Another lousy day in paradise…
I had to work just long enough to not be able to make it down to Little 5 Points in time for the start of the show at Dad’s Garage, another paid-for wasted. Making the matter more frustrating was the fact that it was not my code that was in error, but rather an IT configuration in Europe. It looks as if my demo today will be okay, but missing one of the big bells-and-whistles because of this.
I decided to eat some chicken tenders at Taco Mac because the ones my friend ordered on Wednesday night looked so good. Naturally the Va-Hi location was jam-packed, so I walked back to my car and drove to Decatur — only to find no parking at the Decatur location as well.
I quickly gave up on my dreams of chicken tenders so I decided to head to Twain’s because I always enjoy their food and beer, and knew I could watch some football there — only to find that they are wrapping up a four-day renovation and were closed.
I will not lie, I was feeling defeated.
Next stop on my comedy of errors was East Atlanta.
With no parking to be found near The Midway Pub, and after I scraped the shit out of the bottom of the Jackmobile on one of the most insidious speed humps I have ever seen, I found street parking and decided to eat dinner at a surprisingly-empty The Elder Tree Public House. I perused the menu for a long time because nothing really jumped out at me and finally decided on a bowl of Irish stew and some loaded fries — only to find out that there was no chili made so I shouldn’t order the fries. I finally changed my order to a sandwich and a wedge salad and by the time I was done with my second beer it was time for me to go home and wallow in my misery.
I was asleep by 10pm, falling asleep in bed while watching this week’s “Top Chef Duels” on my iPad.
I hope that my weekend goes better. I plan to “beat traffic” today to ensure that my ticket for tonight’s performance of “The Savannah Disputation” at Theatrical Outfit does not get squandered. I also hope that I see some of you Monday morning at the church for a little Silk Sheets riding.

Uh oh, I just saw that Atlanta Cycling is having a Labor Day Metric Century on Monday at Silk Sheets.
And – you are going downtown tonight? Its gonna be crazy with people, good luck with that.
Should we change the bike ride venue for monday?
Sounds like you had a rough week Paulie, hopefully that bike ride will smooth things out for you.
I’m going in to town tonight for the critical mass ride, right in the middle of DragonCon, should be fun as hell!
Coming back in to town tomorrow morning for the parade, Paulie you should come out for photos. I’m sure there will be some interesting sights to see.
Have a good ride on Monday, we have a neighborhood pool party so anything I do has to be done super early. I may do a 7AM blankets ride, not sure what I will be able to get in.
2 major rides on the same roads within 2 days? I know SS is lovely riding, but that’s just crazy. I vote for a change of venue. Debbie is booked, so I’m on my own.
I was hoping for a good game last night between the Cocks and the Aggies. The annoying guy from AToC/my roommate at Rock Hill is an Aggie grad, so I was either going to congratulate him or taunt him (much more preferable). Since I didn’t think the Cocks were on their game, nothing will be said.
Debbie is off riding- I just happened to pop out of bed at 9:30 and asked her what time she was meeting her friends to ride- 10:00… ummm, you know what time it is?? She dressed, ate, located and loaded Phinney and should be on his back maybe just a few minutes late. Sheesh.
I’ll be passing on the MACC century tomorrow. I would have done the metric, but even that seems a little daunting at the moment. But in the meantime, I’m off to ride…

Yeah, I might take Marta tonight or perhaps use my “local’s knowledge” of downtown to avoid crowds.
Looks like a lot of rain forecast for tomorrow, I’ll play the parade/photography by ear. Which reminds me that last year I met Miss K and her hubby downtown for the parade. Seems like forever ago now.
I can travel anywhere to ride Monday.
Back from 30 hot miles… Saturday, I thought I had just blown a shift when it jumped out of gear, but today, I dropped the chain off the chainrings 3 times and the rear kept jumping around. Haven’t looked at it yet, but it may need some Allan TLC.
What about the Bud plant on Monday? We could meet at the Garage Mahal and carpool/caravan.
Arabia Mtn trail? start out I-20 near Stonecrest Mall in Lithonia – goes all the way to the Monestary in Conyers. If you do the whole entire trail, its close to 40 miles.
Its a PATH foundation trail, all paved but all off the road.
We are off to Ellijay for the holiday weekend. This is the first time I’ve missed the Decatur Book Festival since I moved here. It’s just not the same since my ex moved to California (he was a librarian at Emory, for those of you who don’t know; now he’s at Berkeley).
Martha, take note: I will be house sitting at Kendall and Maura’s next Thursday-Wed. There will be Spoon and/or other places happening. Not sure when or if Kevin will be staying, too. You have been warned.
That sounds good Barb. Is the trailhead off Klondike? Been a long time since I’ve ridden out that way. 0900?
I’ve in the past parked at the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Center on Klondike (in Lithonia, not Conyers, trust me when you use your gps, it makes a big difference). It seems a safe enough place to leave the cars.
Or- another place I’d like to try parking is at the Panola Shoals parking lot. A little scenery there with the shoals, but that parking lot isn’t as busy, so not sure about the safety of the cars.
Can we go with 09:30 to get rolling? John & Kat may join us too.
