It ends today, but for nearly two weeks it’s been Pizzamas. Pizzamas is a made up holiday created by the Green brothers — Hank and John — during which they sell merchandise and donate 100% of the profit to Partners in Health. I have been looking at the t-shirts, some of which I find to be cool, but unfortunately don’t need any more t-shirts in my life and can’t justify spending $29 + s/h for one.

Once again I talked myself out of cycling; thanks to my pain and all that hullabaloo. Instead, I hobbled up to the East Atlanta Farmers Market and purchased a loaf of bread and a small bag of apples. Sadly neither of the two farm stands which were selling vegetables had any carrots, potatoes, or cauliflower which I sought.

Perhaps it’s because one of my “hobbies” is to pick up litter, but as I contemplate the amount of trash created by the savage storms of last week I get sad. How much of it will be retrieved from nature? Where the fuck is it all going to go? How much more damage to the environment will we cause by replacing all of the things lost to the storms and flooding?

It appears that I should have paid attention to sports last night. The Mets scored four runs in the ninth inning to win 4-2, thus moving on in the playoffs. The Falcons beat the Buccaneers in overtime. Meh, my life is still the same…

  1. Is today National Good Buddy Day? 10-4.

    Wordle in 2!!

Not much to report from on the farm. After the chiro yesterday, I filled the Mazda’s tank for 2.65 a gallon!! Crude prices are going up, so expect to pay a bit more due to the unrest in the middle east. I decided to strike while I could.

Still haven’t heard from an old teammate and his wife who live in Brasstown, NC. There house is on top of a mountain, so flooding wasn’t an issue, and they were west of the worst of it, but still a little worried.

    • Damn, thought I’d take the title of Wordle Champ today.

Kemp eliminated (temporarily) gas taxes, hence the lower price.

      • Barb says:

Port strike has been stopped, at least until January. Got lots of pay concessions – still need to hash out the automation stuff.
Everyone can stop buying toilet paper now (even though, they are idiots, most toilet paper is made her in the USA)

A cute connections today- even the purple used the letter D!

    • Jenka says:

I did Connections today based on your comment, and it was so cute! I never in a million years would’ve gotten blue.

      • Barb says:

I only got Blue (3rd row) because I figured they went together – but did not know if I’d be right

  4. Jenka says:

I picked up Pollo Primo last night and went over to my bestie Sarah’s to watch the Falcons plays the Bucs on Thursday Night Football. I went home at halftime so I missed the exciting end, but at least the Falcons won in the end.

No Finn this weekend and I am going to sleep so much.

    • It’s been a bit since I’ve gotten food from Pollo Primo. Loved the food, a bit pricey for my current lifestyle. How is their chicken these days?

    • Steve says:

Still no idea about the cabin?

      • Barb says:

Ellijay didn’t get very hard at all – JoAnna said her cabin is just fine.

      • Jenka says:

I haven’t been up there. But I had a load of firewood delivered and stacked yesterday and the dude didn’t say anything along the lines of, “hey, there’s a tree on your roof” so I think it’s probably all good.

  5. Back from a litter pickup / coffee walk. Too much litter, not enough coffee. Also, hip pain.

  6. Barb says:

Last night I did something I’d never thought I’d do – watched a high school homecoming parade. Kristina had to go pickup Libby from Wheeler, but we misunderstood & thought the parade was over at 6:00 or. so. Well – it didn’t even start until 6:30. We walked over, as it is only a little over a mile or so to Wheeler.
So – we watched it. Got a lot of candy thrown at us, of course it was all over the ground, so that was our trash pickup – well – as much as we could carry as we had no bag. Then we watched the marching band perform 2 songs on the football field, eventually getting back to Kristina’s house at almost dark.
Decided to go to the Delkwood for late dinner – they are closing forever right before Thanksgiving. Talked to 1 of the owners – she said the landlord wanted to raise the rent 100% (from $10,000 to $20,000 a month). They decided after 36 years – it was time to move on to something new.

Getting ready for Eggtoberfest tomorrow – hate that it isn’t at Stone Mtn anymore – we have to go to Coolray Field up in Gwinnett.

    • Wow, didn’t know about Delkwood, not that I’ve eaten there much. Sucks for them, but they appear to have a good attitude.

    • Bob says:

I really hate that landlords do that shit, jack up the rent just because they can. So now instead of getting more rent they get no rent. I hope nobody moves in to that space and the landlord loses a ton of money because of it. Way too many great small businesses fold because of asshole landlords like that.

      • Barb says:

I also found out the landlord owns the liquor store next door – that was interesting. I never go to that store, & now I for sure never will.
The girl (damn, I can not think of her name) & her siblings (that all run the place) all have small children, so they are sad, but looking forward to spending more time with their kids.

  7. If I die of poison in a couple of years, remember today, the day I absentmindedly added three poisonous mushrooms to one of my compost bins thinking the organic matter would be beneficial.

    • I am going to assume that the poison will be diluted, and perhaps negated, by the time that this compost will be used in WLF. Or, perhaps I will decide to use this compost for a future flower bed instead.

  8. Bob says:

Great ramble last night, I tried to talk myself out of going and really happy that I was unsuccessful. Benny’s son Hunter even joined us and sponsored a beer stop at his house. Good times!

Looking forward to the weekend, taking the motorcycle out on Sunday for a shake down ride.

  9. Bob says:

Oh yeah Barb, good thing the Wheelhopper campout is next weekend as the GCA (formerly NICA) mountain bike race is at Dauset this weekend.

    • Barb says:

well – trail is actually NOT at Dauset, but very near there.
So, you can ride Dauset on Friday evening or Sunday (or -do a LONG ride on Saturday)
I guess Deaner will be in Bentonville, so we will be on our own.
I guess I ought to get the Event sent out.

  10. Trying to decide whether or not I want to book a non-refundable hotel room for next Tuesday evening. I am 99% sure that I will be able to start Mom’s Last Road Trip on Tuesday, but at this point I never am 100% sure of anything…

    • Steve says:

Where and how much will you actually save over rack rate? I think I lost $100 on the way to Richmond on the scooter last summer, when I bailed on the dark and the getting really bad weather. A good call safety wise, but flushing $100 sucked.

  11. David says:

Last night my daughter and I had tickets to see James at The Eastern, and some guy nameed Johnny Marr. I had no idea until 5 minutes before the show when I looked him up that he was the lead guitarist and co-founder of THE SMITHS! What an absolutely fucking incredible show. Johnny Marr is aging extremely well, he turns 61 on Halloween this year. And an really nice guy, truly a class act. He played a ton of Smiths songs, and closed with Iggy Pop’s The Passenger. We worked our way down to the stage, and were on the second row of standees behind the rail.

Tonight I’ll be watching the Kennesaw State Owls play Jacksonville State from the comforts of a suite. That ticket fell out of the sky this week.

Also, last weekend I took my son to get his permit at the DMV in Conyers. I walked in with all of my paperwork in order, and as soon as they gave me my number, it was called and I walked right up to the window. I repeated that feat today at the Fulton County tag office, the tag for my daughter’s car never showed up in the mail, and again today, as soon as I got my number, they called it and I was at the window. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket.

    • Steve says:

I think so! And not online, but somewhere you have to walk up to a window!!

    • Somewhat surprised you didn’t know who Johnny Marr is. He was also a member of Modest Mouse for a short while.

I really wish I could have seen The Hold Steady at The EARL last night. They play tonight and tomorrow night at Variety Playhouse. Unfortunately I don’t think that my hip will permit attending either.

      • David says:

For me, Morrissey always sucked all of the air out of the room when it came to The Smiths. I never geeked out hard enough on 80s bands to know many band members, but wow, what a concert for the ages last night was.

    • Barb says:

who is James? (I know, I could look it up, but was thinking did you forget a 1st or last name?)
