Live From East Atlanta

I’m working today, from my home office in East Atlanta. Ice won’t stop this blog.

Today’s Daily Challenge
Plan to rinse your fruits and veggies in a pan of water rather than hold them under the tap.

When we wash produce under the tap, only a fraction of the water hits the fruit or veggie. The rest goes right down the drain, wasted. By using a pot or pan instead, you contribute to water conservation, which helps our environment. Bonus: Saving water also means you’ll save money.

Huh.

Good Work, Undone
After leaving the office last night I flew down to Brookhaven (making every green light along the way!) to go to LA Fitness. Upon entering the building about 4:45pm I noticed that they planned to close for the evening at 6:00pm. Huh. I jumped onto a stationary bike and set the timer for 45 minutes to allow myself time to shower before closing. To my relief during my ride the club announced that their plans had changed and they were staying open until 8:00pm.

With a ride and shower completed I sought means for ruining it all. I found such an outlet at THERE where I consumed a couple of beers with a completely unhealthy dinner.

Dinner was interesting. My boss and I sat at a corner of the bar having conversations that apparently were overheard by one of the nearby patrons. You can imagine what two men talk about, can’t you? During our time at the bar we also met the owner, who sat and ate what looked like a fantastic steak.

I was pooped by the time I arrived home (no later than 9pm) and promptly fell asleep on the couch.

Canceled, Canceled, And Canceled
Last night’s iOS Developers Meetup was canceled.
Tonight’s performance of “In Love And Warcraft” that I was supposed to attend has been canceled.
Tomorrow night’s Cocoaheads Atlanta meet up has already been canceled.

It’s not that I don’t have plenty of work and entertainment to keep me occupied during the blank spaces created by these cancelations, but they really have turned my week upside down.

Today’s Personal Project
Not risk going out in this cold if I can help it. I have candles for warmth and light in case of a power outage and devices with cellular access in case of internet outage.

Sort my laundry in case I can make it to the lavanderia tomorrow night.

I’m home again as well. Village Fitness is open, I made it there early with no problems.

I made the last minute decision to run to WalMart to see if they had any propane left for my camp stove, since the house is totally electric, I can at least heat up some food if we lose power. I grabbed four, I don’t remember if you have a gas stove but if you need propane let me know.

So far it just looks like sleet, no freezing rain (at least here, I’m getting reports from further north that say freezing rain)…fingers crossed we only get sleet/snow.

My only goal for the day is to try and get the dogs outside…they took one look and got back in bed…slackers.

I’m attempting to work from home, Travis has no school and Laura is home from work so not sure how much will get done. I may just pack it up and go sledding with Travis instead.

This ice crap needs to hurry and melt, I have a camping trip this weekend to prepare for 🙂

speaking of camping, Barb and I have booked sites at the High Falls state park in Jackson on the weekend of 3/21-3/23 if anybody cares to join. We are also planning on riding the Dauset mtn bike trails on Saturday and maybe Sunday as well if anybody wants to do a day trip.

The power has blinked off a couple times, enough to freak out the access point upstairs, and cause my work laptop to get completely confused. Lot’s of rain, most freezing, Debbie reports the smell of broken pine boughs outside.

As long as we have power, I think everything will be OK. There is firewood ready to go in case Icepocolypse really hits hard. The tractor and chainsaw have been tested and fueled, so I guess we’re ready.

    Stay warm friends.

  4. So far, so good here in the ‘hood. I have a propane stove and propane in case of emergency and could always hike up to the village if the power stays on and feel the need to be around others.

I still have a noon conference call to dial into later.

The one thing I really should make an effort to do today (other than shower, which I’ve yet to do) is get some exercise.

We lost power for about 30 minutes, bundled up and took Travis sledding. Great times! Now back home with some hot cocoa.

  6. Barb says:

Since I’m not at my usual desk, I’m all confused & forgot to check in.
No ice on the trees that I can see, I’m just working here while Allan watches TV in the other room.
Thinking about making a beer cheese bacon chicken soup, the only thing I don’t have is half & half. I’m thinking 2% milk will work. Or, I wonder if Kroger is open?

Its lunch time – I’m wondering if we should wander up to Waffle House & see if they are open?

  7. Barb says:

decided to make some bacon, chicken beer cheese soup for dinner – put it in the crock pot to simmer all afternoon………

  8. Nice. I’m still poking around on my computer trying to make this app for work work.

I cooked up some pasta and sauce for lunch. Will probably scare up some dinner here at the house later on tonight.

  9. Barb says:

Sarah just posted on FB she has a tree on her house.
That totally sucks. Wish we were closer to be able to help.

  10. Ouch, that is bad luck. Not that I prevented such a thing from happening here by any means, but I am glad that I had all of the tree limbs trimmed back a few months ago.
