATTY.
Ate another tomato sandwich for lunch along with some okra I picked from WLF and fried.
Watching the podium of Vuelta a España and see they have gotten rid of the podium girls/guys completely. How sad for beautiful people.
how’s Bora doing? I think Kevin is working that race.
Don’t think Bora has made a dent yet. I didn’t watch yesterday’s stage, however.
Stand corrected, Bora riders are currently in 5th and 6th overall.
very nice! Probably because Kevin is one of their mechanics. 😉
Wordle in 4 starting with WHEAT.
Unfortunately hound exercise was canceled today over concerns about the weather. It was a glorious morning, cool and soft. Went to the chiro and met friends for lunch. One came over to meet the puppy. These guys sell themselves. I’ve already got 3 on the waiting list for the first litter.
The chiro was able to adjust my mid back normally so I’m officially declaring my ribs healed. I hope to never go through that again. Scheduling a bone density test in the next few weeks to see if there’s anything that needs to be addressed.
Off to do Connections. It pisses me off more often than not. I’m to impatient to suss it out, but I still give it a shot.
Apparently bitching about it is the key to success. Aced Connections for once.
ACED IT – wow! – you are much better than me today
Yeah, you have either a much better knowledge of Egypt or typefaces than I do. *applause*
Hold up, my game had nothing to do with those things. Do they have different levels and I got a remedial level?!? Mine was things that go with __ -jacks, synonyms for mar, units of measure and one other category that I can’t recall.
Super weird, I went back and there was a new puzzle that I also aced because of the hints in your comment. WTH NYT!? Get it together.
WOW – Allan’s passport just showed up – about 6 weeks ago it was sent. Much faster than I expected. Mine still says In Process on the website. Not that I need it, so its no biggie.
Wow, that’s great.
New Wilson 100 maps (from Gay, not Senoia) were published, well, except for the eighty-mile route I’m signed up to ride. I sent an email to the race and she told me they are still trying to figure out out. They have had issues changing the routes this year due to bridges being out.
When is the Wilson? We can be a post-ride beer and lunch stop.
September 9th. Starts/Ends at the brewery Farm in Gay, but I’d love swing by and say hello afterwards.
