I made a start at relearning software development yesterday. I allowed myself to get sidetracked, otherwise I would have accomplished more. Doing it again today.

Last night’s loaded taco soup recipe was quite tasty, if I do say so myself.

Let’s see if this year I can remember to acknowledge all of the birthdays in my calendar. Happy Birthday, Steve.

I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was MOXIE

    GREAT JOB GETTING STARTED!!!

It is completely OK that you got sidetracked. I can attest that programming requires a very particular mindset that can be elusive. Scolding oneself for not being in the mindset repels it and makes it even harder to access. Plus trail has gotten cold, but you’ll get your mojo back. Do a little more today and non-judgmentally observe where you get, and what feels like is getting in your way.

Regarding Wordle I was robbed, I tell you. I started with LEAST and then on my second word the letters turned green until they didn’t. I apparently zagged when should have zigged on the last letter but I’ll take a Wordle in 3. Mini in 33. Coulda been less if I could type accurately.

    • David says:

Speaking of 33, yesterday was 33 days from when I get my braces off, and today is 32. Not that I’m counting or anything. I’m good with this Benjamin Buttons approach to life that I’m taking. Maybe I should watch that movie some day.

      • Cool!

Benjamin Buttons is but one of a wealth of movies I have never seen. Many people are flummoxed by my lack of interest in movies and popular television.

      • Barb says:

I have never watched Benjamin Buttons either – maybe someday…….. maybe.

        • Jenka says:

*Raises hand* Also never seen Benjamin Buttons. Weird, it was such a popular movie at the time!

          • David says:

Hah! We’re all in good company here. I think that’s one of those movies where the trope is so obvious that you can just skip it, because you get the gist of it.

Wordle in 5 starting with SATIN. A lot of fails yesterday from Wordle friends on that social media platform you don’t use.

Stopped on the way home to give my old computer glasses and new script to the glasses folks. A HALF HOUR wait just to get to the counter! If I had known that going in, I would have just kept going.

Though I haven’t set foot on the riding ring, apparently it held up very well in the 2″ of rain yesterday. Very pleased.

I signed up for the 45 mile option at “Border Wars”, which is Feb 25th. C’mon Bob!!

When I get older, losing my hair many years from now
Will you still be sending me a valentine, birthday greetings, bottle of wine?
If I’d been out till quarter to three would you lock the door?
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
    When I’m sixty-four?

I am SO GLAD that it’s colder today. Walked from my parking garage to my office I decided that 40 is perfect. I would be happy if it were 40 every day.

Paulie, looks like sticking with this blog means you’re cool again! Personal blogging is back, baby!

    happy birthday Steve!!!
    Going out for sushi tonight?

I’m finally feeling almost normal – my head is still a little stuffy, but that is normal for me. I’ll go take some more OTC something.

Finally watching the last 3 episodes of Survivor tonight – coordinating Sal & Paulie’s schedules are tough! 😉 Not sure what is for dinner, but I’ll come up with something, that is hopefully edible.

  5. Trying to figure out seed potatoes for this year. Shipping costs are such a killer, with the two best shopping options costing me $50 to order them. I’m still not comfortable in my farming skills to guarantee that I will grow more than $50 in potatoes. Hmmm…

    • Steve says:

Back when we actually collected compost from the kitchen and put it in the manure pile, the potatoes would just naturally grow. But $50? No.

    • Say Steve, are there any stores down your way that sell such things? A Feed and Seed? Of course it will cost me $30 to drive there and back. Lol

      • Barb says:

I thought Pikes sells seed potatoes – I know I bought some there many years ago when I was trying to be a gardener.

Also – I have some packets of seeds for you, Annette was at something in Chattanooga in December, (like a parade or something) and got seed packets thrown at them. How weird is that?

      • Steve says:

My source of seed is a place in Grantville, but I don’t think he sells small bags. He sells to farmers, so a 50lb bag is the norm. I think Tractor Supply would be a good choice, or Intown Hardware on Scott where TLC works.

        • Huh, that makes sense. TSC sells the same ones as Lowe’s, I saw them there last year. I may try Ace, or I may venture to Pike’s or out to an OTP hardware store to see if they have different varieties. It’s frustrating to see UK gardeners walk into stores and have a wide selection of reasonably priced seed potatoes at their disposal.

    • David says:

Do you happen to have any fellow gardening friends that you can split the purchase with? I’m not going to have a yard much longer, so that rules me out.

  6. David, have you decided when you are doing a Meetup Sunday hike?

I may do some on what would have been Black Sheep Sundays, you know, to start a new tradition of exercising and drinking.

    • David says:

I haven’t set a date just yet. I’m going to have dance lessons at noon on Saturdays for a couple of weeks. It’s a six week workshop and I’ll probably miss the fourth session, but the classes repeat every few weeks so I’ll catch the last three sessions when they come back around in March.

Last I checked the Hiking League group has 100 people showing up for their Red Top Mountain hike. Um, no thanks, that feels like a shitshow. The other group is 45+ Singles Hiking or something like that and appears to limit the group to 24 people max, which a) is much more approachable and b) the main purpose of the group is to mingle.

For now I’m watching the postings and seeing what pattern emerges. I’m also taking swimming lessons from a friend, I’m finally conquering a lifelong water phobia (thanks, Dad) once and for all. So hiking isn’t quite on my radar yet, but it will be. I am working to get things positioned so that when I am ready I can jump right into what’s next. I will definitely let you know when I see a hike that works for me, it would be great to have someone to go with.

Another positioning move I’ve made is to sign up as a volunteer with https://catalystsports.org/. They provide opportunities and equipment for disabled people to mountain bike, road bike, kayak, and climb. For instance, they schedule rides on the Silver Comet Trail. For road biking they like to have one able-bodied volunteer ride along with each of their participants. I plan on getting involved with them later this year. My friend Debra, who I’ve known since 8th grade, volunteers for them in Knoxville, and the pictures she sends me of the participants literally smiling from ear to ear are just amazing.

  7. Holy shit, I almost had a heart attack. I opened the door to take out composting and there was a man standing there at my door! He was an Amazon delivery guy so he came in peace, but I had not idea that there was someone one the other side when I opened the door and it it startled me greatly.
