I’ve packed my bags and am ready to go. Last night I referred to multiple weather forecasts, one for Winter Park and one for Denver. Not surprisingly the forecasted high temperatures for a town in the mountains is lower than that for a city that is a mile high — by a good 15°F. I think that I’ve packed correctly.
There should be blogs posted (week)daily while I am in Colorado, but like Germany, Iowa, and Vermont before it, I will be blogging via iPad so the posts may be short and not contain many links or photos.
Oh Chick-fil-A
After getting my hair cut yesterday afternoon I scurried to get to Colony Square from Ansley Mall with a mere twenty minutes to spare before the start of my final German B1.1 class. I figured that Chick-fil-A would be the best (read “quickest”) option, until that I discovered that at 6:10pm I was ten minutes too late because they close at 6:00pm.
My only other option for a quick meal was the Moe’s in Colony Square, perhaps the Moe’s I dislike the most. This Moe’s also closes early, so by the time I order the food it’s quite old (stale) with no hope of getting anything fresh. My burrito was as disappointing as I expected it to be.
German class was fun; wine was consumed, jokes were made, and most of us vowed to see each other again in a month’s time for the beginning of German B1.2.
There must have been some sort of concert/event in Piedmont Park (or perhaps at Atlanta Botanical Garden) because there was a very long line of cars trying to get out of the Colony Square parking garage around 9:30pm. Because of my extensive knowledge of the parking garage’s traffic pattern I was able to take a circuitous route and (legally) cut in line, getting ahead of at least ten cars. We all sat patiently, and then not so patiently, as the car at the head of the line either couldn’t, or refused to pay to get out. Ugh.

“Obligatory Stone Mountain Shot When Riding” (Stone Mountain, Georgia, United States)
I don’t take this shot every time, especially because I don’t ride the “outer” loop every time. However, when I am riding well and don’t mind taking a respite, I take this photo.
If I Wanted To Sell The ITP Estate Now I Think I Found An Interested Party
Yesterday afternoon I received a voicemail on my landline, one on my cellphone, as well as an email from the same person inquiring about purchasing the ITP Estate. In past years I’ve gotten the odd call, or slip of paper left in the mailbox, but never a three-pronged approach such as this.
Am I selling? Probably not as my life is in a big limbo currently and now is not the time to make uninformed, knee-jerk decisions. Besides who’s going to rent to a person that has no job? 😉
My Goals For The Next Week
In addition to having fun, I’m hoping to finish reading “Moonwalking With Einstein” as well as doing a single reading pass through “English Grammar For Students Of German”. With the prospect of a month without German class I am going to try and routinely study so that I don’t feel completely lost by the start of the next session.
That, drinking copious amounts of Colorado microbrews, and blogging.
Happy Humpday friends.
Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]
Not surprised CFA isn’t opened much later than 6, and that particular Moe’s has never impressed me. I much prefer the Willy’s at the park (when it isn’t filled with construction workers, like nowadays).
I got 20 miles in despite what my Endomondo said- he thought it was just 8 and oddly, I started it, it stopped quickly, then restarted randomly until the end of the ride- WTF, O? I felt strong last night- must have been that good ride on Sunday.
I hope the weather cooperates while y’all are in CO. I’ve been hearing a lot about hail from friends in COS. Apparently, when it rains, it’s coming down so hard and fast it’s coming down frozen! Not fun.
Happy end of August and happy start of Debbie’s birthday month!

I’m so ready to leave tomorrow!!!!!
Megan is finally back – and I’ve decided that no one seemed to care that I was severely over worked for a month – so when I get back, I’ve got a new attitude, if things don’t get done, they just don’t get done. And I will also be quietly looking for a new job. All the perks of living close & having lots of vacation are just not enough anymore. I’m really starting to hate some of the folks I work with. And, I hate to say it, but it is true- most younger people really do not give a damn about anyone besides themselves.
We will get into Winter Park fairly late Thursday, I’ll ping you when we have an ETA.
Ugh! Barb, I’m really sorry to hear that but I totally understand. It’s frustrating when it seems the harder you work, the more crap you get and that no one else seems to be busting their asses so wth?! Even at my job which I like, I have the same frustrations. Taking over accounts from folks that had them for years with problems they never bothered to fix. It’s hard not to develop an attitude of: well, if they didn’t care, why should I?
Heading to Tennessee tomorrow for my colleague’s funeral and decided to take PTO Friday and spend the night there to have some fun in Chattanooga. I was thrown a little shade for that: the “approved time off” was for tomorrow only. To which I say: um….SO? I have PTO, I’m not asking it off for free. And I really don’t feel like driving 4 hours, doing a service for 3, driving 4 hours back in one day. I’m too old for that crap.
Have fun in Colorado, you Colorado-goers. Kinda sounds like we all need to get away for a bit. 🙂
So they gave you the option of going to the funeral and have a problem with you taking another day on your own dime? On a holiday weekend?? Nuts.
Right? I could be over-reacting, but I had the sense they were making it like I was taking advantage of the situation to make an extra long holiday weekend or something. Because OTHERS are coming back to the office on Friday or had been approved for the long weekend BEFORE this all happened. *eye roll* I even offered to work on the road even taking PTO but now screw that. PTO is PTO.
I’m with you Stacy- yes- take Friday off, even if you have to use PTO. Maybe they thought you wanted another “free” day? I used to give people the benefit of the doubt, but not really anymore.
I was pulling out all these long sleeved shirts last night, I don’t know why it made me so happy to pack warmer clothes, but damn it- it did!!!
Michelle even said in Fort Collins it is plenty warm during th day, but nights are chilly. So, I don’t think I’m over packing. Probably too many pairs of shorts, but not done with packing, so I can change my mind many times still tonight.
Still need to figure out hash clothes – that’s the hardest part. What t-shirts with what sayings, etc.
I never feel appropriately packed. I’ll find out while I am there.
And I forgot to say please give Mr and Mrs Eunuch and Easy our best.
yes- I’m very excited we are supposed to all get together on Tuesday out there.
Will do.
a co-worker from CA says the best toffee in the world is from Enstroms – so Paulie- if you see some in Denver – get some! We can see how fullof shit she is.
At the airport drinking Sam Adams in Concourse B.
Barb, will attempt to buy toffee today. I see there is a bus from Fraser to Winter Park so I think that I will bus to Fraser (details in tomorrow’s blog). Let me know when you get into Winter Park.
hey- any interest in mtn biking out htere? we are looking into the rental prices. At the mtn its crazy, but there are some shops in Frasier that are more reasonable. Drew & Michelle are bringing hte bikes. Might be something fun to do Friday.
Probably well out of my league.
we won’t do anything tough, we will do trails sort of like what we do here. (just no climbing for the most part, take the lift up) and you are in way better shape than we are.
Just think about it
and- if the weather is crappy, we may do a little roadtrip to Hot Sulphur Springs to check out the springs. Shappens also wants to do a train pub crawl to Granby one day. Not sure about that yet.
Will keep all options open…
