Marching On

I am trying to take a different view of life. I’ve already had one potential impediment to this regarding the Jackmobile, but nothing related to last week’s service. Upon arriving at work I had difficult getting the ignition switch back to the position where it would allow me to remove the key. I’ll chalk it up to the steering wheel not being locked as when I backed up and re-parked it worked properly.

I’m trying people. I’m trying.

I’m Going Hashing In The Snow? I Must Be Insane
Luckily for me there are plenty of insane people who hash. The must have been fifteen or so [update: I just looked at the sign-in sheet and there were twenty-four hounds!] of us who braved the cold and snow in order to drink beer and watch a trio of hares park it on the ice.

As a credit to the day’s hares ITP-reader Betsy (aka Boner Rooter) and non-ITP-readers Blue Ball Special and Dumb Fuck cut some of the distance from their original plan, and colored their flour so that it could be seen on the snow.

I thought the trail was quite enjoyable and used the snow to my advantage. Since I am far from the fastest person hashing these days I was able to follow the footsteps of those who hashed before me. Remember, hash smarter not harder kids.

A Mere 97 Cents From My Goal
According to my somewhat-shady accounting for my first challenge at Seven-Day Project I finished my week consuming $30.97 worth of food/drink. (What this doesn’t include, and I noted this in the final entry for the week, was the $7 that I spent yesterday for hashing.)

The $30/week challenge was an interesting one. I don’t believe that any of the contestants who participated made it under the $30 mark and many of them consumed free/donated meals during the week. Therefore I must say that I am rather proud of myself, and am glad that this challenge is in the books. And for those who thought this would be a great weight-loss opportunity — I actually gained one pound this week. Dangen!

Later today I’ll be posting my next Seven-Day Challenge, to eat only vegetarian food for the next week. Yep, one week, 7/7ths as a vegetarian. At least it won’t have to be cheap vegetarian food. 🙂

Obligatory snow picture.
Atlanta Snow Day (Front Yard)
I’m originally from New York so March 1st snow storms are nothing new to me. I’m amazed how many Atlanta residents get all stoked at snow as if it’s never occurred before.

The Amazing Race Would Have Been More Amazing Had I Stayed Awake
At approximately 7:58pm, two minutes before the start of The Amazing Race my eyes must have closed because when they reopened it was 8:45pm. Therefore I missed three-quarters of the night’s episode. I’m not sure who won,and I saw who got eliminated, but I know nothing else of the evening’s episode.

I’ll be looking at CBS to see if they have the episode online.

We didn’t watch Amazing Race either, Allan was at the firehouse and they were quite busy, so I elected to just watch Celebrity Apprentice and save AR for tonight. I never had any desire to watch the Apprentice when it was just regular people, but I do enjoy the celebrity version. I’d love to see Jesse James win, though I don’t think it will happen.
I’m sure the full episode of AR is on cbs.com.

I can’t believe you didn’t lose weight last week. I think you scale is broken.

  2. “Watching” Amazing Race on CBS.com right now. I wish that there weren’t so many commercial breaks, but what can you do?

I don’t think the weight gain was your fault. I’m pretty sure the gravitational pull of the earth became stronger…that is the only explanation I have for my weight gain last month. How the f*$k am I gaining weight??? It is making me very anxious, as I’m beginning to tapper this week for ING.

Good for you getting out yesterday, it wasn’t the cold, or the snow…it was the cold, wet snow that kept me it. I spent almost 4 hours in the rain on Saturday, I wasn’t about to get back out in it again.

  4. When we took off I feared that I’d have some frostbite because my fingers and toes were freezing. Thankfully I warmed up a bit as I ambled along the course. The snow and water crossings made for an “interesting” trail, one which I hope not to have to endure again any time soon.

I’m not surprised that I gained weight. It was only one pound and it wasn’t like I was starving myself, I was just spending less and not eating out.

BTW – sorry you couldn’t join us for the hockey game Saturday night, Kevin got some awesome seats. We were about 15 rows behind the visitor bench, and I guess since it was a saturday night, the place was pretty full, so lots of crowd noise. And an added bonus, the Thrashers even managed to win for a change, very exciting 3rd period.

Glad to hear you had a fun frolicking in the snow — must’ve been kinda weird retraining your eye to look for something that was NOT white in a sea of the stuff.
Also glad to hear that AR is finally available online. I remember last year it wasn’t (or at least I wasn’t looking in the right place). Good episode though.

  7. The hares put red line-chalk in with flour (or just threw red line-chalk) so it was fairly easy to follow, well at least if you had a track of footsteps to follow.

It was a good episode. In other news, I have access to my old DVR again and may be able to record television again. Woo Hoo!

    1. I like that Betsy is “ITP-Ready.” 🙂

    2. Yes – it was an awesome game on Saturday! I think Barb & Allen were smack directly across from us.

    3. The weight thing? Seriously… it’s everywhere! We’re all working our bums off/eating well and it’s not going away. It must be from that same dude that snuck in and shrunk all our pants.

  9. Yikes!!! Obvious Freudian-slip corrected. 😉

It’s just as well that I didn’t go Saturday night because I couldn’t afford to eat or drink anything on my $30/week budget.

  10. Dave says:

Hey Paulie, saw you were checking up on me earlier…I appreciate that.

the short of it, Dave Needs A Job! Unemployment is not as fun as it should be.

  11. Aw shit, sorry to hear that Dave. What sort of work are you seeking?

  12. Dave says:

right now, I just need work…Ive got experience with admin/office/sales/research…but I’m not picky and open to doing something new, can’t really be too picky at the moment

anyways, enough about me, hope you’re doing well…

  13. Barb says:

Allan decided to not drink or eat anything at that hockey game, so you would have fit in okay, he was saving it for Wild Wing later, but we never got around to eating. BTW, did I tell you we saw a Journey cover band (Departure is their name) that night? They were actually quite entertaining, and I’m not a huge Journey fan.

  14. Stacy says:

Yeah, the hockey game…shoot, Stacy can’t afford much either on her (lack of) salary. We tailgated before, brought food and beers from home. Next time, I’ll make sure to give you a call!

I’m not sure who “Dave” is, but I totally feel your pain, Dave. Hang in there!
