Welcome back to Paulie’s Bite-Sized Blog.
Good Time At The Old Ball Game
On Sunday I joined some work friends and attended the Clemson v. Georgia Tech baseball game. My boss is a Clemson grad, and the other coworkers who went are Georgia Tech grads. I wore my University of Florida hat, of course, just to be a royal pain in the ass.
The weather was fantastic. The contest was evenly-matched, won by Georgia Tech in the bottom of the tenth inning. And the post-game beers at Cypress Street were cheap, delicious, and overly-plentiful.
All plans to either mow the lawn or wash the car on Sunday were destroyed by the latter.
Monday, Boring Monday
I woke up, worked hard, put out my scheduled software build, watched Mad Men on my iPad, went to sleep. My Monday in one sentence.
German Class Tonight
Building on the frustrations and lessons of last Friday’s Deutsches Frühstück (German Breakfast) I will be attending the third course in my “A1.4” series. Last Friday I also found out that I am not as far along as I thought I was in the German learning series; “A1.4” is the final course in the “A1” series, but not the “A” series so instead of graduating to “B1.1” next session I will be attending “A2.1”. I realize that this is only a semantic difference, but knowing that a “C” level series exists I realized just how far away I am from it. I suppose that it doesn’t matter because German language learning will be something I do for the rest of my breathing days.
Going To The Doctor Is Another
Looks like I am finally going to have to surrender and see the doctor about the “poison ivy” that I think I have on my leg and that has caused my scalp to act as a snow globe these past two weeks. I thought that I could let my body fight it off naturally, but naturally I was wrong about this.
Wee’s Little Bits
See what I did there?!?!? It’s amazing I’ve never titled a section with this yet!
On my drive into work yesterday I saw a beat-up car with a donut-spare-tire driving on the east side of 285; the temporary tag on the back of the car read “Test Drive”. I had my doubts.
On this morning’s drive I saw a Team Novo Nordisk van driving north on 400.
I’m thinking of pitching a film idea for a guy who has struggled to lose weight his entire life (basically my life story); it will be called “Desperately Seeking Losing”.
Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]
Did you ever watch Amazing Race?
I can’t believe so many blind date couples are still in it.
I’m busy with I don’t know what these days.
Last night I went out for a walk to look at a house I saw up for sale for a friend, its a total fixer upper, built in the 60s, only 1 owner. Ended up wandering the neighborhoods a little more, found another one that she might actually like, I’m pretty sure its had some updates done.
Breaststroke talked me into taking home some of the left over pork bbq from Prom, so I made them into a pan of chili verde enchiladas last night. Since I had no recipe, I’ll let you know later this week if they are any good.
Yes, I caught up over the weekend. I’m a little surprised but the only pair still acting as a “couple” is the blonde gal, tall guy couple.
An interesting side note: A tech columnist who has routinely praised TAR said that he quit after this season’s second episode because of the dating aspect.
I think they wanted more “fighting” and/or maybe a love connection or two. I do find Hayley the most obnoxious contestant in a long time, Blair will have no problem finding a date after everyone has seen how patient he is with that crazy chick. AND, they are the only couple I know their names – because she is so annoying.
I thought the whole season of TAR was “blind dates”?
There was mowing, and more mowing, after I disconnected the auger (PHD). Dinner of steak and sweet potatoes.
I actually brought clothes in and will be running at lunch in a few moments.
I thought I had cleaverly scheduled some late work for Thursday that would allow me to join you at Monday Night Brewing, but the work has been moved. $hit.

I think I have talked a co-worker into coming with me Thursday night, she needs to get out & meet new people.
I just wish they hadn’t called in “Blind Dates.”
The concept, without such a stupid label, could have been intriguing. As in: is it easier to do this sort of thing with someone close or with a perfect stranger? Calling it a blind date was just stupid. They also never went into why each of them were picked for each other. (What? Just because they were two blonde gays? Or both worked in the medical industry? That’s the ONLY reason?)
Other than that, I’ve enjoyed the season and am STILL surprised the truckers are still there.
Bummer, Steve! 🙁 Well, here’s hoping it gets moved again and Plan A is back on. But yay for your colleague, Barb! The more the merrier. 🙂
FINALLY booked my Portland plane tickets. We fly out 8/29, returning on a red eye Labor Day night 9/7.
Now I’m going to have to try to plan the actual trip. Gotta figure out where to go, where to stay from 8/29 thru 9/3.
Still have yet to book mine. Too much indecision in my life currently.
