Frustrating visit to LA Fitness yesterday.
- My workout was not great (some days are better than others of course).
- One of my genetic deficiencies is acting up (it was nice feeling pseudo-normal for a while).
- The remnants of one of my water bottles leaked onto my jeans making the crotch wet (good thing there was a hair dryer in the locker room so I could dry the pants a little).
I finished my night by making vegetarian chili, watching an episode of “Monkâ€, and then passing out super-early in bed.
Going to Creative Mornings again, not volunteering this time however. Since I am still sporting a gray beard let’s see how often I get referred to as “sir†today.
Might have to give up on Creative Mornings, or at least hoping that I will ever fit in with this (younger) crowd. I had hoped volunteering would get me an “inâ€, that I’d be accepted, but alas that hasn’t worked out.
Sometimes I feel as if I should exile myself. Ah the life of the painfully introverted…
As my therapist told me this week, being alone is an illusion. We’re all inextricably connected to others. I didn’t want to accept that when she told me, but I’ve had a couple of days for it to seep into my granite skull. She’s right. We’re only as alone as we want to be. You’re not off in a unabomber cabin. There’s that.
Tiny Doors? 🙂
Yep!
I wrote that without seeing your comment.
Age-appropriateness really does make a difference when feeling like you’re fitting in. I know I don’t like to hang out or go places with “the younger” crowd anymore these days either.
I like older crowds. Like the hashers one that’ll be at Moe’s & Joe’s tonight. 🙂 hint hint
Can’t make it to Moe’s & Joe’s tonight – it has turned into a bike maintenance night – Mango (aka John) needs his brakes bled.
so – it will be a Tasty China evening on the deck – if any of you are in Marietta tonight.
Speaking of TC, Debbie and I stopped in the other Saturday on the way back from the Bose store. Still a lot of white kids running the place. What’s the deal there? The food was still pretty good- Debbie got Salt and Pepper Shrimp, which she thought were as good as always, and I got a “pork with garlic”? that was pretty hot and only got hotter the next day. YEEEOOOW!
So sir, were you specifically seated in the handicap section? Too many people called you “sir”? News flash, my friend- while we are not exactly old, we’re certainly not young. If you think that’s a requirement for being successful/fitting in then we’re both done.
A quiet night of leftovers and Olympics last night. Had to open the windows to get the house to cool off when we went to be and slept like a rock.
I’m hopefully no longer an international criminal. The Irish Po Po returned my paperwork and check, and Wells Fargo told me I could redeposit the check without penalty other than difference in exchange rate. I’ve emailed all the filled out paperwork and my Visa card. Let’s hope…

You should reconsider being offended by being called sir, it is a sign of respect. You are old, lean in to it 🙂 You can still do stuff with the younger crowds but you will be the respected elder and boss those little punks around.
Sitting at the dealer getting work done on my truck $$$$$. Fox news is on in the lobby and it is so painful. I’m really tired of the political us versus them crap. This country is so divided it makes me sad. Everybody needs to just ride bikes, drink beer, and chill the hell out.
Goddamn, amen, Bob!!!! The words of Rodney King will forever ring in my ears “Can’t we all just get along?”
We had dinner with the in laws – on Kevin’s birthday. Not sure if that would make him happy, or not. But – with his new gig of being a person mechanic for Tejay (& other racers from Girona) he is actually home a lot more, so he got to spend his birthday with his family. I guess that was fun for the family – not a Facetime/Skype call for a change.
Back from CM. Ran into a old, young friend Ashlee (aka “Au Whatta Pairâ€) there so it wasn’t as painful as I feared.
Tiny Doors Atl creator gave an entertaining presentation which also helped.
The Tiny Doors creator lives in Reynoldstown. We have friends who live in her condo complex, and I ended up having a very cool conversation with her in the swimming pool last summer. It was a huge win for me to overcome my social anxiety in that moment and just be. Showed me that it is possible, I can do this. You can too, Paulie.
For the record I have wanted two things out of life:
1. A partner with whom I could share it (I have failed)
2. To fit in (a life-long struggle, satisfied thus far only by hashing)
Are you writing this from beyond the grave? If not, then you haven’t failed. It’s still on your horizon. There is massive power in intention setting. If you make it a foregone conclusion that you’re going to find a mate, then you’ll start making tiny, imperceptible moves in that direction. And one day, you’ll find her. And all of the previous years of angst will just vanish. You’ll see. Set an intention. It’ll come about when you least expect it.
Fit in?? Booooring! Remember, you are unique, just like everybody else.
Fitting in is so fucking overrated. Said the person who purposefully kinda, sorta, maybe fits in here. 🙂
^^^ this made me smile. a lot.
Awww, thank you.
I second that..
Thank you, Steve.
great answer Lurker – we all don’t fit in many places, just need find the places that we do. (or really, the people)
Thanks, Barb. Things often aren’t as they appear, meaning we think we don’t fit when really we’re just as jangled up as everyone else. I’m finally starting to come to terms with that. All a matter of getting out of our own damn way sometimes…
“The remnants of one of my water bottles leaked onto my jeans making the crotch wet (good thing there was a hair dryer in the locker room so I could dry the pants a little).”
I spy, with my little eye, a new hash name…”Wet Little Crotch”. Rim shot, I’m here all week, folks, please tip your servers.
ahhhh – a comedy club memory – I need to go see some comedy again.
The sign says Punchline on Delk Rd – but I have no idea when they will ever open.
