Speechless

Today I was going to make some lighthearted humor about a vote being cast and me not getting the job for which I had interviewed two weeks ago. I didn’t.

But yesterday more than half of America’s voters elected into the country’s highest political office a man with no prior political experience. I am flabbergasted. No, I am frightened.

This may be the last blog post that I write.

So it’s the lack of political experience that has you concerned? ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Amongst many other things… ๐Ÿ™

  3. Barb says:

I hopefully think that he is not as crazy as he seems to be – that this was all an elaborate act to get elected. I hope, really hope, that he will actually do an ok job. I don’t think it will be a good job, but I think (again hope) he is more liberal than he has come across – that he was just playing it up so he could get the votes. I’m probably wrong, but trying to be hopeful instead of depressed.
    Time will tell……….

Just goes to show all those pollsters don’t know shit.

  4. Hope you are right, Barb.

Think that I am going to shower, get dressed, and go see my doctor about the lump on my eyelid. At least I can focus on worrying about that for awhile.

I’m not sure quite what to think. Like Barb, I hope he’s not as crazy as he seems. I fear for the LGBT community, that the progress that has been made in the last few years could be swept away. Our place as a respected democracy in the world has surely been tarnished. As a friend posted of FB already, “since “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free” is now out, what should the Statue of Liberty say?”

But, as Debbie said, “The sun did come up today.”

I hear Belize is nice this time of year…

Experience tells me it’s above the cloud cover, but I have yet to actually see the sun.

And I am sure that my 6pm coffee had a hand, but I literally shivered with angst as I watched the returns. It wasn’t until around 2am that I finally calmed down enough to go to sleep. I am a white, heterosexual, middle class, American citizen; I can’t image what those who are not were/are thinking.

As an immigrant, I picked up the kids and we all huddled together in bed. I just wanted to hug them.

I have yet to venture onto social media very far. I know in this blogosphere, no matter your political bent, we are all thoughtful and respectful.

The world changed yesterday, and I’m trying to understand it. I’m not sure I can.

  9. Regardless of how you voted if I called you “friend” yesterday, I will call you “friend” today.

I understand that like begets like, so on my only other social media outlet (Twitter) my timeline has been slack jaw by what has transpired.

No joke, last night I looked into applying for dual-citizenship in Ireland (assuming I could drum up all of the necessary paperwork); sadly they are on their way out of the EU thanks to Brexit.

  10. Barb says:

TLS & Suzanne posted all kinds of stuff about jobs in New Zealand – how there are jobs to be had………. move there?

  11. steve says:

I’ve always wanted to see the Southern Cross. I’ve had friends go and ride bikes there and were ready to move there afterwards.

We were thinking more of Canada. Vancouver has a lot to offer and is close to my favorite ski mountain (Whistler).

  12. While my mother is still alive I would like to remain in the US. Otherwise I would have been applying for jobs in Germany already.

  13. Barb says:

Vancouver has snow……… I’m not sure how much, but I don’t want to live where it snows. I like to just visit.

What are the Canadian rules for bringing animals into their country?
I know Australia & New Zealand are very strict on bringing pets in.

  14. Steve says:

Sadly, I’m not sure Germany is in a much better state than we are at the moment. The rise of the anti-immigrant sentiment is strong there as well.

  15. Barb says:

and – something not politics –
Michelle Hackett will be here on Saturday – not sure what the plan is, but if anyone is bored & wants to see her – we are doing something. She’s staying at my house Saturday ngiht – flying out Sunday afternoon.

  16. More of me to love? Doc says bump on eyelid is scar tissue from swelling. She recommends leaving it alone, of if I must seeking the advice of an opthimologist or plastic surgeon รขโ‚ฌโ€œ both of which sound very expensive for a non-working citizen with shitty healthcare. DANGEN!

  17. Steve says:

Hillary won the popular vote. I’ll be Fcked.

Vancouver probably gets snow like Nashville= nothing you couldn’t live with. NPR reports the Canadian Immigration website has been down for hours.

We have opening hunt Saturday. I don’t think we’ll be heading to town after it’s over- I think they have a party that evening as well. I’d certainly love to see Michelle, but it won’t happen this trip.

  18. Barb says:

I thought they said this morning that Trump had won the popular vote -I guess as usual, the media had it wrong.

  19. Sitting at the Chamblee Public Library and ticket because the only power outlet I can get to is dead. Not my day…

  20. Stacy says:

Okay, we’re saddled with Trump now and on top of that you threaten to quit blogging?!?!?!

You’re a very mean man, Paulie.

    ๐Ÿ˜‰

  21. Steve says:

I knew he didn’t really mean that. At least I hoped he didn’t.

  22. I am considering it… I should probably have a cooling off period before I make my final decision.
