On the last day of one of the strangest months in all of our lives I am lapping up what will most likely be one of the last cool days we (in the Southeast of the US) encounter for awhile.
Yesterday was a little better.
While I am not 100% healthwise (when am I ever, right?) I managed to get in a good 45-minute workout on the trainer. Hopefully this will be repeated today, or perhaps I’ll get outside for a solo walk instead.
I cooked a supper that was edible, but completely unrecognizable to what was initially intended; because I used tofu instead of “beefâ€, my orange-chili beef turned into more of a orange-flavored mapo tofu. Also, for the second week in a row I failed miserably at cooking a batch of rice, something I used to nail. I even tried rinsing the long-grain rice before cooking it, a step everyone claims is vital, but it made no difference. The resultant pot was a gooey blob of rice. Perhaps I just bought an inferior bag of rice? I think this weekend I’ll put that rice in a rice cooker, or my Instant Pot, and see what is produced.
My biggest issues these days are trying to be productive with my job, while I also attempt to “adult†by solving financial and logistical problems I never expected to encounter as recently as eight weeks ago. Wish me luck, I may need it.
Stay well.
Hugs and four-leaf clovers coming your way today then I guess…
Thanks!
btw- I just watched a YouTube video for vegan mapo tofu. It’ll require a trip to an Asian grocery store, but it looks interesting. Perhaps when we are allowed to drive somewhere together and then eat at the same location again we should attempt it?
logistical problems?
that’s intriguing………
I’ve been trying to figure out this additional noise my car is making, got the tires rotated, that didn’t help, took it to Subaru (burning oil – that wasn’t normal) and they seems to think nothing is wrong. Allan *& decided it might be the wheel bearings? So, took it over to East Cobb Auto – they already called, that is what it is. Cost – about $1000. I guess it happens, but I have never had it happen to me.
Highlight of that car drop off was a quick stop to say hi to Ooops & Deposit, since they live so close (and I needed to give her some irises to plant)
This quarantine is killing him, you know how social he is.
Ugh, sorry about your car.
I can imagine Oops is going crazy and driving Deposit Slit crazy in the process.
“Doctor, doctor, gimme the news…”
Doctor said drink more water, adjust your meds and get out of my office. Good news all around. They ran a strip, which looked fine, HR 61 and O2 99%, so I can’t ask for much better.
Got 40 minutes myself on the trainer while the rain came down.
The MiFi arrived yesterday and it’s even slower than the iPhone. I even went to the trouble of “flying” it off the porch from a 10′ piece of conduit. About to switch back and make sure the network is still there.

Good news Steve, well except for the MiFi. 🤨
good to hear you were probably just dehydrated
I will toot my own horn a bit now… Day 18 of my Swift and SwiftUI training is complete, 82 more days to go!
*Fist bump*
Quick look at the weather forecast shows it’s going to be cloudier than I expected, I think that I’ll be headed to the basement at lunchtime to ride my trainer again.
Another reason not to leave home: Kemp is allowing teen drivers to skip the driving test.
🤯
I keep hearing from parents that kids today don’t even want to get a driver’s license.
🤯🤯
Saw that Lurker, so much for road riding. I was hoping it was a joke but unfortunately in our new world the craziest stuff is real life 🙁
Indeed, Bob. Clearly there’s no bottom here.
maybe Kemp’s daughter wants her license and can’t pass the test? hahahahaha
Exercise done! Treating myself to a bit of lunch before returning to the office.
Trying to get through to the Café (Thursday is chicken and dressing day!) and the line is busy. They are open for limited seating, but that won’t be us. Just to-go, TYFM.
I want to know when the Governor’s mansion will be open for tours!!
Most of these small restaurants just have 1 line, so a busy signal happens too much.
I saw (for a hefty price) you can get your covid test done at CVS.
A friend got 1, she’s negative. I don’t think she’s even sick, but her husband is in a long-term care facility – so I think she will use it to be able to go see him in person.
Fulton and Dekalb counties have started doing volunteer testing by going to randomly selected houses. I know the Fulton County Health Department is doing free testing if you meet certain criteria, and I saw a free drive-through test station in Old Fourth Ward last weekend. So testing is expanding slowly. That’s a bit egregious to have to pay $95 for the test, but given that it’s CVS, that doesn’t surprise me one bit.
I guess that test result would only be good for one visit, correct?
I have no idea how long it is good – but – that is just my guess as to why she went & paid $95 for the test.
its bad enough he has some crazy brain disease, but to not be able to visit – that is so heartbreaking.
Are you back in the office now Steve?
No, not me!! Trying to suffer through the hell of online in a weak area. We’re WFH through June 1, at least.
Ah, I read “Café†and thought it was an office cafeteria.
