I must not be a True ‘Merican, because I did not watch the Super Bowl. With no party to attend and little desire to socialize I was asleep on the futon by 8:30pm.
It was a fun Sunday regardless, spending most of the day going out to Duluth for an entertaining hockey game. The only downsides of the game were my GD TPMS alarm going off again, the $10 parking fee, and the fact that the “local” team lost to Cincinnati 6-5. Unfortunately the distance to Duluth combined with spending at least $43 ($33 for the ticket, $10 to park) to see a game means that this will be an experience I don’t repeat again for awhile.
I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was TRIBE
Superb Owl (the name given to it by Schoolhouse brewery – I guess they were told they couldn’t advertise a Superbowl party?) was actually a decent football game – and the refs decided it as seems to be the norm. We watched at home, didn’t hear of any parties, but that’s ok.
If you care about commercials – not that many interesting ones.
Hockey was fun, good game, & Laura says they always lose, so that streak continues. (I think they’ve won once or twice, but I may have gone without her being there)
I was shocked they make you pay for all parking now – there used to be some free parking & you only paid if you wanted to park closer to the building.
oh yeah – Saturday early evening we went to OK Cafe – I did not see John (I did sort of look around the restaurant). We got there at 5, wasn’t too bad getting a table for 7 people under the money tree. At 6:15 (or whatever time we were leaving) – it was a MADHOUSE of people waiting.

Out in WLF trying to accomplish something that I do poorly, dig a level area onto which I will place a raised bed.
I’m not a ‘Merican either, I so could care less about any sort of sports ball on TV.
My kids and I had a lovely time in Blue Ridge. A quick internet search unearthed the Benton MacKaye Trail about 30 minutes from the cabin. This entailed 3 miles of driving on a forest service trail. There’s a lovely swinging suspension bridge over the Toccoa River about a 1/2 mile down the trail. It wasn’t until I got home that evening that I realized the Benton MacKaye Trail is the official name for the Appalachian Trail! Mind blown, given that I literally drove my car to the AT. We started hiking beyond the bridge, and the trail kept going up. Some people going the opposite direction reported that it keeps going up for 4 miles, and since the kids were unhappy we turned around and went back to the bridge and then walked along the river on both sides as far down as we could until the woods took over.
Yesterday my daughter and I went back because she wanted to do some photography on and around the bridge, and this time I let her drive. So she got some experience with mountain roads, and at age 15 now she too has driven a car to the Applachian Trail. She has a complete different perspective on city streets after driving 3 miles in and 3 miles out on that forest service road. I drive a Lexus sedan, so not the best vehicle for something like that. But, 20 years ago, I was in the mountains with my wife and a stranger encouraged us to drive (on our own) through the Cohutta Wilderness. I had a Volvo sedan at the time, and the Cohutta road was far dicier than this one. So, I had a frame of reference, and now my daughter does for life as well.
We drove back in this morning, and I happily paid $4.75 to stay out of the Cobb County gridlock. I did want my money back at one point because the toll lane slowed down to 20 MPH, but it never stopped, and then things resumed back to normal after a bit.

To clarify, it’s 3 miles on the gravel forest service road to get to the parking area, which is immediately adjacent to the Appalachian Trail. The swinging bridge is then 1/2 mile down the AT.
we’ve driven some of those mountain roads in N GA – I’m not sure I’d want to do it in a sedan – I’m guessing your car needs a bath now.
I do want to get to that swinging bridge someday – it sounds very cool.
I always wonder how much the tollercoaster costs in the morning – thanks for that tidbit of info. We have used it here & there, but usually its just for the hell of it – not because traffic is all that horrible.
My car isn’t dirty at all. The road is pretty solid, but you do have to watch protruding rocks that have the potential to bust one’s oil pan. We just crept along at 10 miles an hour in order to mind the rocks and the twists and turns. It was all part of the adventure. A sedan isn’t the best vehicle for that road, but I’m not one to let that stop me.
I highly recommend that trail, and I will definitely be hiking it again.
Tollercoaster, that’s funny, I haven’t heard it called that. I think I paid $5.25 going out Friday afternoon, and it was $4.75 back in this morning. Money well spent for me. You of course wouldn’t pay nearly that much, that was the rate from Sixes Road down to I-285.
Wordle – total fail – I could not even come close to getting it right.
Mini – not much better
I managed Wordle in 5 starting with TRAIL. No Mini for me yet today. I was hoping for a Wordle in 1 yesterday with SCORE, but no dice.
I’m surprised I didn’t start with SUPER yesterday. 🙂

We’re back from a colonoscopy appt. scheduled late Friday. Unfortunately, the prep was not quite enough and we get to go back tomorrow and do it all again. At least at a more reasonable hour.
My slight fever broke early Sunday morning. I’m not sure it was actually a fever, but I awoke through the night feeling much better. Still a cough that sounds like a 3 pack a day habit, but I feel fine.
I sped-watched the pregame and game for the commercials. Not much there, really.

Stopped doing the thing I do poorly and switched to a chore at which I am better, swinging a mattock into dead tree stumps as I try to remove them.
Stump, of an old privet tree, is out! Lunch break for the labor.
This is my first real exercise in two weeks. I’m still not 100% but the weather is too nice to pass up this opportunity.
Ran out of steam for today, and couldn’t convince myself to try my hand at leveling the 3’x6’ section onto which I will put another raised bed a second time today.
