Now how could I have possible used that title in the past eleven years? Unbelievable!
I went out for a 26-mile bike ride after work yesterday. One thing I miss about the warm mornings on which I used to ride last year was the lack of wind. Geez, I pedaled hard at points just to keep from being knocked over by the wind yesterday. I also pedaled hard, and very slowly, as I took was an unadvised detour from my route. Deep into the second half of the ride I took the detour that led me up the steep climb that I did last Wednesday. About 2/3rds into this climb I had the “brilliant” idea to take a side street in hopes that this would be a flatter route. Instead the side street took me downhill, and then after a left-hand turn I found myself climbing longer, steeper hills than the ones with which I had just struggled. I did it! (at an average speed of 5mph). I’m old. I’m fat. It’s been a long time since I did any hill training. But motherf’cker I did it! (and may never do it again)
One other gripe I have about this ride is that over the winter the DOT installed a new stop sign on Mount Paran Road. The new stop sign is incredibly frustrating because it’s at a three-way intersection and is at one of the few places where a cyclist can open up, and take the entire lane by keeping up with traffic. Now, if there are cars ahead I’ll have to stop too, removing all of the momentum built up going down hill. DANGEN!
About halfway through my ride I realized that I was wearing my holy tights, the shorts that have a huge hole in one of the inner thighs. Oops. I had relegated these tights to only be worn at home on the trainer, I guess that it’d been so long since I rode the trainer that I forgot that the tights hanging in my bathroom were those. Thankfully they held up and there is no embarrassing story to report.
My journey last night took about two hours to complete so by the time I got home it was about 8:45pm. I managed to fry up three eggs with some cheddar cheese for dinner, and washed them down with a large glass of milk. Not exactly “health food” but I was tired, needed to eat immediately, and it was much cheaper than stopping for food on the way home.
Being as tired as I was around 10:00pm I expected to sleep like a baby the entire night. Wrong! I awoke around 2:30am sweating, was awake for a least an hour after that, and finally returned to sleep for a few more hours.
The Return Of German Classes
By now I should know how to type that in German without using a reference. I cannot, because I have not been studying enough. DANGEN!
I am registered for my next exam in April 23rd, I need to make studying German vocabulary and grammar a daily practice between now and then.
But first, I better get some work done.
Cheers,
Paulie [eat/ga]
Wait….the city making the streets less biker-friendly? Whooda thunk? 😉
I’m sure there’s justification for slowing cars down, making the road “safer”, yadda, yadda, yadda, but it stinks for me.
Yeah, that wouldn’t be the DOT but your favorite CoA! 26 miles is 26 miles. Good for you.
Just some grass cutting last night so we could get in and out of the house. I was still whipped from the weekend so it was an early night. I completely forgot about the Final 4 game.
Today, the urologist gets a 6 month follow up visit. Oh. Boy.

I received notification that the latest issue of Peloton magazine is available for me to download. Somewhat ironically this issues is “The Climbing Issue”; I’m sure they are writing about climbs much tougher than the ones that nearly took me out last night. LOL!
Glad you got a bike ride in – we just went out for dinner with the in-laws for Allan’s birthday (a couple days late).
TJ said you did a pretty good job this weekend Steve…… LOL
I think tomorrow night for our anniversary we will go to a wine tasting that my friend Leslie is hosting in Roswell (the address is Alpharetta, but its on Holcomb Bridge, so I’ll call it Roswell)
