Current Status: Unemployed

Today is my first day of no longer being on sabbatical, instead I am actually unemployed. All these years I’ve just been shaking hands with the unemployed… (old and terrible joke)

Current Status: Pain And Suffering
Well it’s happened again, to borrow a line from Click and Clack. My body is back to full-on “I’m going to create painful spots on your body, worrisome and nagging inflammations, that are going to thwart all efforts to feel normal” mode. Think about the worst zit you’ve ever had, enlarge that by about twenty times, and then place that somewhere really inconvenient on your body — back of your leg or on your waistline, for example. That is what is happening to me currently, and has been happening periodically since I was about twenty years old.

Ah genetics…

Although I know that there are millions of people with worse health conditions than mine, sometimes it really sucks being me.

“Old School Bowling” (Raleigh, North Carolina, United States)

Old School Bowling
On Saturday afternoon I went bowling with Randy and the boys at an alley that has no automated scoring. From the looks of the lanes it’s been some time since they’ve maintained the lanes as well. Apparently it’s also been some time since I maintained my bowling skills as my scores were less-than-stellar.

Current Status: Trying To Overcome The Pain With Fun
Other than my pain I’ve been having a great time visiting the Raleigh Royalty.

On Saturday night we had Randy’s birthday party at Carolina Brewery, not to be confused with Carolina Brewing. A good time was had by all as we stood around drinking beer, eating pizza, and conversing.

Yesterday we all walked up for donuts, and later I joined Randy and the boys for a short trail bike ride (recall that I left my mountain bike here on my last trip) at a local trail. Try to guess who fell first, before even entering the park…

With no Packers game we were at a loss as to what to do with our Sunday afternoon. We walked from the house to near campus and attempted to eat at Mitch’s Tavern, only to find that Mitch’s doesn’t open until 5pm on Sundays. After walking around the corner and finding that Groucho’s Deli closes at 3 on Sundays, apparently we were in a Sunday dead-time zone, we wandered down to The Players’ Retreat (often referred to as “The PR” or just “PR”), a local favorite watering hole. While there we consumed a slew of appetizers and beer, and watched the Falcons put away the Panthers.

Current Status: Drinking Coffee
As the Royalty try to get ready for work and shuttle boys off to school I sit here blogging and drinking coffee.

Yo ho ho, the unemployment life for me!

Unlike the Braves I will be returning inside the perimeter. I will be doing so tomorrow however, as today’s agenda will be another day spent in North Carolina.

Have a great day friends!

Cheers,
Paulie [raleigh/nc]

Where does the weekend go? I know I’m wondering…

25 or so on my actual road bike Saturday. And to start, something I don’t ever recall doing- I snapped the nut off the presta valve on one of my wheels, making it necessary to swap the tube! Ugh. A trip to Lowes and grilling for Debbie’s Beginner Foxhunting class. Sadly, the practicle on Sunday was marred by one of the riders being kicked by another horse while mounted, breaking his leg! OUCH.

Sunday I was at Stone Mountain at 0800 for a bleacher moving party. We could have rocked it, had the recently purchased moving kit actually worked on the old bleachers. A little work from my master machinest and we will be able to move 2 at once when we go to load out in 2 weeks.

Something must be blooming that I’m alergic to as my nose is running- more annoying that anything. A Zertec pill knocked me out last night and has been hard to shake this morning.

For the life of me I don’t understand the allure of riding a horse. I suppose others will say the same about bicycles…

WEEKEND WAS BUSY, DECIDED EVEN WITH MY ACHING ARM, I NEEDED SOME EXCERCISE, SO aLLAN, jOaNNA & A BEAGLE WENT TO kENNESAW. ENDED UP ON THE CHEATHAM hill / Kolb Farm trail, its 6 miles.
such a nice day, we ended up drinking Margaritas on a patio, Sal came & joined us.
cooked a couple pizzas on the Egg that night, Sal needed to get out of the house again, so she learned about Publix pizza dough & using leftovers as pizza toppings

Sunday decided a 4 mile walk before a pedi was a good idea with Felicia, ruined the excercise with a stop at Tom & Chee for lunch after the pedi.
went to dinner in Roswell where Felicia has been staying, Paulie you’d have liked the neighbor that was there, he’s German, was all into German beers (im guessing Octoberfest beers), and has some job that deals with germans, as he had to not get drunk as he had an early conference call with some people in Germany.

Yea, I would have liked him, not that I could have conversed with him.

  5. Barb says:

HE SPOKE ENGLISH PERFECTLY, REALLY, HE SEEMED AMERICAN.

  6. Barb says:

oh yeah, i told him about your classes, he said Germany has so many dialects, he thinks it would be hARD TO LEARN THE LANGUAGE without being over there. you might learn something that totally doesnt work, depending where you are.

  7. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Yeah, I am learning what is known as “high German” which is the plain vanilla version of the language.
