Not such a typical day in Canada yesterday:
– on our way to lunch we saw a big brown Lab wandering the streets so Tamara stopped and reunited it with its owner; happy ending.
– we ate delicious (East) Indian food at a buffet; full ending.
– I did not walk as much as I needed; sad ending.
– we tried a new thing called “Pub Choir” in which a group of people show up at a bar, pay $8, and sing a song as a choir within an hour. The song we sang was selected via FB and was Petula Clark‘s “Downtown”; interesting ending.

Speaking of endings, like many of America’s malls the one closest to Tamara’s house is scheduled for demolition and the world will be losing another bowling alley.

The “Pub Choir” sounds like a hoot. In my early 20’s, I was a regular at Churchill Arms in Buckhead. There on Friday and Saturday nights, a lady would play piano and we’d stand around and sing. It was great fun and I learned many lyrics to American standards, much to Debbie’s chagrin (and loathing of my satellite radio choices).

I got a very hot 16 miles in last night. Amazing the difference in temperature between pavement and gravel.

This may be my Friday… if Sam gets done with jury duty.

    • It was definitely a fun “once in a while” thing to do. There was a guy playing keyboard and instructing us as well. Supposedly a video was captured singing the song at the end, if that surfaces I will link to it.

Oh the fun days of Churchill Arms & sing-alongs. I do remember those in the early mid 90s. I was watching a TV show (Younger) that is in NYC, and the girls were depressed, so they went to a bar that was a sing-along bar – thinking, you can’t stay depressed singing slow tunes!

Is there such thing as West Indian food? Curious why you keep pointing out it is East Indian. What’s the difference?

That Pub Choir thing sounds fun!

I’m currently poking around trying to find happy hours in Atlanta tonight. A friend of mine works at the Mart and since it’s a big show time, she stays downtown. Just trying to find something unique-to-me. Turns out I drink a lot and am having trouble there (haha) 😉

Fun weekend planned. Friday = nada (yes, that’s fun for me) Saturday I’m volunteering for The Kid in All of Us at Piedmont Park. Admission is a filled backpack of school supplies. Cool concept right? I’m going to be serving drinks and stuff but I’ve a backpack to donate too. It’s got cute little emojis all over it. 🙂

Sunday you’ll find me in some establishment watching the World Cup finale (where are we going folks???) and then I might actually make the SOB #666 hash because fun. (and close to the hood)

    • Canadians refer to those from India as “East Indians” I guess to distinguish them from those who lived in this country prior to Europeans moving in. I suppose it’s the opposite of us saying “Native Americans”.

    • Barb says:

don’t you have a busy weekend! Not sure what we are doing, but Allan has to work the Atlanta United game Sunday afternoon, is it at the same time as the World Cup finale???? That’s bad luck if it is.

We need to get a bike ride or 2 in at some point.

      • Stacy says:

No, WC is 11am. 🙂 Should get me nice and tipsy enough and to SOB on time. haha

        • 9am here, but I will most likely be packing up a tent and returning from Edmonton’s “Annual General Piss Up” hash during the game.

        • Barb says:

let me know where you decide to watch, since Allan has to come into town anyway, maybe we will check out the wild crowds???!!!

          • Stacy says:

Barb, that’d be awesome! (to watch together) The bigger question is who will serve alcohol that early?

          • Barb says:

on Sunday? I know they passed the brunch bill, but don’t all the individual cities/counties etc still have to vote on it?

          • Stacy says:

DID THE BRUNCH BILL ACTUALLY PASS? OMG!!! I thought it was still on hold.

And yeah… I think WC games have been exceptions to the Sunday rules.

Stacy, have you been here? http://www.55thpark.com/

Happy hour is Weds-Friday 4:55 PM to 6:55 PM. Way back in the day that space was a place called Carnegie’s. I haven’t been in decades. My wife used to work in that building. At the time we both worked for the same company, but my office was a stone’s throw from XYZ Corp’s location. After-work happy hours with colleagues at Carnegie’s led to us dating, and then the rest is history. We’re going to schedule a lunch there some time, just to go back to where it all began.

      • Google Maps says it’s a mere 36-hour car ride, 9-day cycle, or 31-day walk from Edmonton. I’d best get started now if I want to make it for happy hour. 😂

      • Barb says:

that place looks interesting. too bad I so rarely get downtown.

      • Steve says:

We used to occupy 2 floors at 55 Park Place “back in the day”. No wonder that sounded familiar. And the top floors at Equitable. Another reason for building our own building…

      • Stacy says:

Snap! Okay, I swear I was *just* checking out that place this morning (website anyway). Got concerned when the cocktail menu link came up a big 404 Page Not Found. 😉 I’ll have to see if my friend wants to check it out!

And what a great story. 🙂 I love hearing how people met.

        • ITP Lurker says:

Please do let us know what you think if you go. Too funny that you were already checking it out this morning. It’s been on my radar ever since I went bike riding in Woodruff Park earlier this year.

          • Stacy says:

We’re definitely going. 5:30-6ish tonight if any ITP readers find themselves downtown and want to pop on in and join us. 🙂

  3. Barb says:

Old malls – our idea is we buy one & use it for our “when we are all old & don’t have kids” complex! Think about it – there’s plenty of plumbing I’d think, we could build whatever size apartment we’d need (those walls are obviously easy to move as we see stores change all the time) – wouldn’t that be fun? And- finding one with a bowling alley would be quite the plus!
Speaking of bowling – we should plan an outing????

  4. Sitting and having a beer at Alley Kat Brewing before I have to start the 4 km (2.5 mi) walk back to Tamara’s house.

  5. Barb says:

Allan is now working the Book Of Mormon on Thursday 7/19 – I think I’ll have him get me a ticket (at the box office, the damn extra charges are just way too much).
The actual tickets aren’t quite a crazy high priced as I thought they might be.
Anyone else want to go that night?
