Hey, it’s raining!

Yesterday I decided that I wanted to get back into listening to music, both live and recorded. It’s been too long. I’ve let tv, books, and podcasts distract me, but now is the time!

This morning I am either on my trainer, or have completed my trainer session by the time you read this. I’m also trying to return to a life of exercise, you know since I have few time commitments, in an effort to slim back down to my 2020-2022 weight. The best I could do yesterday was an hour walk to pick up little, but hey, I also picked up litter. I’m weighing (no pun intended) the pros and cons of taking my bicycle and/or trainer on my trip north in a few weeks.

Looking forward to tonight’s TC birthday dinner for ITP-Reader Debbie.

Wordle: three, my starter was STAIN
Connections: perfect, Blue > Green > Purple > Yellow

  1. Haven’t mounted the trainer (yet?). I have made a batch of hot sauce using peppers that I picked from WLF before the rain arrive yesterday. My first attempt at hot water canning is turning out to be a failure, however. After the prescribed amount of time in the water bath per the recipe, the lids have not sucked down as if a vacuum seal has formed. This can’t be good for long term storage…

    Wordle in 2!!

4 inches of rain yesterday (4.2 actually) and it wasn’t even the hurricane yet!! We were glad to get it. Hopefully, the next bout will quickly pass by.

Debbie is convinced this storm will have us in the dark for an extended period. She filled the water containers (no power, no water) and started cooking. Meatloaf last night and tortilla soup for the weekend. I’ll be moving the Toyota truck and my little Mazda out from their tree sheltered parking spots to along the driveway. There’s fuel for the chainsaw with a freshly sharpened chain. Bring it!

Happy birthday to my lovely bride. Debbie, you make the ride enjoyable. I love you.

  3. Steve says:

    Conniptions, FAIL.

  4. Steve says:

Debbie is worried about the weather (see above) and kindly requests that we meet at 6PM this evening.

    • Barb says:

6pm works for us- & the drive for us won’t be treacherous.
Allan is off to Ansley Atlanta Cycling to build bikes today – so he will get to see how the roads are later.
If y’all decide the weather is awful enough to cancel – next week is fine too.

  5. Jenka says:

Good morning! Emory declared that everything is remote today and tomorrow, so I’m working from home in my pajamas! Had to cancel our CBO interview this morning and re-scheduling it will be my first priority. Barb, to answer your question from yesterday, each one is a series of interviews with different people. The candidate comes to Candler, and over 4-5 hours meets with our senior leadership, meets with the CBOs from a couple of other academic units at Emory, meets with staff, etc. I schedule the whole thing and participate in one of the sessions.

You all might think about re-scheduling your TC outing, just a thought. Making food, freezing water, and charging all devices over here all day.

    • Barb says:

we have 2 generators – so even if we have to lend one to the in-laws – our refrigerator & freezers will be ok.

Davey is cracking me up on the Door Dashing – people are expecting deliveries in this lovely weather & not over tipping…….. so rude.

    • I guess I lived in Florida for too long. I know we can lose power easily, especially since the ground is saturated and there will be high wind, but I’m not overly concerned. I understand that I could be very wrong however…

    • Steve says:

The thought has crossed my mind, but no need to make that call now. I’ll be watching the weather all day (I’m sure I’ll be the only one!) so will message as needed later.

I actually think the storm has slowed a bit from their predicted speed. And I noticed a little eastern wobble on the last video loop, which really was just a wobble.

      • Jenka says:

Yeah, the Emory experts have downgraded us from “hurricane watch” to “tropical storm watch,” so you might be right. But all this shit changes by the hour.

  6. WLF has caught a little less than 3.5” to this point. Water barrels are nearing capacity, however.

    • Barb says:

my weather app on my phone says Marietta’s had 2.4 inches.
Ground seems to be accepting all the water fine so far.

  7. Sally says:

Got my run in this morning. It actually felt good. All my devices are fully charged so we’ll see. I don’t need power for water so I’m good there. :). I have all my camping equipment. If I need a cold beer, I’ll just walk over the Barb and Allan’s. We are closing at 3 today. I need to stop by Cobb County Water lab this afternoon and update my water testing kit. If the weather is really bad, it can wait. I just hope all my trees can withstand the winds since my neighbor cut down all his trees….there’s nothing to buffer mine.

    Wordle in 4 starting with STORM. Connections: X, B, P, Y, G. Easy Strands.

  8. Sally says:

And for the cheese lovers, the world’s oldest cheese has been discovered in Xinjiang, China. A mix of cow and goat cheese dating back 3,600 years.

  9. Just saw a CBS Morning video about the owner/chef of Bomb Biscuit in Atlanta being voted Best New Chef by Food & Wine magazine. Guess I missed my opportunity to eat there, because I don’t wait in line to pay for food.

  10. Thirty minutes on the trainer. Uninspired, aching, bored. Will try again some day.

    • Steve says:

Are you watching something like a GCN video? I watched one of their interval videos last night and it was pretty good- at least kept me focused. I need to see if the old laptop can still play “Sufferfest”!

  11. Bob says:

SO MUCH RAIN!! I’m sort of worried about what will happen when the winds show up tomorrow. I’ll sharpen the chainsaw just in case.

Bowling last night was terrible! I failed to hit my average in all 3 games. Not sure what happened, I just could not pull it together. There is an odd number of teams in our league so we didn’t have an opposing team and our 4th guy didn’t show up. We were done by 8PM which is crazy fast.

Looking forward to seeing you all tonight! Soccer practice was cancelled so we will have Travis with us.

    • Bummer about your bowling.

I think a lot of places are using this to make a long weekend. The High Museum will be closed tomorrow. By all accounts that I see the worst of it will be done before they would open their doors. Oh well.

  12. Steve says:

Debbie has decided it would be irresponsible for us to try and make TC happen tonight. While I’m certainly willing, she may be right. I’d love to see all of you, but perhaps another evening? Saturday, perhaps??

    • Barb says:

it’s just raining softly here – but I know that could change at any minute.

Saturday is open for us – or whenever works for y’all.

      • Steve says:

It’s just a light rain here, but she is concerned about flooded roads. This storm has her very concerned, so Saturday would be lovely if that works out.

        • Jenka says:

It’s currently a light rain but it will get worse as the storm nears landfall, which will happen at 7:00 pm while you all are enjoying your hot and numbing beef. Anyway, I killed my last car when the engine got aqualocked when I drove through a deep puddle, so now I have crazy paranoia about driving in heavy rain.

    • Okay, it’s her birthday so I will give her a pass. 🙂

Saturday is out for me. Enjoy your dinner.
