In your opinion, is it worse to throw trash into a recycling bin, or recycling into a trash bin?
Made my inaugural Instant Pot meal last night: Spicy Peanut Soup With Sweet Potato And Kale. I freewheeled and used almond butter instead of peanut butter, and may have added more than I should have. Tasty, especially after cooling down and becoming a bit less liquidy. Sadly, the photos I thought of taking of the process and output never materialized — I was too hungry.

Far, far better to throw recycling into the trash bin:

Ugh.
I feel like such a shitty human, and that my effort to save/improve this world are moot. Sometimes I think that the only thing that I have done to help is be unable to find a woman with whom reproduction was an option.
Well, that’s not true either. You’re just human, no other qualification needed. We’re all trying to do our best here in this life and even the best laid plans often go awry. That article I shared is a few years old, just the first thing I could grab. I read that late last year China ratcheted up their “purity” standard for accepting recyclables to something like 98% or higher. They don’t want our trash.
So knock off the “I feel like such a ____” business. You’re just Paulie. Nothing shitty about you. I know old habits die hard, hence the reminder here.
Trash into a recycling bin is definitely a party foul. Recycling into the trash happens daily.
More Hello Fresh! meals arrived yesterday. Pork lion with fig jam, roasted Yukon Gold tatties and green beans. Not as good as our usual port lion, but still pretty tasty. So handy to have all ingredients right there and ready to rock.
Pouring rain when I left the house this morning. Brownie normally goes out when I do, and I let him out this morning. After a quick wiz, came right back in so I could dry him off- such a smart boy.

I’m still not sold on the “convenience dinners delivered to your door†concept, but then again what do I know. Still feeling burned by WebVan? Perhaps…
Speaking of figs, I need to find some (pitted and dried) for a future recipe. See also: agave nectar. I have a feeling KroBar sells both, but I have no idea where to find them in that massive store. I searched high and low for in the honey aisle for the agave nectar to no avail yesterday.
Figs should be with the pie fruit fillings. I always thought agave nectar was tequila, so maybe I’m confused.
Maybe I am using the wrong terminology? I mean whatever the vegan alternative to honey is. No, I am not going vegan (or even full-time vegetarian), but I am trying to see if I can adapt a recipe for someone who is vegan.
Agave nectar is a sweetener commercially produced from several species of agave, including Agave tequilana (blue agave) and Agave salmiana. Agave syrup is sweeter than honey and tends to be less viscous. Most agave syrup comes from Mexico and South Africa. Agave syrup (sweetener).
Pancake syrup aisle would be my guess.
Agave nectar is in the sugar area at our Kroger with all the other sugar substitutes.
I was a Webvan fan, we were just ahead of our time.
I’m really enjoying the meal kits as I despise grocery shopping. I think we’re eating more well balanced meals with little to no waste. Also coming out at least even if not ahead cost wise. Win, win, win.
Hmmm, looked in the maple syrup and pancake aisle too, but didn’t think look near sugar. Will try that next time.
I like grocery shopping, checking out at the grocery store is the part that annoys the heck out of me.
Maybe it’s simply not “right for me†service.
And that’s what makes the world go round. The chairman of Whole Foods spoke at a conference I attended last weekend. He said the future of produce is that consumers will be able to get what they want, where they want it at a price they’re willing to pay. Edging ever closer to the Jetsons lifestyle. I wanted to ask if that pertained to those of us that live in the sticks, but I’m guessing not unless drones are involved.
Ubereats is my new favorite travel perk. Also not an option in Luthersville. Our drive thru liquor store remains our only convenience.
Just received an email telling me that Tony Bennett will be in concert on July 24. If I am not in Iowa perhaps I will attend; who knows how many chances at this remain…
I saw that yesterday… sadly, the other part of the act is his daughter, whose only claim to fame is her last name is Bennett.
if this damn job offer would materialize – so I can decide – but it hasn’t.
So – Iowa is maybe off the table, but then, maybe not???
Q: “Is it worse to throw trash into a recycling bin, or recycling into a trash bin?”
A: It is worse to throw recycling into a trash bin… Trash is (typically) sent to the landfill. Where it remains…forever. On the other hand, trash in the recycling bin is removed when the recycling is sorted to remove…wait for it…non-recyclables, AKA…trash.
In other news, Gibbs Gardens, home to 20,000,000 daffodils, has opened for Spring. Plantings are staged to bloom in waves of early, mid and late bloomers. Try to get up there, it’s a sight to behold. A photo from 2016:

Not always, as I’ve read. The price for recyclables fluctuates and when it goes down, there’s no money to pay people to sift, which means contaminated loads of recycling go into the landfill. I still stand by my contention far better to sometimes throw away a recyclable versus contaminating a recycle bin with trash.
And speaking of HwC, Barb, do we need to schedule lunch before you head to the other side of town?
Yeah, a “Short-timer’s Long Lunchâ€? 🙂 And if you want my participation it can’t be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday of next week as I will be at a conference here in town – more on this later in the week.
We will be living for Colorado (skiing! I just bought new goggles today) on Thursday next week.
but – maybe later in the week after – depending on this job offer, I have a feeling the new start date will be 3/26 at this point.

Lunch!

This is bizarre. After a thorough scrubbing of my hands last night and a shower this morning, my tongue still burns a bit when I touch it using the fingers that deseeded the jalapeño pepper last night.
Well, don’t rub your eyes!!
Done with a half hour on the watt bike- last 2 minutes at 300W out of the saddle. I’m starting to “like” this machine.
Much easier said than done…
busy day – then to the eye doctor for my long lunch.
getting all the doctor visits in now – since it looks like my benefits run out at the end of the month I quit.
