Don’t read too much into this, but I’m starting to think about my legacy. On Tuesday I had the brilliant idea to collect some acorns from my oak tree and see how many I could germinate and grow into trees. The trees I grow could either be donated to Trees Atlanta (from whom I bought the source over twenty years ago, or ninja planted in places that hopefully don’t get mown). One problem arose when I launched this plan yesterday morning, this is not a mast year for acorns and I could only find three! I have sown these three acorns, but I don’t expect them to germinate. I thought about doing the same for the pecan tree, but the nuts are so high up only the squirrels benefit from them, and those that fall to the ground are too damaged to plant.

Four the past three years I’ve contemplated moving away. I keep looking for land on which I can have a smaller house and larger garden. Truth be told I don’t think I have the impetus to start again at nearly sixty.

I’ve found an affordable place to stay near Asheville in late October for the weekend I am considering taking one-day classes on cheesemaking and fermentation. The only hitch is that the Friday night before this weekend I have a ticket for the Bob Mould show at The EARL, so I’d have to wake very early and drive to Arden, NC in order to get there ahead of the class’s starting time of 12:00pm. I’m starting to think it’s too much to cram into my schedule.

Today I take a metaphorical couple of grains of sand from the beach that is my cluttered life by taking a small load of items to CHaRM. I’m hoping that this is the impetus to start my Fall Cleaning initiative, chipping away at the things which currently annoy me.

I have plenty of little oak trees that pop up constantly in my flower beds. You are more than welcome to have them as I pull them out. :). Can’t wait for WLF to get a cow and then start making its own cheese.

Another season of Survivor started last night. Looking forward to Survivor nights at Barb and Allan’s.

Nothing new here. Hope Barb’s family all arrived safely and Travis continues to feel better.

    • Two? Bravo!

What is ironic is that all summer I have been pulling tree seedlings because I don’t want them where they are coming up. I have unsuccessfully tried and failed at transplanting oak and pecan seedlings. I think it’s because no matter how hard I try, I destroy the tap root? You’d probably know.

I’m certain that our journey through the country’s and orchards of Belgium and Netherlands has rekindled my desire.

Chickens would have to come first. 😉 I have started reading books about cheese making, and bread making as well. The former requires more equipment, space, raw milk, and sanitary practices, none of which are common inside the ITP Estate. 🙁

Not sure if I’m jumping on the Survivor bandwagon again for this season. I have a feeling my chaotic travel life will continue into early next year.

      • There is another irony that through banging on my deck, and crunching under foot I see the other oak tree is producing acorns. However all branches are far too high, and the acorns that reach the ground are partially eaten.

    Wordle in 3.

We have hickory nuts out the… I hesitate walking to the man cave in the dark as I’m liable to step on one a twist my ankle. And don’t start getting all “the end is near”. You have many more good years left on the clock. You kid, you!!

I managed a tough half hour on the trainer with a GCN climbing video. I don’t normally feel those sessions the next day, but I’m feeling that one.

Debbie is heading off tomorrow for a girls weekend at Niagara Falls, so I’m available for any shenanigans anyone might be up to. A bike ride, perhaps?

I’m doing the Beautiful Backroads ride on Saturday in Cartersville.

      • Kind of wish I’d signed up for Beautiful Backroads. Not sure why I didn’t. Perhaps I confused the date with the Wilson 100? Oh well, can’t do it now because I will be picking up my new shiny. Hope that you have a great ride!

…and probably the century, you over-achiever you!! Have a great time.

    • I told you not to read too much into it. At 59 I am realizing that this journey has an end, and I want to start doing little things which will lessen my impact on this planet, as well as provide a something for those that inhabit it after I do. That’s all.

I’m booked Saturday, it’s new iPhone day!

Good morning! A very busy day at work today. Last night we went to Fellini’s because I am addicted to their crust. It is so tasty and crunchy. Hilariously, David texted me that he was at the other Fellini’s at the same time!

My dear friend Sarah is in Berlin right now, and it is amusing to watch her location as she perambulates the city. She is right now on a boat tour going down the Spree river.

    • Steve says:

      You’re tracking her? That’s a little stalker-ish, isn’t it?

      • Jenka says:

One day a couple of years ago she shared her location with me just for fun. She does that with her whole family and all of her friends. Often when we’re having dinner she’ll say something like “my niece said she was going to Ft. Lauderdale this weekend” and whip out her phone and confirm it. I don’t care about it very often, but it’s fun to take a peek when she’s traveling!

      • I shared my location with Barb in Europe— until she left. 😉

    • Barb says:

      Pizza…… that sounds good.
Maybe we will order pizza for everyone tonight. Hmmmmmm

Connie & family got in, we went to HyVee to get a few things, they have a Wahlburgers connected to it. It was National Cheeseburger Day yesterday, so got a combo for $5. Not a bad burger (& tots) for $5.

Cable tech is coming this morning, TV keeps freezing & pixelating. But of course it is not doing it right now.

  4. Back from CHaRM, I’m sure they wonder why I bother since I bring so little.

I then walked up to EAV to buy a coffee at EAV Cafe, my coffee place of choice, and worked up a sweat in the process.

  5. David says:

“Truth be told I don’t think I have the impetus to start again at nearly sixty.” If not now, then when? You sure as hell aren’t going to suddenly find it one day when you’re older than you are now.

I am truly grateful that I hit the eject button on my previous life as a homeowner. I’m still a bit in flux until October 9 when I get to move into my apartment near the BeltLine. I’m also a bit in flux until this goddamned divorce gets settled, but I’m getting there. I was married for 30 years when I realized that the NEXT 30 years need to be way different than the LAST 30 years. My high school friend Debra made as similar change this year, she and her husband sold their condo in Knoxville and moved to Minneapolis of all places. They are now living their best lives.

If you don’t change something, anything about your life (to riff on one of my favorite Todd Rundgren albums), then you’ll keep repeating the same cycle (and bitching about it) until the bitter end. As the saying goes, fortune favors the bold. I am definitely experiencing that, and so is my friend.

    So, just food for thought.

Separately, it was fun to unwittingly have a dueling Fellini’s night with Jenka. It was truly a coin toss as to whether my son and I would have landed at Ponce or Cander Park, they’re both about the same distance from his mother’s place.
