Live By The Sword, Die By The Sword

I fully expected to be writing this blog post while seated at the Waschsalon. I arrived early, as I am wont to do, and the hoofed it down to Krispy Kreme where I consumed a “New York Cheesecake” doughnut before hoofing it back to the Waschsalon with a cup of coffee. My plan fizzled out when after waiting for fifteen minutes past the advertised opening time there was still no sight of the employee responsible for opening the doors. Harumph!

When Starting Your Day In Midtown
And I wonder why I don’t lose weight…

Three Early, And Wise, Men
Tardiness was not the case yesterday when ITP-Readers John and Steve, and myself were at the corner of Crescent and 11th before our agreed upon meetup time.

John drove us to OK Cafe where we were met by ITP-Reader Barb and Allan for a lovely, and rather filling, lunch. In case you are wondering I ate the meatloaf Blue Plate with sides of macaroni & cheese, and a baked sweet potato. And I wonder why I don’t lose weight…

Mehr Deutsch Bitte
(More German Please)

Last night’s German class was okay, though I am still not dedicating enough time to mastering the language.

This term one of my cohorts and I have been grabbing a few beers post class — great just what I need, another outlet for beer drinking. 😉 And I wonder why I don’t lose weight…

Last night we wandered from Colony Square over to Front Page News. On our way two very attractive, but married, ladies asked us if we knew where Crescent Avenue was. Of course we did, we were headed there ourselves. My cohort tried to chat them up as we wandered to the bar. He was dressed nicely in a white shirt and tie while I looked like a 52-year-old schoolboy wearing a backpack and ill-fitting clothes. They were from out of town, one from Seattle, the other from Dallas. They were in Atlanta for work, though I did not here which industry. They were looking for cocktails, not beer, and had already eaten at South City Kitchen. Blah, blah, blah. My cohort, who lives in the neighborhood, gave them the low-down on all of the bars/restaurants along the stree. At Front Page News my cohort asked me “Were you afraid to talk to the women?”. “No, I noticed that they were married and that they had little interest in joining us for a drink, so I didn’t want to waste the effort.” I answered. My answer was heartfelt, but I some times wonder “Perhaps if I would just lose some weight…”. Nah it’d make no difference!

Now that I am in the office of “XYZ Corp” I should get some work done. Make it a great day my friends.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

You are way missing the point here. Chatting up married women in a situation like that is *EXACTLY* what you need to do. It’s not about connecting with them, it’s getting some practice in so that when you do run across a lass that strikes your fancy/meets your criteria then you’re not so fucking paralyzed, because well, you *NEVER* talk to women you don’t know. Practice with people you know you’ll never see again, learn from it (what worked? what didn’t?), and up your game.

See, here I am practicing. You don’t know me. But I’m finding my voice. You can find yours too.

    • Good point. Sometimes I am too pragmatic, yes I think that is the word I want, for my own good.

      • ITP Lurker says:

Just like me, you’re 52, but still “new here” in so many ways. Cut yourself some slack, get past the newness in throw-away situations so that eventually you don’t feel so out of your realm. And remember, *EVERYONE* else is cutting you *WAY* more slack than you cut yourself. Since I’m on a tear here, regarding your constant demeaning of yourself (52-year old school kid, yada, yada), if *YOU* can’t love yourself, why should anyone else? It’s good to be a 52 year old school kid. Own it. Be you. Being unhappy with one’s self presents an invisible shield that everyone else can see, but we personally cannot. And then we wonder why no one comes near…

“Life is a game, and the game is played with people…”
(You’d better be good at it.)

Every day, every interaction, no matter how small/insignificant, is a chance to practice to get better at being “good at it”. Ordering a beer, washing clothes, in the grocery line, anywhere, everywhere.

There’s an 86 year old lady that works at our Publix. She only works part time. If she’s there, I go through her line, no matter how long it may be. We always chat. Her name is Peggy but I always call her “Ms. Curtis”. I talk to her selfishly. I enjoying knowing her.

          Lastly:
“Being unhappy with one’s self presents an invisible shield that everyone else can see…”

          Amen.

Isn’t the whole “make it a nice day” deal the core of it all? No matter what comes your way (and it all comes everybody’s way)…make the best of it.

Look at Steve. A more awkward and unattractive man, you will not easily find. Yet, somehow…Steve gets by. Everyday. <– John make joke.

…and a fun lunch at OK Cafe it was! It was good to see everybody and meet Allan.

The troublesome HVAC unit back online (I could find no cause for the overflow pan to, well…overflow). So no confidence it’s not going to happen again. Jan suggested I just “stand up there and watch it.” While a fine suggestion (who wouldn’t want to watch an HVAC unit produce condensate in a 99F attic), I opted to go another route.

I decided to temporarily redeploy one of my “security cameras” to “watch the pan” for signs of water.

BTW, this inexpensive HD (wired or WiFi, POE even) digital camera is the bomb. You can deploy the camera alone (and access images via a local web browser). Or if you are Steve, bend a home router to your will and access the camera(s) remotely. Even via a smartphone APP.

As I am an “IT guy”, I went the extra mile and installed a “camera server” (using an old PC) to which to spool video from my camera(s), for later playback, if need be.

    Weeeee. Technology.

Look at you geek out John! I’ve thought about cameras around our home, but more for critters than security.

And Lurker is right on the money Paulie. You need to practice your “game” so that when you’re in need of game, you have it.

The mower and I had a lovely ride around the Ben Hilton last night. The hot weather and sufficient rain make that yard look amazing when freshly cut. The mower is however still showing some attitude. I was able to start and load it, but when I went to unload it, nothing. I fiddle around and finally got it to start by fiddling with the battery connections (or so I thought). Cut the grass, never having to turn it off, loaded it back up. Turned it off, then wanted to pull it farther into the bed of the truck. Turn the key- nothing! WTF, O? I think the “dead man switch” in the seat is acting up.

And a screw up by the judges at the Tour of Utah!! Oops. They had to award the leaders jersey a second time after not correctly breaking the tie in the overall. I hate when that happens!!

      I’m still full from lunch!

Steve, these camera deals do IR, blah, blah, blah and can even be had with a microphone. For “$100”!

BTW: the server software (Milestone) is free up to a certain number of cameras. I’ll never have that many. And they do motion, etc, etc. And have an SD card slot if you don’t’ care to go the server route.

I’m not too sure why Paulie doesn’t have a few, around the ITP estate. EAV and all.

  3. Oh, I forgot to mention that at 9:30pm I was finally hungry again and ate a Reuben sandwich at Front Page News. At least I didn’t get any french fries…

  4. Might be time for me to step up my Swift learning. It would be the “smart” thing for me to prioritize currently.

Sorry- busy morning after taking the afternoon off yesterday.
got a few constructive things done.
Made spaghetti for dinner – I was hungry after just eating half of my sandwich.

Talk to strangers – it is a great way to practice small talk & never have to see them again if you feel like you said something dumb.

And- Allan was all annoyed last night, he got approved for some classes (to keep busy & of course learn something), and some chief decided he didn’t need 2 of the 3. They chatted about it, and after he had cancelled it – apologized for doing it – but – they are still cancelled. Can’t wait to hear what happens today.

Good thing I like pork chops. If i can’t play with the cool kids at lunch at least I got tootsie rolls!

I went to four high school football practices yesterday to take photos for an article. I had to scrape the testosterone off when I was done. Glad I’m female.

To pile on, showing interest in people whether they fit your bill or not is being courteous and open, both of which are attractive traits. Bonus, sometimes you hear interesting stories or make connections that may lead to good things.

Now that we once again have consistent internet at home, I can dial back on eating out for free WiFi. That’ll help my weight loss goal. But I may be typing this from the cafe. Old habits and all that.

FYI for a cocktail recommendation in your area: Foxtrot Liquor Bar. It’s fabulous.
