Baby it’s cold outside again…

Trail done, phew. Nine people braved the cold to trot around Candler Park / midtown for three miles before ending at Victory Sandwich Shop.

Tuesday Tale of the Tape: 211.2 pounds (+0.4 from last week’s weigh-in), 🐀🐀🐀

Ahhhh I had such good intentions of making it out but then I got into my warm and cozy home and, yeah. Stayed there. Settled in and watched a new show on I’m recording called “The Bush Years”
(https://www.cnn.com/shows/the-bush-years) – CNN 9pm Sun. I love shows like these.

A friend from Minneapolis is in town for a conference tomorrow-Sat and I’m a little bummed for her that our whether has turned cold again. Warmer than up there, but still. We’re going to try to get together one night this week. At first we planned Friday but that looks like a rain day, so I’m hoping we can move it so I at least can show her some Atlanta scenes. I’m thinking Skyview, MLK Center, the view from Jackson St. bridge, maybe a pop into Church for a drink? Yes, all touristy stuff but, well, she’s a tourist. 🙂

Tomorrow I am playing hooky from work to do a Focus Group survey on “Social Issues”… now THAT should be interesting. It’s in the Buckheads, but only a couple blocks from the MARTA so I’ll do that instead of drive. I figure for $200 (plus free breakfast and lunch), it was a no-brainer to take one of my many PTO days to do it. Hullo, vacation money. (it’s 73 days ’til vacation…not that I’m counting or anything) 😉

HAPPY MARDIS GRAS, my friends! Anyone whoopin’ it up tonight?

    • barb says:

Oh the good ole days when I’d take the day off with some friends, and we’d pub crawl our way around to the city’s few mardi gras parties!! Nope – I’m at work & will be at home tonight finishing packing & possibly running an errand because I forgot something. (not like there isn’t stores in CA……)

    • Stacy Fox says:

      *weather, of course. 🙂

    • ITP Lurker says:

Stacy, I did both Skyview this past weekend, and rode the elevator to the top of the Peachtree Plaza for the first time in 30 years. Hands down I’d recommend Peachtree Plaza over Skyview, unless you just particularly have a thing for ferris wheels. You can pay $8 to ride the elevator up to the 72nd floor and hang as long as you want, or pay $15/head for a ferris wheel ride that mostly involves letting other people get on or off the ride. Plus there’s a bar option up there. Skyview isn’t really much of a view as it’s 20 stories high, supposedly (didn’t feel that way). Being 72 floors up definitely makes a difference.

Also, in my recent Beltline manifesto I forgot to include a shoutout to the fox that lives in a field below the trail, west of Boulevard and before the Beacon complex. I’ve only seen him/her once, but what a gorgeous animal.

      • Stacy Fox says:

You mean the Westin, right? Yeah, that’s a good idea too. I just took another friend there a couple months ago which is why I probably blanked on doing it again. Also, a tip: if you buy at least a cocktail up there, you don’t have to pay for the trip!

Imma need to know more about this Beltline fox! 🙂 Perhaps I’ll go out and try to find him this weekend.

        • ITP Lurker says:

Yeah, I’m old school, it’ll always be the Peachtree Plaza in my head. And my companion wasn’t of legal age, so I just opted for the view. 🙂 There’s no booze on the ferris wheel unless you bootleg it in.

I’ve only seen the fox once, but if you’re doing west from Boulevard, there’s some woods, and then a stretch on the right where there’s kind of a swampy looking flat area. The fox was hanging out in that area.

          • Stacy Fox says:

I’ve done the Ferris Wheel twice: once at night, and once in day. I like it. 🙂 But you’re definitely correct that the Westin is the better value. Maybe we’ll do that instead! Cocktails don’t have to be alcoholic either (though let’s face it: mine would be).

          • ITP Lurker says:

What are these non-alcoholic cocktails you speak of? 😉 We were amidst an 8 mile city hike, and cocktails of any sort 2 1/2 miles in would have been a bad call. Personally I don’t have the liver of a hasher. 😉

If you happen to opt for the ferris wheel and the Westin, do them in that order. I probably would like liked the ferris wheel better if I hadn’t just been up 50 stories higher. So there’s that.

  2. I’m whooping it up at the Waschsalon now, and then at German class tonight. Whoop whoop!

  3. barb says:

glad to hear the trail worked out ok.

I worked on packing, we leave tomorrow evening for CA wine country!
Weather doesn’t look that great – 50s & rainy – but hey -we will be in & out of wineries – so who cares!!! Trying to find all my travel things – since its a 4.5 hour flight – I need the neck thing, etc. One good thing about a long flight- I get to watch a movie or 2 that I haven’t seen, and possibly would never see.

  4. Bonnie says:

I thought it was a nice trail last night, thanks again! 🙂

Already back in the office after getting my head examined this morning. A bit woozie (er). No dye contrast, just a half hour or so in the machine. I JUST made the 7:15 appointment- not that 5 or 10 minutes would have made a difference. I don’t know how people do that drive daily. U.G.L.Y. And it wasn’t raining or a bad traffic day.

Glad trail went well. I was tied up with babysitting a contractor yesterday so I missed lunch. Stopped by a Taco Smell on the way home and called that dinner. (blech) Once I was home and took care of the ponies, I was a slug. Not tonight, though.

“Taco Smell” falls into the category of things I do periodically to remind myself why I don’t do said things. 🙂

      • barb says:

come on people – the Mexican Pizza is pretty good!!!!!
        or a hard shell taco.
        that’s all I order there.

        • ITP Lurker says:

          More for you, Barb. 🙂

I wasn’t dissing Taco Bell specifically, although I couldn’t name the last time I ate at one, which means it’s been decades. I have my own places that I default into upon occasion and then remember, oh, yeah, bad call…

        • barb says:

I’m really joking, but Allan has a love of the Taco Hell – somehow it seems that every bike shop he worked at had one practically in the same parking lot. I find it like all fast food – just food.
My go to fast food is the Hardee’s hot ham & cheese.

  6. Oh boy, “XYZ Corp” just put the fat in my Fat Tuesday and added two pounds to my body by providing King Cake from Alon’s Bakery. Aaaaaaayyyeeeee it was delicious.

And if there was a baby in the cake I didn’t get it. 😁
