I can’t wait for the stores to open today so I can scoop up all of the MLK Jr merchandise that will be on clearance for 50-75% off! I hope Target still has some “I have a dream!” pillowcases in stock… 🙂
There were two highlights during my MLK Jr Day, the first of which was the dreamy non-existent traffic on my commute in (though I did encounter gridlock on the downtown connector on my way home), the second was going out for a walk in the beautiful weather.
That’s right, I actually got a little bit of exercise yesterday afternoon. The boss and I went for a 3.2 mile walk yesterday afternoon. I wish that I could say that I will repeat the effort today, but with German class tonight there will be no such effort put forth.
As an added bonus we did not ruin it by going out to a bar afterward! Instead I drove home (and hit that traffic I mentioned above) and made myself dinner. My dinner was a deconstructed meatball sub — I didn’t have a roll so I cut up some bread into crouton-sized chunks and toasted the along with some meatballs, topped this with a small can of stewed tomatoes, and sprinkled parmesan cheese on top of it all. It was seriously tasty but if I ever do this again I should remember to drain some of the liquid from the canned tomatoes because toward the end of the dish things got a bit soggy. With my dinner I treated myself to one beer.
Netflix Binge Watching
During the holidays I drained my supply of podcasts, so when I was looking for entertainment last night (and I was not in the mood to read) I returned to binge watching The Mind of a Chef, a PBS series that first aired in 2012. Netflix has the first two (of three) seasons available and I am now halfway through the first season.
The best way I can describe “The Mind of a Chef” is that it’s like watching an Anthony Bourdain series — “A Cooks Tour”, “No Reservations”, “The Layover”, “Parts Unknown” — that doesn’t star him, though he does perform the voiceovers.
As an added bonus I’m finally once again putting my $8/month Netflix subscription to use.
It’s 2015 And We Still Can’t Predict The Weather More Than 24 Hours Out
When I woke yesterday and checked the ten-day weather forecast it was nothing but sunny days with a chance of rain next Monday. The story changed considerably when I checked the ten-day weather forecast this morning; now it appears we have a 90% chance of rain on Friday, an 80% chance of rain on Saturday, and potential snow flurries next Monday.
What?
Of course I’m not going to fret over this because I know that the forecast will chance at least twice more before the end of this week.
Bike Rack Shopping Tomorrow
Tomorrow I want to purchase the bike rack that I will use with the yet-to-be-installed hitch receiver I bought for the M6 (the name I will be using for this car until it earns a real nickname). Because I have had success with Yakima in the past I will probably stick with them, making my purchase at REI if possible.
Previously I mentioned purchasing the Ridgeback 2, but ITP-Reader Barb mentioned getting a different model. If you have more feedback on which Yakima model you own/like, keeping in mind that the hitch receiver I purchased for the M6 is 1 1/4″, please leave a comment.
Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]
the Holdup (of course one of the most expensive ones they sell) is what we have. It is so easy to use.
I haven’t even looked at the weather forecast for Vero Beach, I guess I ought to do that.
The Subaru (with no name, I’ve never named a car, so I don’t plan to start now) is getting an oil change today, to get ready for the roadtrip. Best part of this is a Jason’s Deli next door, so I don’t have to wait in their waiting room, I can go grab lunch.
TJ & Mary came over for dinner, we had a fun discussion on the debaucle of the CX Nationals in Austin.
Even with the increased price I’m leaning toward getting the Holdup.
Related: I now have components for a Yakima roof rack that I will gladly give to any ITP Reader that wants them. ITP-Reader Steve, one of the trays rightfully still belongs to you, so if you would like it back I will gladly keep it aside and return it to you.
I’d love to hear TJ’s version of the story- I’m sure it has it’s own unique spin, considering his love of the Feds.
And yes, I’d take back the bike tray whenever it is convenient.
We have home buyer news!! The “you have a lovely home” agent called back yesterday and the potential buyers want a second look today! These folks are from out of town- or that was the rumor, so maybe the wheels will start to turn quickly. Scary considering we don’t have a farm to go to… !!!
Stay tuned.

I need to be a weatherman, where else can you be wrong most of the time and still have a job?
Beautiful day yesterday and I was off with the half of Atlanta that had the day off. Played some tennis with Travis and went mtn biking in the afternoon. So nice to be outside in shorts and t-shirt again, I know our winters are mild but I still can’t wait for spring.
Barb, I would love to hear TJ’s take on the CX fiasco!
That Yakima holdup does look like a good option.
the t-shirt that is going around -something like “Even Disappointment is bigger in Texas – CX Nationals Austin, 2015”
Boom BOOM!
