In the battle WLB v Nature, I won a round yesterday. Though I’m not happy I did so, I managed to kill one carpenter bee, one white cabbage moth, and two tiny slugs. I would live and let live if these creatures didn’t destroy my property and crops. Nature took one good swing and landed a blow by dispatching an ant to bite me twice on my left arm; the ant bites hurt more than my COVID vaccinations.
My dinner last night was an Aldi convenience meal of miso soup to which I added some WLF bok choy and pak choi. 😋 For the record thus far I’ve eaten radishes, a little lettuce, some Swiss chard, bok choy, and pak choi. I’m hoping that the pea and bean plants come through for me, and I have one or two carrots on which I am keeping my eye as well. Woot! I have some ideas about improving growing conditions, but they will require more purchases. Yesterday I also did some transplanting of pepper and tomato seedlings; my pepper germination has been abysmal this year. I was hoping to sow a couple of potatoes in a big bucket yesterday too, but I reached my exhaustion limit a little earlier than I should have.
Knowing that rain is on its way today, and has already arrived as I type this, I decided to level out the front yard weeds using my hipster mower. While outside I talked to one of my neighbors shortly after he had a load of wood chips delivered; it was an interesting discussion, and he also offered that I could take some of his pile if I so desired.
I had more chores on my list to accomplish last night. However after eating dinner I decided to plop in front of the television and watch some YouTube videos until I dozed off.
Once again I am procrastinating on laundry. At first I thought today’s rain would make an ideal condition for low attendance at the Waschsalon, but then I decided that I didn’t want to go out in the rain either. I also have a lunchtime Zoom call and want to stop at Home Depot to justify going to the old Waschsalon, so tomorrow, tomorrow, I’ll do laundry tomorrow; tomorrow’s only a day away.
Tonight Betsy and I will be doing some Top Chef viewing. We may finally start last year’s season, even though a new season is currently being aired. At some point this year we may even resume watching the episodes at her house instead of watching it in our respective homes and texting during the show.
Hope you are remaining healthy and happy.
A good day yesterday in the orifice. Managed to come up with a solution for the ongoing access issues I was Wireshark-ing. Finally got a switch de-installed. Want to know how much dust collects on a switch that’s been running for years? A lot.
Met the crew for a pre meeting meeting at the Iron Horse in Norcross. Quiet bar with Guinness on draft. Fair food. Meeting at the hotel was half on site and half Zoom, and if I hadn’t been in the office, I would have phoned it in as well. Still nice to see folks and get hugs.
I hope they get the pipeline back up soon. We have gas in vehicles, but I know this is being a PITA for a lot of folks. And I have a meeting at the park Friday afternoon and would like to not worry about getting home!

Yeah, I’m planning to limit my driving this week if possible. That’s one of the reasons I want to batch some chores together tomorrow.
We filled up the cars with gas before we left town, thinking the price would go up a little. And now, the pipeline thing. Good luck in our part. I’d guess it will be all fixed by the time we get hime. Or, I hope.
Looks as if we are not going to get as much rain as originally predicted.
And so far it’s nice and gentle. Not like last week when I saw a horse’s food dish (15″ diameter, heavy rubber) go sailing through the back yard in the current. Debbie eventually found it out by the road! Can’t blame Brownie for that one!
The Giro is going through Bologna today and one guy is at the front of the peloton about 100m waving to the locals like he’s running for office. Must be the home town boy. You hardly ever see that anymore…
Too funny. I’d guess that he’s a local.
Great day hiking yesterday in a slot canyon. No guide needed, only $6 per person fee.
Long drive down a gravel road to the trailhead, the surprise upgrade of the rental to a 4Runner was very nice.
Paulie- no worrying about heights in this, being in the bottom of slot canyon. It was an out & back, but the scenery was so cool, we just kept walking. Plus, very spotty gps service, so the majority of the time my watch wasn’t working. Finally got to a good opening, and we were over 4 miles out. Final was 8.25-8.5 miles. I was beat.
Today we are thinking a few shorter trails, one bring to see Horseshoe Bend. (Since it’s such a famous landmark)
Allan is still sleeping, I’ve been awake since a little after 5 (8am eastern)
Barb, you need to learn how to be unemployed and sleep in! (says the man who rarely sleeps past 5:30am… 😂)
Beautiful pics, Barb. Looked like a lot of fun.
Did y’all have a reservation for the rental car previous to the price changes or is it costing an arm and a leg?
Rental was definitely pricier than it used to be, but you have to pay if you want a car. We were so thrilled to get it upgraded for free. (I guess they didn’t have any standard cars?
I read where rental companies are buying cars at auctions to build their fleets back up.
Selling all the cars during covid is now coming back to bite them. But, just charging more, they make up the difference I guess.
Yesterday at the dealership to get the Accord repaired, it took forever and they offered the husband a free rental car. But… then they didn’t have any to rent. 🤦â€â™€ï¸ I went to pick him up (in Union City) finally and as soon as I got there, the part came in and they fixed the car after all. Wasted, stressful drive. Ugh!
