Trying to subscribe to a new lifestyle — “Experiences over Possessions†— wish me well.
Fun night at a fundraiser at Wild Heaven Brewery for Goethe before returning home to watch the Falcons game, currently being played as I type this.
One game into the season and I think I am already done with watching NFL games…
And now I am up at 5:30 to watch a sport that does interest me — Australian Rugby.
Opposite of you, I think I’m going to be enjoying the NFL much more this year. I’m playing Fantasy Football for the first time in years. That makes every game so much more interesting.
Sorry for your loss there, Falcons fans reading this. But thanks Matt Bryant for the points. My one Falcon.
I declined Fantasy Football because it makes me hate the game – I wind up rooting against players/teams I like, and for players/teams I don’t.
that’s exactly why Allan quit fantasy football – hated rooting for people he didn’t “really” want to do well.
And it’s exactly why I wanted to play! 🙂 So the other games wouldn’t bore me so much.
Yet again I’m reminded of how me not caring at all about watching sports frees up a tremendous amount of time for me. 😉 No judgments against anyone that does like sports, I’ve just found the silver lining from not being exposed to sports in my childhood. 🙂
Wow, that was one helluva rugby match!
Good group of people at 57th Fighter Group last night, it was good to meet Proof’s 3 daughters, and of course be there for Pot.
Watched a lot of private jets take off & land – what a lifestyle.
Had some beer cheese soup, it was very cheesy, I didn’t taste any beer.
It would have been lovely with a pretzel, they really need those on the menu.
and – beer prices were quite reasonable there we all noticed.
I’d like nothing more than to be able to live out of a backpack at this stage in my life and have hardly any possessions. I too am seeking out experiences, I’m feeling suffocated by my possessions.
I used to think how cool it would be to live on a sailboat – but I don’t know if I could live with that few of “things”.
I like having choices of jeans, pants, shirts & shoes.
A sailboat would be way too confining to me. Yes, you can roam the world, but for much of it you’re confined in a tiny space. I want minimal possessions but the ability to roam on foot or wheels.
Three years in the Navy cured me of cruises, sailboats, and the like. 🙂
Navy?
What was your rating/job description, etc?

I was a Storekeeper (supply person). Despite both not teaching me to swim *and* instilling a water phobia, my parents made me enlist in the Navy when I turned 17. They actually did me a solid, that was the best thing they could have done for me. Given the circumstances I picked a job about as deep inside the ship as I could get without being in engineering. I made it to E5 by the end of my 3 year enlistment.
I was on the USS Nicholas (FFG-47). I was part of the commissioning crew, and then 30 years later saw the ship get decommissioned.
Picked? 🙂
I was in school at Tech, studying to be an “engineer”, got drafted and joined the Navy.
“Engineering! Have we got a deal for you! We’ve got an entire department that’s nothing but engineering! Sign here….”
Through pure luck, I was sent to “A” School for firefighting and was assigned to a carrier (2-3 fire/day average).
Sounds like you had a cool job! I’ll bet you didn’t want for anything! (“ComShaw…”)

Possessions and square footage stress me out. I think I would thrive in a tiny-ish house. Some things would initially be hard to part with, and there would be an adjustment period, but I think eventually you forget your old stuff and forget you ever had it. I get truly giddy when I tour tiny houses. Not saying 150 s.f. is realistic, but my heart does start to beat a little faster. 🙂.
I’ve always thought living in a tiny house would be super cool. Maximum use of space, a place for everything.
I used to have a bunch of books on that subject I’d collected over the years, but I got rid of them when we moved.

There are tons of “living on a sailboat and sailing around the world” Youtube channels.
I think Delos is one of the best:

and – I’d probably get seasick……. so sailing the world may not be the best thing for me.
But – If I had the chance, I’d like to try.

Done with my shift at Yellow Daisy. Kilts are not warm weather clothing. I might have melted a bit.
My new block and tackle was defeated by the stump. I have a possible equipment failure or operator error. Now to the greatest hardware store in the universe. ( Handy Hardware in Tucker) for some rope.

I get that Scotland isn’t exactly tropical and that authentic kilts are probably made from wool, but I would have guessed that kilts provide a comforting air flow that would be appreciated by the wearer.
