Based on how rushed I always feel these days it seems a no-brainer that I’d have much about which to blog. But for some reason I am struggling.
The Not-So-Itsy Bitsy Spider
The not-so-itsy bitsy spider
Was in my shower stall
Down went my wash cloth
And crushed him legs and allIn to the drain pipe
The squishy spider went
At least I didn’t…
Give up killing spiders for Lent
Again… animals, including insects, which take up residence in my house without my permission are enemies. This is especially the case for spiders who are about the side of silver dollars (including legs) which show up mysteriously in my shower stall when I am taking a shower.
What’s Your Take On Expired Medication?
When I got sick last week I naturally went into my medicine chest looking for relief. This being the first time all Winter that sickness had found its way to me, I was uncertain what I would find. What I did find was a lot of boxes which had expired contents (which, by the way, rarely stops me from taking them).
This realization caused me to pause for a minute to think how I should react (be careful, the following is really a personality test disguised as a thought)…
Should I:
- Be bothered that I had spent money on medication which is now “useless” and will have to be replaced?
- Be happy that it had been so long that I had been sick that my medication expired before I could use it?
- Feel a little of each of the above.
Honestly, I think I went through both stages which means I fall into Category 3.
Life Tests can occur at the strangest of times.

At the Museum of Life & Science in Durham, NC they have a small pond in which people can sail remote-controlled sailboats such as those pictured below.
I’m sure that the people there thought I was a kook for getting down low and taking photos of the boats. Eh, what do I care what strangers think these days.
A New Seven-Day Project Has Started
I posted my new project to Seven-Day Project — now all I have to do is continue to post.
This week’s project is to clean a room or two a day for the next week. Hopefully this will be the first of the projects that I will maintain for the long-term.
The Real Estate Market Is Still Effed In The Head!
Believe it or not the thought of moving occurs to me often. I don’t know where I’d go, but I often desire to move into a really cool “authentic” loft space. With the economy, especially the real estate market, in the shitter I figured now would be a great time to look.
I am apparently wrong.
A week or so ago I listened to the This American Life episode called “Bad Bank!” so I understood why there are no “deals,” in the real estate market, although I still got puzzled somewhat.
“Real” Atlanta lofts are still being offered for the $200k+ price point? C’mon, it’s a depressed market! Oh well, I guess I’ll ride out the times by attempting to fix up my house so it will sell when the time to leave really comes to fruition.

Did you notice your Lightning Deal is a spider pendant?
Spiders don’t bother me too much, I have one hanging out in the bathroom right now. Otherwise, I will scoot them outside.
Huh, had not paid attention to the Amazon deal today; strangely coincidental.
It’s not that I am all that bothered by spiders but ones that large, especially when in the shower with me must die immediately.
I have noticed that it is really hard to clean spider “droppings” off of my hardwood floors as well.
Very clever on the spider song. Now it will be lodged in my head for hours…
It seems to me that even in this economy, something in short supply, like a cool historic loft, would still have a fairly decent price. Not the same price if we weren’t in a recession, but still fairly healthy. Basic supply and demand.
Do you really have such a herd (or whatever the correct collective noun is for spiders) of spiders, you have a problem with droppings? Sounds like the makings of a B movie.

I don’t think I have a spider infestation by any means. The ones in the corners or in spots where I don’t see them live long enough to create a mess on the floor. It’s not a large mess, but noticeable when I clean and try to wipe it up.
The expiration dates on medicine are a suggestion IMHO, I’m sure they are good way past that date, they just want people to buy more. Maybe 5 years later they aren’t good, but still. I’m pretty sure if I remember correctly, you bought a bunch of OTC medicines to use up your Flex spending money last December. I did the same, I’m stocked up on Claritin & Zyrtec for this allergy season, even though I’m actually taking Allegra (which I do need a prescrition for).
Steve & Debbie – the weather isn’t looking all that good for that bike ride I’m doing down your way on Saturday. Not sure yet if we will be stopping by on the way home, I need to figure out who all is riding with us, and if anyone has to get back to the ATL.
This is a test comment. This is only a test comment.
1. Most medications are good long past their expiration dates; and, I agree with you… all of the above.
2. Just an observation: if you are anticipating selling your house anyway, you might as well get the plumbing fixed now and enjoy a “normal plumbing” life while you’re there. You’ll have to get it fixed to sell the house anyway. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten a house fixed up to sell, only to look around and wonder why I didn’t fix it up long ago and enjoy the place while I lived there.
3. They may be asking a lot for the cool lofts, but that doesn’t mean it’s what they’ll take. There are many, many good deals out there. I’d be afraid to make a rediculous offer now a days for fear that someone would take it!!
I was wondering if we had a plan or not… I was going to see if the ITP readers who are riding MMM want to get together for a little training ride- and I can easily drive to meet you. I know the Comet isn’t good training for the mountains, but it would at least get some miles in my butt. Any takers?

The plumbing “solution” should begin soon. It’s (long past) time for me to be able to use my kitchen and washing machine again.
If I had more disposable income I’d make offers for lofts, I was really just thinking aloud today. Realistically I should not put myself into any financial strain at the moment, other than fixing my house for possible future sale.
Steve (and others), I’m not committing to MMM at the moment. In fact, I’m not committing to any event for awhile. I’m currently feeling over-committed and that my life is rushing by. It’s time for me to pull back on the reins and get a little control back into my life.
Steve (and anyone else) – Training rides for MMM – just say when, I’m there. After work I can be “wherever” on the west side within 30 minutes usually, if you want to go to the east side, it would take much longer. I have to stay at work until 5. I’ve gotten to enjoy the riding in Roswell, they have the roads marks with various routes, and enough hills to make it a workout, but then there is the part along the river that is flat. We are thinking this Thursday night of going over there. (Allan also has some bike parts to pick up at Cycleworks). Next week Tues., Wed., Fri., & Sat. are open for riding as well.
(Michelle & I are meeting at 5:30 at SCT today, but I’m guessing you don’t have your bike with you)
I don’t have 4 wheels either!! I just ran at lunch and if I’m feeling froggy when I get home, I might take a little ride- Martha’s 2 a day drills must be rubbing off.

Working out twice a day is great Steve, just don’t let anyone see you getting tired, you may not hear the end of it.
I will be there for my two-fer tomorrow night and Barb, I might be talked into a ride Saturday after my run (of course I probably won’t be able to ride far again).
Paulie, I think committing to workout 20 minutes a day for a week would be a good challenge for you. I’m working on a 100 push-up challenge but it is 8 weeks.
Meds can lose some potency once they expire, but stored correctly and unopened should be fine for years after the expiration date. There are a few medications, where any loss of efficacy could result in serious repercussions (ie oral contraceptives) and shouldn’t be taken after they have expired.
If you had a dog you would never notice spider droppings, the fur balls would cover them up.
Martha – Saturday we will be down south doing that Wheels of Fire ride. But Sunday is open, not sure if that will be a mtn biking or road biking day.
@ Barb…hear that? Its a big sigh of relief, now I don’t have to feel guilty about not doing anything Saturday afternoon.
