Rain, and the threat thereof, caused me to wait until today to mow the lawn (or at least try to because it’s too dark to see how wet the grass is) before I skip town. Well, I just went outside and felt the grass and as I fear it’s way to wet to cut. Dangen! Guess I’ll try to find time upon my return…
Looks like my eyes will be to the sky most of the weekend at LEAF.
Today marks my 21st anniversary since moving to Atlanta. Well, I started out on the 11th and arrived on 12th. That was back in the day when companies actually paid for your moving expenses and it included a hotel stay, which I did in grand ol’ Paducah, Kentucky. Twenty-one years! Still haven’t been “longer here” than “longer there” but it’s getting close.
Happy weekends to all of you! Mine’s super low key, starting with a half day off work this afternoon to go get the eyeballs checked and the next round of contact lenses. After that, it’s a lot of cleaning. I’ve volunteered to host an all-ladies Royal Wedding viewing next weekend (hahaha if that’s not a chick thing, I don’t know what is!) …and my place is a disaster. Better pick up some more wine and start tackling it now.
Before I knew my ex, she got up at 04:00 to watch Charles and Dianna. She did have a Masters in British History, though. I might watch, as I do lurv me some pomp and circumstance (cue the Elgar). I think being raised Catholic has something to do with that.
I was raised Catholic too…. you may be on to something there, Steve!
I know the feeling, I moved to Atlanta in 1986, planning to stay for 5 years and move on but it’s been 32, and I’m not planning on leaving any time soon. I think part of why I planned to only stay 5 years is because my father worked for IBM (I’ve been moved) and that was roughly as often as we moved, so that’s what I knew then. I came to Atlanta originally because it was close enough and far enough from my parents, but it suits me. I started out slightly OTP back before OTP was a thing, but most of my time has been very much ITP.
I have no opinion either way on royal weddings, but enjoy! Whatever helps you get your place in shape, right? 😉
That’s exactly how I’m looking at it, Lurker. And plan B is just to have enough mimosa fixins that they don’t notice the mess.
I’ve been all over Atlanta metro: Doraville, Decatur, Woodstock, Buford and now “real” Atlanta for the longest of periods and the place I’ve loved the most. I’ll never move OTP again if I can help it.
No disrespect to Barb, but it’d be soul-crushing for me to live OTP. I’ve pretty much steadily moved inward: Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Midtown, rolled backwards a little to Buckhead, then onward to Grant Park. I can’t get much more inside the perimeter than this! 🙂
We seriously started our 1st house search ITP, but at the time what we could afford was crap compared to OTP. We needed a big enough place for lots of bikes & tools, and couldn’t find anything “safe†enough. But, it would be awesome to live ITP, but I don’t want the crazy taxes at this point.
Yeah, if space is what you want/need, OTP is it. I’ve been in Atlanta long enough to remember that Grant Park was a no-man’s land. So much has changed.
ITP property taxes can be managed via property tax appeals. The City tried to screw me the first year in my current house, but I fought back and it’s been reasonable ever since. I think a reckoning might be happening this year though in that regard. But, thanks to Trump my income taxes will go down by 30% this year, so I’ll still come out way ahead. I think the Republicans are going to screw us by making the national debt astronomical, but I’m also not going to send more than I have to along to the IRS.
Have fun! I haven’t looked at the forecast, as I think my schedule is booked and it doesn’t include much outside time.
Terri needs to come more frequently, if nothing more than to inspire us to clean the house! And now we actually have a guest room again. Only one though- don’t press your luck for getting them both online.
I was searching for a new podcast to listen to and found something that was supposed to be funny. 20 minutes and no laughs had me moving on. Does anyone have some can’t miss podcasts they would recommend?
Terri arrives this afternoon. We’ll take her to dinner before her run tomorrow. Lunch with Debbie’s mom and family tomorrow, then traditional sushi with Terri. Sunday has Debbie leaving for FL at some point. Maybe a bike ride if I can get tires to hold air!
Have a great weekend. Safe travels Barb and Paulie. And happy birthday Momma Blank!

I’ve found the Ear Hustle podcast to be very well done: . Most of the podcasts I listen to are serious in nature, such as PRI’s The World. If you happen to listen to NPR’s Fresh Air, the episode where Terri Gross gets interviewed is phenomenal. I also listen to the Death, Sex, and Money podcast and found the interview with Ellen Burstyn to be truly inspiring.
Seems like trying to find a funny podcast would be a tall order, but the Savage Lovecast is most definitely an entertaining way to live vicariously.
Steve….. why do you think we invite people over all the time? To force cleaning!
So, Steve, I crafted a fancy comment with links that it stuck in moderation, so here’s a plain text version. Google searches will quickly unearth everything:

Thanks, Lurker. I’m a regular listener of most things NPR/PRI, but fresh Air doesn’t really do it for me unless the guest is specifically something I’m interested in. As my listening is in 20 minute blocks, I like shorter pieces or those that can be interrupted. Car Talk and Only a Game are on subscription.
I’m with you on Fresh Air. When it’s good it’s *really* good, but otherwise I mostly treat it as a insomnia cure. 🙂
Oh, the Masters ticket lottery is now open for the 2019 tournament. http://www.masters.com/en_US/index.html
I’m not smart enough, where you only the website is it?
I struggled too, you have to look under More, and then Tickets. Here’s a direct link:

Clearly they don’t have to care about customer service.
Where on the….. damn auto correct.
Glad to have a mostly clean house – our bedroom and bathroom didn’t get the treatment yet.
I wish we had a rodent-free house. Brownie dispatched mouse number one (and left its remains on the living room rug for me to discover.) He’s now obsessed with mouse number 2 and wrecks the kitchen/laundry room area every morning trying to catch the little bastard.
I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before he takes it out, but we’ve got to figure out how to stop the invasion.
Enjoy Leaf Paulie! Look forward to tales
from it when you return.
