Your task today, if you choose to attempt it, is to count the number of cairns in this photo (click on the photo in order to go to a larger version):
“Cairn-O-Rama” (Black Mountain, NC, US)
This photo was taken using my iPhone’s Panorama mode. In reality these cairns make a near semi-circle around the point on which I stood. I wish there were a way for me to recapture the curvature of the actual scene.
I think that this image would make a difficult, yet entertaining jigsaw puzzle.
If that task proves to be too easy, attempt to count the total number of rocks that make up all of these cairns.
Why such nonsense? Because I am super-busy again today.
Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]
Wow, what a week and weekend! Except for 2 inches of rain on Tuesday, the weather could not have been better. The crowd on Saturday was probably a record and Sunday even surpassed last year, which was a better day than normal
because of the crappy weather on Saturday. Burt (my co-chair) and I did not try to kill one another and only had to have a chat with one under performing/over drinking volunteer. I’m still not sure how to fire a volunteer, but I think he got the memo. As the weekend went on, I was trying to take notes on where to make changes/corrections and we had a good debrief with some of the core staff after it was all in the box on Monday. Of course, thee was good food and good whisky, old friends and new, and a whole lot of fun.
The other news from the week- the USAC Technical Director was fired. This is a guy we (officials and NTC) worked very closely with and he has had problems with Steve Johnson for a while. He had told us that Colorado law says it isn’t a
retribution firing after 6 months… guess when 6 months was after their little dust up? Yep, October 15, they fired him on the 16th. Sadly, Micah Rice (Former Jittery Joes DS, National Events Director and Shawn’s boss) took credit for the firing, but we all know who really pulled the trigger. F’ers. I will really be examining whether I want to continue as an official- that’s how
bad it is…
I’m planning on coming out to the Grant Park CX on Sunday- no racing (sorry Bob), so maybe I can see some of you.

I’m double-booked on Sunday (because I failed to put things into my calendar). If I remember correctly the races start early (10am?) and I’ll need to boogie over to Midway at noon to settle my Packers/Jets bet with ITP-Reader Stacy.
first- I’m not counting, I’m not htat bored today.
Steve – I’ll have to ask TJ for his take on that firing. Of course, he won’t work for them anymore, as you well know.
I’m single all weekend! Allan is working for someone this Saturday so they will work for him next Saturday, so we can go camping without using a vacation day. Maybe I’ll come into town on Sunday?
That would definitely be a good puzzle.
Looks like you will miss my race Paulie, I race at 1. Should be fun, lots of people come to this one as it is so close.
Steve we will get you to race one of these days 🙂
Bob, I rode for 45 minutes yesterday and I could really feel it! Taking 2 weeks off wasn’t the best idea.
Ack! Sorry Bob. This is why I need to be better about putting things into my calendar.
Yay! Everyone should boogie over to Midway Sunday (so, yes, Barb – you too). 🙂 The Falcons game is on at 9:30am (since they’re broadcasting from London) and then the Man-U Chelsea game at 12 noon.
There’s a pretty good chance I will make it to the CX race at Grant Park on Sunday, depending on other factors. I’ll look out for you all.
well, if I might have a sighting of the ever popular Jenka & also Stacy, I might just have to come ITP on Sunday. I have friends going to the game in London, and wasn’t thinking about it being on at 9:30am.
Hmm, maybe I should go to Midway early to watch Falcons and the first half of the other football, and then go to Grant Park…
