Frustrating weekend.
Flannel sheets are on the bed.
County property taxes paid (which is good because they were due 11/15, and not 11/30 as I had assumed); I’m now a bit poorer.
Today I will try and find a suitable 2023 health insurance plan offered through the ACA.
I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was STEAM
Saturday elapsed without me doing Wordle. I pulled it up yesterday and realized my streak was broken and decided I’ll just take a break on Wordle for a bit. I need to let my brain cool off in general.
Excellent 30 something mile ride yesterday on PATH 400 trail, over to Chastain Park and then back down, including food/caffeine stops at Starbucks and The Buttery.
My self-care is cramping my work today. Therapy at 9, massage at 11, dental appointment at 2 to get my dentist to hopefully sign off on my braces coming off soon. I was hoping by Christmas but I think January is more realistic.
We got the keys to my wife’s new rental house. Things are rolling. She moves out after Christmas but can slowly start moving things in. It helps to rent from friends.
Having had that awful (
ooh, that could be a starter[edit: nope, it’s already been used]) Wordle week a month ago my streak is not very long currently. However, I have been doing fairly well, so I am continuing my daily mental workout.Good luck with all of your efforts!
I’ve been reflecting on the casino-like mentality about it reporting your streak, implicitly saying “keep playing, don’t break the chain”. More and more I realize how much I’ve lived my life under the illusion of being in control of things, which maintaining streaks like that perpetuates that fantasy (no judgements for anyone that keeping a streak works for, it just doesn’t work for me any more. I want to be in the moment and not attached to a string of prior moments. I’m still doing the main NYT crossword, but I’m running a few day lag on it, which feels right.
Thanks for the good wishes. In the coming weeks my self-care is going to venture into some new frontiers that I won’t be writing about publicly, but am happy to discuss privately with anyone interested.
I am completely driven at this point with regard to escaping or at least massively mitigating my long-term PTSD. I feel like Richard Dreyfus making his mashed potato mountain in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He couldn’t explain why he was doing it, but he was absolutely compelled to do it.
At one point Jamie and I came to an intersection where a Jeep was waiting on us to go. I told him “We are crossing the Rubicon!” (it was a Jeep Rubicon). Probably way more funny if you’d been there. 😉 But that’s also a metaphor for where I am, I have crossed the Rubicon and there’s no going back.
I realize I made a leap there, Jamie accompanied me on my bike ride yesterday.
I think my streak mentality was broken when I quit Duolingo. As for Wordle all I look at is the bell curve my successes are creating and finding that fascinating (for some reason).
And if you ever want to meet up for lunch in December, let me know. We can talk about anything you want to talk about, or just sit and have lunch.
I’m not worried about the Wordle streaks (or any of those things) – never really thought about it that much. If I’m in the mood, I play the games. I rarely do any of them on the weekends.

not a bad weekend –
Friday night – dinner with some friends at a nearby restaurant – then we hung out on the deck with the chimenea – last halfway warm night for a while – that chimenea will have to be blazing to keep us warm now.
Saturday morning Allan blew leaves – there’s still sooooo many left. Seems more endless this year than the past few years. Went to Norcross for a short walkabout – Social Fox had some decent beers. Then to Cultivation for a Parrothead thing, I think I liked the selection at Social Fox a little better, but the Peanut Roaster Stout was tasty at Cultivation.
Sunday – went to SOB – Little Willy Birthday trail – he outdid himself – almost 4 miles and a couple water crossings that you got your feet wet (barely, but still). Good crowd, nice sunny afternoon (even thought it was a little chilly for circle).
and – its finally Survivor night tonight – Paulie, Sal & I finally have a free night on the same night.
Paulie – I will text you later – need to figure out some dinner.

I care about my Duolingo streak because I’m actually learning something, but I play Wordle so sporadically and on so many devices that a streak is impossible. So it’s good that I don’t care, heh. Solved yesterday’s Wordle at LaGuardia in 6 ugly guesses using STEAL. Ugh.
What a great weekend! We flew up Friday and got to our hotel with plenty of time for a nap before we found some Italian food for dinner and went to see Chicago. The show was excellent! Saturday we took the subway up to Yankee Stadium. The game was AMAZING, so crazy to see 40,000 people wearing Ithaca College gear at Yankee Stadium. Ithaca won, of course. After that we went for drinks and food on the Upper East Side with some of my college buddies. After that we Lyfted back to my girlfriend’s hotel and walked the 10 blocks to our hotel. The route took us through Times Square which was a hoot on a Saturday night! Yesterday we just got up and headed to the airport and hung out in the Skyclub for a couple hours before our flight. OH, it was 70 degrees in NY on Saturday, I was wearing a T-shirt at the game! It was colder here, I think!
Barb, after this trip Delta upgraded me to Gold. HAH!
This morning I spoke with my brother who lives in “the Bronx” and he was telling me how nice the weather was there. We hit freezing yesterday morning, and perhaps again this morning. Today is supposed to be the warmest day of the week?
Yep, I can report that it was quite warm in the Bronx on Saturday! I was pissed because I bought a cute new Ithaca fleece that it was too hot to wear. I’ll just have to wear it here!

I do like the Platinum medallion benefit of auto upgrade to Comfort+. I will not be hating that part (i.e. free booze!), and Allan will love it for the legroom & the free booze.

Yeah, I have the platinum card but I’m just going to cough up for the reserve, since it is a wash financially and the benefits are worth it. It’s complete BS that I’m just now earning Gold when my miles could be going so much further.
Wordle in 3 starting with AISLE. I looked at the mini and just turned tail and ran.
Rode indoors both days this weekend. I’m just not ready for weather so cold you have to think about what to wear. And the wind…
Watched LSU try to lose to Arkansas, watched Alabama play poorly and win and watched UGA win easily.
Off to Savannah tomorrow to the Mighty Eight Museum. Been on the list a long time.

I know you’ll have fun in Savannah! My kids and I make a point of eating at Little Duck Diner every time we’re there. That, and walking as many squares as we can.
I was going to take the scooter, but the forecast was wet and that would be no fun. It’s going to be a fairly short trip- Debbie and I want to do a bigger trip, but I think she has little interest in the 8th museum.
Out clearing some of WLF. Chilly, but warm in the sun. I did not make a friend with the immature snake I uncovered when I jettisoned it out of the farm. I have a healthy respect for snakes, but since I can’t identify them they can’t live in the farm.

After 8 years of living at this farm, I finally removed the “Slow- Children playing” sign the previous owner had on the driveway. I had tried before with just my front end loader, but it didn’t have enough oomph. I finally thought of using a lever and the bucket and out it came.
You didn’t like being referred to as “slow”? 🙂
